Frances Carver
Frances Marie Carver, 75, Lawson, Mo., died Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Ms. Carver was born Aug. 4, 1934, in Kansas City, the daughter of Benjamin and Ruby Crumley Carver. She worked as a caregiver, helping many people in need. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sibling. Survivors include three brothers, Jerry Carver, Kenneth Carver and Leonard Carver; and two sisters, Barbara Gibbs and Marjorie McElwee. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence. A private family viewing was held. Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
*Carol Malseed
Carol K. Malseed, 80, of 829 N. Market Street, Duncannon, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, July 11, 2010, in her home. Born March 26, 1930 in Cincinnati , Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James Martin Kuyper and Jeanne Busching Kuyper. Carol was a Christian and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Duncannon, where she was active in Sunday school and church activities. She was also a Brownie leader in Troop 494. She was a Registered Nurse and a graduate of Christ Hospital of Nursing, Cincinnati, and served as a nurse (Lt JG) in the United States Navy. She practiced locally in Community General Osteopathic Hospital and Polyclinic Hospital, both in Harrisburg, Pa., and Miami-Dade Hospital in Miami , Fla. She is survived by her daughters and their families, Chris Hill, husband Jeffrey A. and son, Thomas J., all of Wormleysburg, Pa.; Nancy Dennis and husband, George, daughter, Kelly L. McCullough, busband Whit and their daughters, Molly K. and Ashton E., all of Ashburn, Va.; Becky Malseed and Ed Paumer of Halifax, Pa., and Becky's son, Zachery H. Malseed, of Duncannon; granddaughter, Abbey Jeane Liddick and fianceé, David Dudley, of Duncannon; grandson, Jacob Liddick of Duncannon; son-in-law, Mark Liddick of Long Neck, Del.; sister, Joy Paulter of Palm City, Fla.; nephew, Robert E. Malseed Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Duncannon. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Liddick; two brothers, James and Jay; and a sister, Claire Kuyper. Services with military honors were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15, at Christ Lutheran Church in Duncannon, with the Rev. David Schreffler officiating. Friends were invited to call at the church one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 115 Church St ., Duncannon , PA 17020 .
Larry Lockamy
Larry Harmon Lockamy, 61, of Lawson, Mo., passed away Thursday July 22, 2010, at his home. Mr. Lockamy was born July 28, 1948, in Kansas City, the son of Cecil August and Mable Louise (West) Lockamy. He was married to JoAnn Crede on July 31, 1981; she survives. He was a lifelong resident of the Lawson community. He was in the printing trade, having worked for Jefferson Smurfit, which later became Altivity Packaging in North Kansas City, retiring in 2006 as printing manager. He was preceded in death by his father on August 4, 1986; and an infant son, Jay Travis Lockamy, in January 1973. In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Louise Lockamy, Lawson; seven children, Kelly Evola, Excelsior Springs, John Greathouse, Excelsior Springs, Sheila Moore, Boonville, Phil Greathouse, Lawson, Jeff Lockamy, San Antonio, Texas, Tom Greathouse, Excelsior Springs, and Jason Lockamy, Lathrop; one sister, Patricia Jungling, Lawson; 22 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Burial in Lawson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Hospital Hospice.
Eva Howell
Eva Marie Howell, 78, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Howell was born Aug. 21, 1931, in Brockwell, Ark., the daughter of Oscar Elbert and Sudie Jane (Morgan) Melton. She was married to Glenn Ray Hughes in March 1949; he preceded her in death in September 1982. She was married to Vernon Louis Howell on March 9, 1983; he survives. She moved to Missouri at the age of 16, then worked at various employments following her marriage. After moving to Excelsior Springs, she was employed as manager of the Monterey Motel, night manager at Colony Plaza in the mid-1970s and later as manager of John’s Car Wash, from which she retired in 1983. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Excelsior Springs. Following the death of her son, she started the Douglas Hughes Wrestling Scholarship at Excelsior Springs High School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Douglas Hughes, in 1993 and David Hughes, in 2009; two brothers, Virgil Melton and Orgal Melton; two sisters, Lois Banning and Willeen Wyatt; and a grandson, Jeffrey Hughes, in 1975. In addition to her husband, survivors include two stepsons, James Howell, Excelsior Springs, and Dennis Howell, Merriam, Kan.; one brother, Gerald Melton, Lawson; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a special adopted granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Burial in Old Union Cemetery, near Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to Midwest Transplant Network.
Carl Martin
Carl Henry Martin, 83, California, Mo., died Saturday, June 19, 2010, at St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City, Mo. Mr. Martin was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Moniteau County, the son of Roy and Edith Jobe Martin. He was married to Ellen Messerli in 1948; she survives of the home. He worked for 30 years as a basketball coach and teacher of math and science at schools in Duenweg, Excelsior Springs, Raytown and Jefferson City. After retirement, he farmed and raised cattle in Moniteau County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett Martin, Robert Martin and Ralph Martin; and three sisters, Ethel Thomas, Ruby Martin and an infant sister. Survivors include his sister, La Homa Singleton, California State; Kelly and Carlene Messerli; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. His body, at his request, has been given to medical science. Arrangements were through Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services in California, Mo.
“Gene” Rone
Ivan Eugene “Gene” Rone, 70, Orrick, Mo., died Friday, July 23, 2010. Gene was born Jan. 28, 1940, in Orrick, the son of Samuel F. and Luci (Creason) Rone. He was a loving husband to Anna for 28 years. He was preceded in death by Anna; a daughter, Kathy; and a son, Scott. He is survived by his daughters, Carol Rone, Judith Campbell and husband, Charlie, Rita, Linda and husband, Mike, and Phyllis and husband, Ron; sons, Bud and wife, Debbie, and William and wife, Jan; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Graveside services were scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Zimmerman Cemetery in Polo. Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
*Lorene Short
Lorene Short, 99, died Monday, July 26, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitaiton will be one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Excelsior Springs Presbyterian church or Good Shepherd Hospice. Ms. Short was born Oct. 11, 1910, to Laura and Jess Southwick, Collins, Mo. She graduated from Lawson High School, living most of her life in Ray and Clay counties. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Virginia; a brother, Murl; her husband, Lloyd Short, in 1972; and a grandson, David Eldridge, in 1993. Lorene is survived by three children: son Jerry Short, wife Jackie; daughters, Jo Ann Eldridge, husband Bob; and Hazel Livingston, husband Gene; eight grandchildren: Jeff Short, wife Kathia; Juree Short; Janelle Martinovich, husband Andy; Jennifer Pederson, husband Mark; Jim Eldridge; Larry Daniels, wife Marsha; Leslie Coleman, husband Scott; Becca Lee, husband Godfrey; 17 great-grandchildren: Jamie, Rachel, Kasey Short; Audreauna Short; Emily, Matthew Eldridge; Nicholas Mack, Savanah, Malina, Remy Martinovich; Tanner, Maggie, Carly Daniels; Hansen, Elizabeth, Peter, Forrest Coleman; and Evan Lee; and many nieces and nephews. Lorene’s family was her joy and delight. She loved to travel, play pitch and work crossword puzzles. Mom always made her own decisions: she decided when to sell the farm after Dad died, she arranged putting her home in town up for sale, she knew when to move out of the upstairs apartment in Excelsior to an assisted-care facility in Kearney, she told us when to dispose of her car and when she needed to go to a nursing home, and finally she tried to tell us when she was through with hospitals and she meant it. The family is grateful to the caregivers at Excelsior Springs Nursing & Rehab for their tender care. Lorene was a loving person with a ready smile and will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Robert Moll
Robert Walter Moll, 89, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Veterans Home in Warrensburg, Mo. Mr. Moll was born on Feb. 2, 1921, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Walter and Edith (Fager) Moll. He was married to Florence (Proper) Moll, who preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 1999. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a switchman for Southwestern Bell for more than 32 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Jackson and Cleora O’Dell. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Moll, Richmond; one son, Gary Moll, Jefferson City; two grandsons, Troy Stigall and Marc Stigall; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond, with Masonic services beginning at 6 p.m. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 30, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery Mausoleum in Topeka, Kan., with burial being in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Walter Moll Memorial Fund, to go toward displaying his military honors.
