Millard Adams
Millard Franklin Adams, 82, Richmond, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Ray County Hospital in Richmond. Mr. Adams was born Oct. 2, 1927, in Ray County, the son of Ray and Temple (Lozier) Adams. He was married to Dorothy J. Kelly on Aug. 25, 1950; she survives, of the home. He was a member of the Richmond Christian Union Church. He was special deputy sheriff under Sheriff J.R. Stockton and worked at the Richmond Fire Department. He also served as county road commissioner. He worked at Lake City Arsenal for 15 years before retiring. He and his wife were manager of Richmond Rest Haven in the 1950s. He had lived most of his life in Ray County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce Alan Adams and Randy Dean Adams; one daughter, Pamela Jean Adams; one sister in infancy, Laura Nell Adams; and one brother, Charles Adams. In addition to his wife, survivors include one sister, Mary Reynolds, Gladstone; two granddaughters, Stacy Bales, of the home, and Samantha Parkhurst, Kansas City; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at the Richmond United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Knoxville Cemetery at Knoxville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond, with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Millard F. Lashawnda Barker
Lashawnda Jean Barker, 31, Richmond, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond. Mrs. Barker was born Dec. 13, 1977, in Kansas City, the daughter of Donald Gene and Reta Louise (King) Richardson. She was married to Shane Allen Barker on Aug. 4, 2008; he survives. She had worked for Ray County Community Services. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. In addition to her husband, survivors include four children, Kelly Carter, Makayla Carter, Ryan Carter and Bryan Carter, all of the home; four stepchildren, Shane Barker,Jr., Caydence Barker, Jade Barker and Michael Barker, all of Richmond; her mother and stepfather, Roy and Reta Richardson Swigart, Rayville; and two brothers, Ronald King and Donald King, both of Richmond. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery at Knoxville, MO. Sherryl Beach
Sherryl Lynn Beach, 56, Holt, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009. Mrs. Beach was born Sept. 16, 1953, in Kansas City, the daughter of Russell and Mildred (Gray) Miller. She worked for Hy-Vee in Liberty for 15 years. Survivors include her husband, Jim; four children, Deanna Harper, Jennifer Lansdale, Jacob Lansdale and Meagann Abernathy; seven stepchildren, Zelpha Rodgers, Johnnie Beach, Jason Beach, Jeremy Beach, Josh Beach, Leva Taylor and Crista Taylor; three brothers, David Miller, Larry Miller and Tim Miller; and 19 grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 27, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty. Interment will be in Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty. Beverly Benedict
Beverly Sue Benedict, 71, Lawson, Mo., passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at Liberty Terrace in Liberty, Mo. Mrs. Benedict was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Jackson County, the daughter of Galen and Martha Virginia (Wilson) Williams. She was married to Eugene Allen Benedict on May 18, 1957; he survives. She was employed by Armco Steel for 29 years before retiring in 2000, and she was also a homemaker. She attended Old Union Christian Union Church near Lawson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Richard Benedict, on Oct. 26, 1997; and one brother, Gary Williams. In addition to her husband, survivors include four children, Darry Benedict, Liberty, Scott Benedict, Lee’s Summit, Dawn Housh, Raytown, and Kurt Benedict, Lawson; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Old Union Christian Union Church near Lawson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Lawson.
Kenna Bradley
Kenna Lee Bradley, 13, Lawson, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Kenna was born Feb. 6, 1996, in Wyandotte County, Kan. She was in the eighth grade at Lawson Middle School. She was very athletic, playing softball (including for the Tipton Tigers), basketball, and volleyball. She was a true fighter. She did not pass away due to leukemia--It was due to a lung infection. Survivors include her parents, Rhonda and Coe Bradley, of the home; grandparents, Richard and Tammy Anthony, Grandview, and Pete and Pam McCracken, Lawson; two sisters, Sammie, Tonganoxie, Kan., and Afton, of the home; two brothers, Collin and Carson, both of the home; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Mellon's Community Center in Lawson. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at the Community Center. Burial will be in Lawson Cemetery. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kenna Bradley Memorial Fund, which will be used to establish the KB Strong Scholarship, which will be given in Kenna's memory.
“Ray” Brand
A. “Ray” Brand, 85, Raytown, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at his home. Mr. Brand was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Cameron. He was the owner of Brand Brothers and Linenbrink & Brand Construction. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavoureen. Survivors include two sons, Mark Brand, Kansas City, Kan., and Roger Brand, Raytown; one daughter, Debbie Shouse, Michigan; one brother, James Brand, Kearney; one sister, Gertrude Blasé, Kearney; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Heartland Cremation & Burial Society in Raytown; burial in Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield.
David Brassfield
David Charles Brassfield, 47, Gladstone, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009. Mr. Brassfield was born Jan. 22, 1962, in Little Rock, Ark. He worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years. He was an active member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty, Mo. He was preceded in death by his father, Harrison W. Brassfield. Survivors include two sons, Sean Brassfield and Robert Brassfield; his mother, Wilma I. Brassfield; brothers, Don Brassfield and Allen Brassfield; and two sisters, Thelma Brassfield and Anna Marie Brassfield-Foster. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty; burial will follow in Prairie Ridge Cemetery in Polo. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice House.
Ruth Campbell
Ruth M. Campbell, 86, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 N.E. Antioch Rd., Gladstone. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home.
Gene Clevenger
Marvin Eugene “Gene” Clevenger, 84, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Mr. Clevenger was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Orrick, the son of George William and Jessie Margaret (Woods) Clevenger. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946, he worked as a carpenter, doing mill work for American Sash and Door and later for Paxton Lumber Company, both of Kansas City, before retiring in 1990. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Audrey Grass and Kaye Hosford. Survivors include three sons, David Clevenger, Ron Clevenger and Tim Clevenger, all of Excelsior Springs; one daughter, Cathy Minton, Excelsior Springs; one brother, Clarence Clevenger, Brunswick, Ga.; one sister, Carol Cazzell, Excelsior Springs; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home.
Eva Coldren
Eva M. Coldren, 73, Kearney, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009. Services were set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at Arley United Methodist Church in Kearney, with visitation during the preceding hour. Interment in Arley Cemetery in Kearney. Arrangements are through Bailey & Cox Family Funeral Service in Plattsburg. William Cunningham
William Delton “Bill” Cunningham, 84, Warrensburg, Mo. (formerly of Richmond, Mo., and Corder, Mo.), died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at the Missouri State Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., following a lengthy illness. Mr. Cunningham was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Morris, Okla., the son of William Edgar and Lydia (McGriff) Cunningham. He was married to Clara Pearl Bledsoe on Sept. 20, 1950; she preceded him in death Nov. 13, 1999. Mr. Cunningham was a World War II Army veteran. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Ann Roe on Dec. 13, 2003, and Mary Elizabeth Ratliff on Oct. 25, 2009. Survivors include three daughters, Lydia Pearl Sheridan, Higginsville, Billie Jean Poncy, Knob Noster, and Gladys Lucille Bernstein, Higginsville; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. David Dietrich
David Eugene Dietrich, 43, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 25, 2009, at his home. Mr. Dietrich was born Jan. 22, 1966, in Emporia, Kan., the son of Walter Eugene and Cynthia Holbrook (Ramsdell) Dietrich. He was married to Sandra Cole Quimby on Oct. 22, 1988; she survives. He had done factory and construction work for most of his life, and for the past 11 years he and Sandra owned and operated Dietrich’s Detail Home Repair in Excelsior Springs. He was a member of Crescent Lake Christian Center. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. In addition to his wife, survivors include his parents, of Admire, Kan.; two sisters, Melanie Deshon, Cornelius, Ga., and Margot Hunsaker of Prattville, Ala.; one brother, Carl Dietrich, Omaha, Neb.; nephews and a niece. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Crescent Lake Christian Center, with visitation following. Burial will be at a later date in Polley Cemetery. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
“Bun” Dodd
Lloyd Fred “Bun” Dodd, 53, Liberty, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at First Baptist Church of Liberty. Services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Monday, also at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Liberty. Arrangements are through Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty.
Arthur Domerese
Arthur Dean Domerese, 77, Branson, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009. Mr. Domerese was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Harmony, Ark. He owned Domerese and Son Construction. Survivors include his wife, Peggy; one son, Robert; two daughters, Tammie Russell and Laurie Domerese; three brothers; one sister; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home in Branson; burial in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery in Branson.
Rev. Helen Domerese
Rev. Helen Elizabeth Domerese, 82, Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009. The Rev. Domerese was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Marissa, Ill., the daughter of Earl and Beulah Calvert. She was a homemaker and former evangelist. She was an active member of First Pentecostal Church in Parkville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Hoyt Domerese; grandson, Mitchell D. Domerese; and siblings, Earl Calvert Jr., Billy G. Calvert, Ruth Ann Calvert and Donald Ray Calvert. Survivors include her children, Dale, Larry, Darrel, Rev. Richard, Rev. Steve, Regina, Rev. Ronald and Debi Domerese; brothers, Danny Calvert and Rev. Ronald Calvert; sister, Regina Rogers; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Dec. 23, at First Pentecostal Church in Parkville. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.
Virginia Downs
Virginia Elizabeth Downs, 80, Richmond, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at her home. Ms. Downs was born Feb. 6, 1929, in Independence, the daughter of John R. and Mamie (Rich) Stillwell. She was married to James Robert “Bob” Downs on Dec. 31, 1946, secretly, and officially on April 18, 1947. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Downs, on Jan. 26, 1985; one brother, Jack Stillwell; and one daughter, Pat Good. Survivors include her children, James Michael Downs, Cameron, Deborah Kay Good, Orrick, David Wayne Downs, Richmond, Gary Dean Downs, Lexington, Pamela Ann Misner, Cameron, William Robert Downs, Richmond, and Terri Denise Clark, Orrick; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Orrick Baptist Church. Interment in South Point Cemetery near Orrick. The family greeted friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Thomas Christopher Eales, 75, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Dec. 8, 2009, after a prolonged illness. Tom was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Lamar, Mo., to Harold V. and Erma (Wattenbarger) Eales. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and while stationed in England, met and married Sylvia Margaret McCarthy in St. Marks Church, London, England. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, J. Wade Morey. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher J. and Connie Eales and Bradley T. and Brenda Eales, four grandchildren, Misty D. Eales, J.T. Eales, Erin E. Eales and Kristin M. Eales and fiancé, Zac Ganzer; sister, Jule Ann Fryer, of the home; and many sisters-in law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Polley Funeral Home Excelsior Springs, Mo. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Private interment will be at a later date. *Andy Edwards Jr.
Andy McCuin Edwards Jr., 66, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2009. He graduated from Branson High, and was a Vietnam veteran. Andy was a man of men and lived his life the way he wanted. He left this world all too soon. Andy was the light of his family’s life and his wife’s true soul mate. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gretchen; daughter, Tricia; grandson, Carson; sisters, Margie Guffey, Mary Fox and Louise Pelham; and brother, Kenneth Edwards. Andy is preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Veda Edwards; brothers, Rex and David; and sister, Francis Taylor. Memorial services will be planned at a later date. “Lisa” Edwards
Elizabeth Jarrett “Lisa” (Kirwan) Edwards, 45, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009. Mrs. Edwards was born May 26, 1964, in Kansas City, the daughter of Kevin Kirwan and Claudia (Wolfing). She was married to J.D. Edwards II on May 31, 1986. Survivors include her children, Sarah Elizabeth Edwards and Jimmie Don Edwards III; her parents, Kevin Kirwan and Claudia Weishaar; her stepfather, Lyle Weishaar; her sister, Leslie (Kirwan) House, Carthage; her brothers, Patrick, St. Joseph, Michael, Leawood, Kan., and Sean, Lenexa, Kan.; stepsisters, Stephanie Weishaar, Blue Springs, and Denise Workman, Overland Park, Kan.; four nieces; and five nephews. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Pisgah Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, also at the church. Jean Egan
Jean Egan, 84, Independence, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009. Ms. Egan was born Jan. 15, 1925, in Clay County, the daughter of Marshall Adam and Edna (Smith) Pfeister. She worked for Montgomery Ward for 42 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Nebo Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius Egan Jr., on May 7, 1974; and two sisters, Faye Hubbard and Judy Barksdale. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Myrna Meads, Gary Hubbard, Barbara Bryant and Terry Hanks, all of Independence, and Chris Johnson, Leeton. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty. Services were set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at the funeral home. Catherine Gensler
Catherine A. Gensler, 57, Holt, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009. Mrs. Gensler was born Aug. 1, 1952, the daughter of Willie D. and Margery Waters Mick. Survivors include her husband, James Gensler; and two brothers, Ed Mick and Don Mick, both of Holt. Cremation, with private services at a later date. Frank Hays
Frank Woodward Hays, 83, Manhattan, Kan., died Saturday, Dec. 19, 209, at Stoneybrook Retirement Community Assisted Living in Manhattan. Mr. Hays was born April 21, 1926, in Kansas City, the son of James Andrew and Helen (Middleton) Hays. He had lived in Lawson, Mo., for many years, summering in Osage Beach, Mo., before he moved to Osage Beach full-time and then to Manhattan six months ago. He worked as a commercial and industrial electrician for Kansas City Electric and McCauley Electric. He was married to Beverly Jane Noland on Nov. 19, 1950. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Hays, of the home; two sons, M.E. Hannibal Hays, Manhattan, Kan., and Patrick Steven Hays, Kanas City, Mo.; one brother, James A. Hays Jr., Greenhaven, Ariz.; and three grandchildren. Cremation. Memorial services will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, at the Elks Lodge in Osage Beach. Joanne Hughes
Joanne Hughes, 68, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond; burial in Richmond Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
John Jackson
John A. Jackson, 53, Richmond, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009. Mr. Jackson was the son of Don and Jan (Hamacher) Jackson. He was a lifelong Richmond resident, and was the third-generation owner of Jackson’s Hardware Inc. in Richmond. He was married to Kathran Taylor in 1982. He was a member of Richmond United Methodist Church, and also served in a number of civic capacities. After he retired, he recorded public service announcements for Bott Radio Station in Richmond. He was preceded in death by his sister, Julie; and his father, Don. Survivors incclude his wife, Kathran; his mother, Jan; one brother, Jim Jackson, Warrensburg; one sister, Jane Jackson; and two children, Julie and Jay Jackson. Funeral services were set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Richmond United Methodist Church. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at the church. Burial in Sunny Slope Cemetery in Richmond. Arrangements are through Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Keith Worthington Chapter or to Pi Kappa Alpha, Zeta Chi Alumni Association for a scholarship fund.
Ronald Jones
Ronald Allison Jones, 85, Kansas City North, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009. Visitation was held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty, with a Rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service and burial will take place in Danbury, Iowa.
Joyce Kindred
Joyce Kindred, 66 Lathrop, Mo. (formerly of Lawson, Mo.), died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Clinton Care and Rehabilitation Center in Plattsburg, Mo. Mrs. Kindred was born May 20, 1943, in Kansas City, the daughter of Oliver and Lorene (Estes) Lockart. She was married to Bob Kindred, who survives of the home. She was a member of the Lawson United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker, but was also involved with a lot of volunteer work. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Eugene Lockart and Larry Dean Lockart; one sister, Janet Lockart; one grandson, Gary Scott Johnson; and one stepdaughter, Janice Faye Vick. In addition to her husband, Bob, survivors include two sons, Matthew Wayne Carver, Easton, and James William Carver, Lawson; one daughter, Jerri Lin Carver, Kearney; one brother, Gary Wayne Lockart, Eliot, Maine; four grandsons; three granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at Lawson United Methodist Church in Lawson. Burial will be in Lawson Cemetery. Margaret King
Margaret M. King, 86, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009. Ms. King was born May 29, 1923, in Lexington, the daughter of Clifford and Carrie Paus Ross. Thomas Earl Letchworth, 84, Weir, Kan., died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kan. Mr. Letchworth was born July 28, 1925, in Liberty, Mo., to Thomas A. and Anna (Dillon) Letchworth. He married Grace E. Brisbin on Feb. 1, 1957. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II from 1943 to 1946. He retired as a truck driver from Ideal Truck Lines, Kansas City, Mo., in 1986. He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Anna Mae Letchworth McGuines. Survivors include six sons, three stepchildren and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frances Jean Matney, 82, Excelsior Springs, Mo. died Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Valley Manor Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs. Ms. Matney was born Sept. 13, 1927, in LeGrand, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Fern (Hulsizer) Peterson. She was married to Ronald Matney on Feb. 18, 1945; he preceded her in death on April 6, 2002. She worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Greim; one son, Ronald E. Matney, Jr.; one brother, Bob Peterson; one sister, Shirley Allan; one grandson, Kenneth Jason Matney; and two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Dillon. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Lee Matney, Poplar Bluff, and Kennie Matney, Excelsior Springs; one brother, Fred Peterson, Marshalltown, Iowa; one sister, Betty Weaver, Marshalltown, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Melba Joyce McLendon, 75, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at the Excelsior Springs Hospital. Mrs. McLendon was born July 25, 1934, in Winnsboro, Texas, the daughter of Lewis Cecil and Truby Novell (Shoemaker) Clark. She was married to Elwyn Foy McLendon on April 4, 1953; he preceded her in death on April 14, 2000. She was reared in Winnsboro, then in 1970 she and her family moved from Dallas, Texas, to Excelsior Springs. She was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs . In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jackie Clark. Survivors include three children, Steve McLendon and Rick McClendon, both of Excelsior Springs, and Marsha Lombardo, Independence; one sister, Nancy Kirk, Gilmer, Texas; two brothers, Jerry Clark, Malvern, Ark., and Hodge Clark, Gilmer, Texas; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Helen Maxine Ranes, 95, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at Excelsior Springs Hospital. Mrs. Ranes was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Cincinnati, Iowa, the daughter of William Edwin and Dora Elizabeth (Daniels) St. John. She was married to Lloyd Lafayette Ranes on Sept. 27, 1934; he preceded her in death in February 1976. She was a homemaker. For several years Mr. and Mrs. Ranes lived at Sunrise Beach, Mo., then they moved to Excelsior Springs to make their home. She was a member of the Elmira Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Marlieta Coffman, Excelsior Springs; three sons, Lloyd Ranes, Vinita, Okla., and Garland Ranes and Randy Ranes, both of Kearney; one brother, Billy St. John, Excelsior Springs; one sister, Peggy Ballinger, Excelsior Springs; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Dwight S. "Sam" Reyburn, 74, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Capital Hospice in Arlington, Va., of a rare form of cancer. Mr. Reyburn was born on Oct. 5, 1935, in St. Louis, Mo., the eldest son of the late Sam and Suzanne Reyburn. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Apel Reyburn; his daughter, Kathryn Reyburn Roche and her husband, Philip, and two granddaughters, Miranda and Natalie Roche, all of Darien, Conn.; his brothers, Roger P. Reyburn and his wife, Elizabeth, Long Beach, Calif., Peter L. Reyburn and his wife, Patricia, Estero, Fla., and David W. Reyburn and his wife, Karen, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Frank J. Apel Jr., Mililani, Hawaii; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Sam grew up in Winston, Mo., attending elementary and high school there. His family, friends and teachers helped him develop the strong set of principles which guided him through his life. He became a member of the Winston Methodist Church and has had a long-lasting affiliation with the Winston chapter of the Masonic Lodge. He excelled in school, participated in many sports, and had leadership roles throughout his academic life and career. He graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia and did post-graduate studies at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. He became a career Army officer, specializing in military intelligence and linguistics. He attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif., on two year-long courses of study. Along with skill in Russian, he became fluent in the Romanian language and was appointed Assistant Military Attache in Bucharest, Romania. Other overseas assignments included Korea, two tours in Germany, Vietnam, and stateside duty in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas and Washington, D.C. He was a member of the staff at the Command and General Staff College in Leavenworth, Kan., and worked at the Defense Intelligence Agency and thereafter the Central Intelligence Agency following his retirement from the U.S. Army. He did related consulting work in more recent years. Sam will always be remembered for his quick smile, charisma, sense of humor, and dedication to the sport of golf. He found great inspiration in his more than 30 years as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. She was a a graduate of Excelsior Springs High School. She was a machine operator at a plastics plant and a member of Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was married to Harold Rimmer on Dec. 20, 1953. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Rimmer, in 1967; and her brother, Jewell Schoolfield. Frances Dolores Teegarden-Hufford, formerly of Vibbard, Roosterville and Liberty, Mo., passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at her home in Kansas City, Mo. Frances was born in Excelsior Springs, Mo., on March 10, 1937, to John McKinley Teegarden and Pauline Strode. She married Wilbur Hufford on April 24, 1981, in Liberty, Mo. She was involved in the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary, Post 4043. Frances enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, cooking and taking care of her family and her “Huffie.” She also loved singing, writing songs and poems and taking care of others. She loved making baby quilts for her great-grandchildren. Frances is preceded in death by her parents, John McKinley Teegarden and Pauline Strode; husband, Robert “Bud” Stevenson; daughters, Connie Marie Morrison and Susan Irene Kiefer; and brothers, Bill, Curtis, Truman and Mackie Teegarden. Molly Catherine Trauernicht, 32, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, immediately after completing a half-marathon in Memphis, Tenn., to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Ms. Trauernicht was born Oct. 25, 1977, one of three triplets alongside siblings Samuel and Katie. She lived in Prairie Village, Kan., Troy, Ill., and Holt, Mo. She graduated from Kearney High School in 1996, where she was captain of the flag corps and a varsity member fo the swim team. After graduating from Truman State University, she earned her CPA and moved to the St. Louis area, working for MPPW and then for Gundaker Commercial Group as assistant comptroller. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Vernon and Eva Trauernicht and Jerome and Ruth Gripka. Survivors include her parents, Janice and Lee Trauernicht; her brother, Samuel Trauernicht and Patrich Trauernicht; and sister, Katie Kilgo; and other relatives. Barbara Vaughn
Barbara Ann Vaughn, 71, Richmond, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. Vaughn was born Sept. 12, 1938, in Alliance, Neb., the daughter of Duane Robert and Elma Lavon (Howerton) Gaunt. She was married to Dennis Ray “Denny” Vaughn on July 31, 1987; he survives. She had been employed as a waitress and later for Price Candy and most recently for Orbseal/Hinkle Mfg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert “Buddy” Gaunt. In addition to her husband, survivors include six children, Deborah Cantu and Sarah Fleming, both of Sarcoxie, Christopher Reynolds and Kevin Reynolds, both of Irving, Texas, and Cheryl Chaffee and Billy Barton, both of Brookfield; one stepdaughter, Denise Vaughn, Kansas City; one brother, Russell Gaunt, Brookfield; three sisters, Virginia Mathews, Lawson, and Wanda Love and Loretta Ritchie, both of Richmond; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Richmond. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Barbara Vaughn Memorial Fund, in care of the family.
Roy Wade
Roy M. Wade, 86, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Wade was born July 27, 1923, in Platte County, the son of Roy and Bertha (Deets) Wade. He was a farmer and then was later employed by Cook Paints of Kansas City. He was married to his wife, Lois, on May 17, 1980; she survives of the home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Wade; and three sisters, Sid Eldin, Lula Mae Whitton and Bernice Edwards. In addition to his wife, Lois C. Wade, survivors include one son, Gregg Wade, Grandview; one stepson, Rick Glenn, Lawson; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Claudia Weishaar
Claudia Nadine Weishaar, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. Mrs. Weishaar was a longtime resident of Excelsior Springs, working as an administrative assistant for Excelsior Springs Medical Center. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth “Lisa” Edwards, on Dec. 13, 2009. Survivors include her husband, Lyle “Bucky” Weishaar; children, Leslie House, Joplin, Patrick Kirwan, Leawood, Kan., and Sean Kirwan, Lenexa, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Denise Workman, Overland Park, Kan., and Stephanie Weishaar, Blue Springs. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
Barbara Wilber
Barbara Alene Wilber, 89, Lee’s Summit, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at her daughter’s home in rural Lathrop, Mo. Ms. Wilber was born June 23, 1920, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Benjamin Arthur Butler Sr. and Lillie Mae (Glancey) Butler. She worked as a secretary for lawyer Jack Wollard in Kansas City, Kan., then later was a homemaker and then secretary for Western Highlands Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Kan. She was married to Albert James Wilber on Aug. 2, 1941. She lived in Excelsior Springs, Lathrop and most recently at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit. She was a 30-year member of the Lawson United Christian and Presbyterian Church in Lawson.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her brother, Ben A. Butler Jr.; and her sister, Dorothy Wright. Survivors include children, James Albert Wilber, Indianapolis, Ind., Wynne Yvonne Peterson, Lathrop, and April Lynn Hackathron, Prescott, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Lawson United Christian and Presbyterian Church in Lawson, with visitation at 1 p.m. A private graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Kan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawson United Christian and Presbyterian Church in Lawson.
Larry Williams
Larry E. Williams, 62, Richmond, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Crowley Cemetery in Rayville. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Isaac Woodland
Isaac Woodland, 31, Liberty, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009. Mr. Woodland was born Nov. 30, 1978, in Maryville, and was a conformed member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Kearney. He graduated from Kearney High School in 1997, and worked for T&E Tire Service in Kansas City. He was preceded in death by three grandparents, John R. Bankston and Walter and Viola Krummel. Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Woodland and James Woodland; his parents, Shirley and Thomas Krummel; grandmother, Mary Ann Bankston; brother, Nathan Woodland; stepbrother, Nathan Krummel; stepsister, Carrie Klebenstone; and companion, Shirleen Oliver. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec.27, at Hosanna! Lutheran Church, 2800 N. Church Rd., Liberty. Burial in Glenridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hosanna! Lutheran Church Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
