Bennie Bailey
Bennie Joe Bailey, 73, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Bailey was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Coffeyville, Kan., the son of Ernest William and Bertha May (Dobbs) Bailey. He was married to Mary Laverne Crowder on Nov. 10, 1958; she survives of the home. He had been employed with the Kansas City Stockyards for 11 years before going to work at Ford Motor Company, where he was employed for more than 21 years before he retired in 1985. He was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church and had served as a deacon for 42 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jeane Schnedicer; and three brothers, Bill Bailey, Bob Bailey and Tom Bailey. In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Cheryl Mynatt, Rayville, and Joe Bailey, Excelsior Springs; one sister, June Anzalone, Deepwater; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Pisgah Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Quality of Greater Kansas City.


"Bill" Bolling
William R. "Bill" Bolling, 81, Lawson, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Bolling was born Oct. 21, 1927, in Taney County, the son of Wayne and Zena (Hobbs) Bolling. He was married to Mary Sue (Myers) Bolling on Oct. 13, 1947. He retired from Ford Motor Company and was also a farmer. He was a member of the Old Union Christian Union Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Duane; and one brother, Denny. Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue, of the home; two sons, William Edward Bolling and Kevin Duane Bolling, both of Lawson; one brother, Gilbert Bolling, Cowgill; one sister, Joy Ursenbach, Cherry Valley, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Old Union Christian Union Church east of Lawson. Burial will be in the Old Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to Old Union Christian Union Church.

Robert Boone Bowness, 75, Liberty, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty. Cremation. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at the funeral home.

Deborah Brown
Deborah Colleen Brown, 55, Kansas City, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, at St. Luke1s Northland Hospital. Ms. Brown was born Aug. 21, 1953, in Kansas City, the daughter of Robert Daniel and Betty Sue (Vest) Stowers. She enjoyed reading, drawing, arts & crafts, gardening and interior decorating. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Survivors include one daughter, Raven N. Brown, and two sons, Michael T. Nuckles (Brown) and Jordan D. Brown, all of Kansas City; one sister, Bobbie Jean Hobbs, Rogers, Ark.; one brother, Jeffery Baugh, Kansas City; and one grandson, Elijah Daniel Brown. Cremation. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the Christian Fellowship of Excelsior Springs, 3360 S. New Garden Road. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Norene Burden
Norene Burden, 80, Liberty, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at her home. Ms. Burden was born Oct. 9, 1928, in Calico Rock, Ark., the daughter of Gilbert and Elizabeth (Gentry) Woody. She retired from William Jewell College in Liberty and was a member of Liberty Manor Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son; two sisters, Ruth Lane and Ruby Woody; and a brother, Howard Woody. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Herl; four children, Carolyn Smith, Marcella Felix, Dennis Burden and Kenneth Burden; a brother, Ernest Woody; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. Funeral services were set for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, also at the chapel. Burial in Glenridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Manor Baptist Church.

Margaret Butts
Margaret Ellen Butts, 72, Las Vegas, Nev., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at her home. Ms. Butts was born April 11, 1936, in South Shields, England. Survivors include four sons, Marc Snelling and Joe Butts, both of Excelsior Springs, Travis Snelling, Las Vegas, Nev., and Lea Oliver, Miami, Fla.; one sister, Rena Mitchell; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Salem Christian Union Church in Excelsior Springs. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.

Ivan Campbell
Ivan D. Campbell, 77, Independence, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008. Mr. Campbell was born June 28, 1931, in Phillipsburg, Kan. He worked for many years at Yellow Freight Company, and retired from there. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Campbell; and daughter, Sherry Campbell. Survivors include two sons, Jim Campbell, Lexington, and Kevin Campbell, Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Linda Harp, Independence, and Karen Campbell, Denver, Colo.; one sister, Eva Ayers, Phillipsburg, Kan.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at Richmond Memory Gardens in Richmond, Mo. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence.

Jennifer Carroll, 26, Richmond, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, from injuries sustained in a car accident. Mass of Christian Burial was set for 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Immaculate Conception Church in Richmond. Visitation and a Rosary were held Thursday, Dec. 11, at the church. Goldie Carver
Goldie Naomi Boring Moree Stumbaugh Carver, 76, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Ms. Carver was a devoted teacher, having completed 36 years of teaching in Liberty and Kearney schools before she retired. She was a member of Liberty Manor Baptist Church in Liberty. Survivors include one son, Randal Boring Moree, Liberty; two daughters, Vickie Christine Higgs, Liberty, and Anita Hedgepeth, Kansas City; and one sister, Mary Jane Byrum, Raytown. Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw. Visitation was to be held during the hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial in Riverside Cemetery in Warsaw. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Liberty Manor Baptist Church in Liberty.

Danny Christiansen
Danny Eugene Christiansen, 53, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Mr. Christiansen was born Dec. 28, 1955, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Bill E. and Phyllis (Barber) Christiansen. He worked as an electrician. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Survivors include his wife, Debbie, Blue Springs; one daughter, Brandy Christiansen, Blue Springs; one son,Brian Christiansen, Branson; his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and David Allbee, Liberty; one brother, Don Christiansen, Liberty; and two sisters, Debbie Atkinson, Lee1s Summit, and Dee McKinley, Lathrop. Cremation. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Liberty Manor Baptist Church in Liberty. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Vernon Clevenger
Vernon E. Clevenger, 86, Liberty, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Liberty Hospital. Mr. Clevenger was born April 27, 1922, in Orrick, the son of James E. and Lulu (Duncan) Clevenger. He was a longtime member of Nebo Baptist Church. He was married to Betty R. Crouse on March 22, 1941. He worked at General Motors for 22 years, retiring in 1972. He was also a vendor at the Liberty Farmers Market for many years. In addition to his parents, James and Lulu Clevenger, he was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Clevenger; a sister, Melva Berndt; and a grandson, Joe Clevenger. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty Clevenger, of the home; two sons, Gary Clevenger, Overland Park, Kan., and Larry Clevenger, Lee's Summit; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Visitation and services were held Monday, Dec. 29, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home.

Jo Ann Collins
Jo Ann Collins, 58, formerly of Orrick, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at her home in Lucerne, Mo. Survivors include her husband, Dennis; and her parents, Luther and Vina O'Dell, Orrick. Services were set for noon Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Playle & Jones Funeral Home in Unionville.

M. Meta Dillon
M. Meta Dillon, 83, formerly of Liberty, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, in Yakima, Wash. Graveside services were set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at New Hope Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation was held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty.

Arthur Dobbs Jr.
Arthur Emerson Dobbs Jr., 82, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Mr. Dobbs was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Kansas City, the son of Arthur E. Dobbs Sr. and Elizabeth (Gallagher) Dobbs. He was married to Shanah Zimmerman on Oct. 17, 1950. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Dobbs. Survivors include his wife, Shanah Dobbs, of the home; sister, Betsy Young, Kansas City; one niece; and four nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Excelsior Springs. A visitation will be held during the hour before the service. Cremation. "Duke" Ellington
Cletus A. "Duke" Ellington, 75, Kearney, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Frances Ellis
Frances Irene Ellis, 92, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008. Ms. Ellis was born Feb. 24, 1916, in Sumner, the daughter of Ross and Florence (Downing) Milford. She began her career in cosmetology at the age of 14, and continued until just a few months prior to her death. She was a cosmetology instructor at Martinez School of Cosmetology for the past 15 years. She was a member of Liberty Manor Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Ellis; and one son, Gary Lee Ellis. Survivors include three children, Joe Ellis, Liberty, Marylyn Walker, Excelsior Springs, and Rolland Ellis, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., followed by services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Ramona Grasmick
Ramona Jean Grasmick, 87, Kearney, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at her home. Ms. Grasmick was born Sept. 26, 1921, in Paola, Kan., the daughter of Raymond W. and Lucille A. Sullivan. She retired from Gerry Optical. She was a charter member of the KC Northland Sams Camping Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Peter, in 2005. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Cremation. A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. *Kathryn Greenway
Kathryn Mourene Peery Greenway, 90, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo., where she had made her home for the past 16 months. She was born Jan. 9, 1917, near Brimson, Mo., the daughter of William Homer and Anna Shaw Peery. She was married to Bobby V. Greenway on June 13, 1948, near Trenton, Mo. Mrs. Greenway taught school in several rural schools in Grundy County, Mo., Auxvasse, Mo., and Center School in Kansas City, Mo. She was a substitute teacher in the Excelsior Springs School District for many years. She was a graduate of Kirksville College. She moved to Excelsior Springs in 1960. She was a member of Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church in Excelsior Springs, where she taught Sunday school and was active in women of the church activities. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Fauntine Peery Gleason and Alice Peery Kuhn; a brother, Woodson Peery; a son-in-law, John Wright; and a nephew, Walter Peery. She is survived by a brother, Stan Peery, Jamesport, Mo.; two sisters, Virginia Tolle and Phyllis Anderson, both of Trenton, Mo.; two daughters, Vicki A. Wright and Susan K. (Dean) Dagley, Excelsior Springs; four grandchildren, Robert Wright, Russell Wright, Deana Branson and Jared Dagley; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church in Excelsior Springs. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Bonnie Halferty
Bonnie F. Halferty, 73, Lincoln, Neb., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. Ms. Halferty was born April 10, 1935, in Johnson City, Kan., the daughter of Emma and Cliff Terry. She went to school in Excelsior Springs, Mo. She was married to Donald Halferty on April 21, 1956. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and sharing their lives. She loved her family and friends and faithfully attended church services at Lincoln Church of Christ. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; three sisters; and a great-grandson, Caleb Lee Halferty. Survivors include her husband, Don; sons, Randy Munkirs and Dana Halferty; sisters, Adalaye Vaughn, Excelsior Springs, Mo., Kay Bauer, Alliance, Ohio, and LaDonna Vaughn, Cole Camp, Mo.; grandchlidren, Chris Halferty, Samantha Halferty, Nicolas Halferty, Jake Halferty and Scott Munkirs; and great-grandchildren, Jayden and Isabelle Halfterty, Naevariyah Warren and Ashley Munkers. Services were held Monday, Dec. 22, in Lincoln, Neb.

Linda Hartel
Linda Darlene Hartel, 58, Kearney, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, of cancer. Mrs. Hartel was employed at Hallmark Cards for 18 years, American Century for four years and was director at Habitat for Humanity in St. Joseph for four years. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Guy Wombles, on Nov. 22, 2007. Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Lane Hartel; Kearney; her two daughters, Jessica and Elizabeth Hartel, both of Kearney; her mother, Mabel Wombles, East Alton, Ill.; and her brother, Gary Wombles, East Alton, Ill. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Arley United Methodist Church, 17113 C Hwy., Kearney. Cremation. Sgt. Kenny Henson
Kenny Henson, 79, Lakeview, Ark. (formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.), died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008. Sgt. Henson was a former employee of the Excelsior Springs Police Department. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruby; and three children, Debbie, Verda and Dennis. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 27, in Lakeview, Ark.

James Isley
James Lewis Isley, 66, Rayville, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Isley was born June 5, 1942, in Perryton, Texas, the son of Lewis Homer and Waldena James (McQuerrey) Isley. He was married to Paula Yannuzzi on Feb. 13, 1965; she survives, of the home. He worked as a meat cutter, and was employed at Bob's IGA for 15 years before retiring. Along with his wife, Paula, they had also owned and operated the Downtowner Bar in Excelsior Springs for 15 years and Paula's Restaurant for 14 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Iolanda Drake, Chattanooga, Tenn.; one son, James Lewis Isley Jr., Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Jerry Isley, Pleasant Valley; one sister, Janet Sykes, Pleasant Valley; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial with military honors will be at Richmond Memory Gardens in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home.

Charles Jackson Jr.
Charles Edward Jackson Jr., 60, Liberty, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008, at home. Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, followed by memorial services at 4 p.m., both at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty.

Ruth "DeeDee" James, 73, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Ms. James was born to Ruth Russell and Clarence Walker in Savannah, Ga., on June 4, 1935. She married Louis James on July 5, 1958. Survived by four daughters, Marsha Fields, Janet Wesley, Jacqueline Cleaves and Terri James; one son-in-law, Pastor James L. Wesley; three brothers, Russell Patterson and Eugene Patterson, both of South Carolina, and Ronald Carter of Baltimore, Md.; three sisters, Bettye Jean Storne and Clair Kitchen, both of Georgia, and Tiffany Walker, Baltimore, Md.; her mother-in-law, Mabel S. James, and one brother-in-law, Roland T. James, both of Georgia; 11 grandchildren, Nicole, Louis, Katena, Markeith, Kitosha, Shavonne, Tyshon, Jason, Tyriek, Felix and Morgan (Christopher); two godchildren, Joseph Thomas and Michele Pierce, both of Paterson, N.J., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Talmadge James III; her mother, Ruth White; her father, Clarence Walker; two stepfathers, Arthur Patterson Sr. and James White; and two brothers, Arthur Patterson Jr. and Fletcher Dean White. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Excelsior Springs Baptist Church, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call on the family at 1101 Melanie Ln., Excelsior Springs. Friends may pay their respects from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, but the family will not be present at that time.

Rose Johnson
Rose Johnson, 94, Purdin, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing Home in Chillicothe, Mo. Mrs. Johnson was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Anthony, Kan., the daughter of Roy J. and Maude (Terrill) Betson. She was married to H. Orlando Johnson on Sept. 3, 1932; he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1999. She was a homemaker and also farmed and was involved in the Bank of Purdin with her husband. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Purdin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Faulkner, a brother, Chester Betson; and two sisters, Pauline Wells and Val Larsen. Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Head, Kearney; a son, Dean Johnson, Purdin; a sister, Marilyn Pope, Hawkinsville, Ga.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 8, at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home in Brookfield; burial in Purdin Cemetery.

Shirley Knipp
Shirley A. (Gramlich) Knipp, 70, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at her home. Ms. Knipp was born March 3, 1938, in Cooper County, the daughter of Ollie Frank and Stella Catherine (Weimholt) Gramlich. She worked for the Liberty School District and, later, for the North Kansas City School District, from which she retired. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; brother, Estil "Boots" Gramlich; sister, Cecelia "Cissy" Anderson; and an infant sister, Norma Lee Gramlich. Survivors include three daughters, Norma Reedy, Betty Henderson and Mary Bahr, all of Liberty; a brother, Vincent "Punkin" Gramlich, Kansas City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., both of St. James Catholic Church in Liberty. Virginia Locke
Virginia Mae Kump Locke died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008. Ms. Locke was born July 16, 1922, in Northfield, Minn.. She was married to William Locke and moved with him to his hometown of Kansas City, Mo. After raising her children, she worked in the psychiatric ward at Trinity Lutheran Hospital. Her husband died two years ago, after 58 years of marriage. Survivors include six children, William Locke and Melissa Locke, both of Oakland, Calif., Thomas Locke, Sequim, Wash., Betsey Locke, Kansas City, Mo., Martin Locke, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Sarah Locke, Rockville, Md. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Aberdeen Village in Olathe, Kan. She will be laid to rest in Northfield, Minn. Arrangements are through Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Dallas Lowrey

Dallas E. Lowrey, 33, Lawson, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008. Mr. Lowrey was born Dec. 21, 1974, in El Dorado Springs, the son of Bob and Sherry Marshall Lowrey. When he was 4, his family moved to the Holt/Kearney area. He was married to Dian Hoffman on Sept. 14, 1996. He was employed with Magna Intier in Excelsior Springs, where he had worked for the past 11 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Lowrey; his paternal grandmother, Evalee Lowrey; and his maternal grandfather, Max Marshall. Survivors include his wife, Diane, of the home; daughter, Dallas, of the home; son, Triton, of the home; his mother, Sherry Lowrey, Cape Girardeau; a brother, Duanne Lowrey, Kansas City; a sister, Roxanna Draves, Chester, Ill.; his paternal grandfather, Dallas Lowrey, Pattonsburg; his maternal stepgrandmother, Marie Marshall, Granby; and his maternal grandparents, Dale and Mary Frazier, Pattonsburg. Judith Ann (Ellis) Mackley, 58, Columbia, Mo. (formerly of Lathrop, Mo.), died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at her daughter1s home. Mrs. Mackley was born Sept. 7, 1950, in Kansas City, the daughter of Rudolph and Katherine (Whitt) Ellis. She was married to Clinton Camp Sr. for 18 years, then was married to Richard Mackley. Carroll Mildfeldt, 81, Liberty, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Ashton Court Care and Rehabilitation Center in Liberty. Mr. Mildfeldt was born Sept. 3, 1927, in Missouri, the son of Edward and Julia (Schwerdtfeger) Mildfeldt. Larry Moulin
Larry E. Moulin, 63, Kearney, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008. Mr. Moulin was born Sept. 26, 1945, in Harrison County, the son of Anderson and Dorlene Baker Moulin. He worked for General Motors for nearly 40 years before retiring as head of the sanitation and recycling department. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sibling. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Patricia; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Jennifer Moulin, Lake Arrowhead; and three grandchildren, Andrew, Christian and Tabitha Moulin. Jose Alfredo Marrujo Ontiveros, 97, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Christmas Day 2008 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehab Center in Richmond, Mo. Jose was born June 17, 1911, in Fierro, N.M., the son of Felipe and Angelita Marrujo Ontiveros. He was reared on an Indian reservation in Arizona and later moved to California. He and his family moved from California to the Kansas City, Mo./Kan., area in the mid-1960s. Jose was a World War II Army veteran and a member of VFW Post 741. He was a security guard at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., for more than 20 years, retiring in 1976. He was a Catholic. Jose was preceded in death by his first wife, Odette; his second wife, Rose, who died in January 2007; and a brother and a sister. Survivors include a son, Joseph Ontiveros, Texas; three daughters, Judy Crabtree, Kansas City, Kan., Suzanne Ontiveros, Excelsior Springs, and Cindy Bryant and her husband, Loyd, Eudora, Kan.; a stepson, Clayton Chamberlain, California; a niece, Gloria "Blackie" Torres, California; and several other nieces and nephews. George Raymond Parkins, 82, Lawson, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008. Mr. Parkins was born Aug. 28, 1926. He was a retired civil engineer for Corn Products. Willie Edna "Billie" Pence, 84, a lifelong resident of Liberty, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008. Laura Walsh Plunkett, 36, Overland Park, Kan., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, after a long and courageous fight against breast cancer. Laura was a 1990 graduate of Excelsior Springs High School. She received her Master of Science-Accounting Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1996. After Laura was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in January of 2005 she formed "Pass it On!", a non-profit organization to help promote breast health awareness and the importance of self-examinations. She was recently awarded the very first "Jana Peters Life is Good" Honor from the Young Survival Coalition-Kansas City and Ribbons of Pink for her work in promoting breast cancer awareness. Laura had a life-long love of writing and wrote a beautiful story about her experience with breast cancer entitled "My Third Lung," which was published in the book, "A Cup of Comfort for Breast Cancer Survivors." An excerpt of that story was featured and won an award in the October 2008 issue of Redbook magazine. Laura's greatest pride, however, was her wonderful marriage to her husband, Michael and their two beautiful children, Morgan and Jack. She loved her family dearly. Laura is survived by her husband, Michael; her children, Morgan and Jack; her mother and father, Larry and Suella Walsh; her sister and brother-in-law, Heather and Johnny Johntz; three nephews, Aidan, Thatcher and Landrum; and loving aunts, uncles and cousins, and other extended family and many special friends. Arthur Paul Pollard, 74, Liberty, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at his home, following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He worked for 27 years as a switchman for the Burlington Northern Railroad, and also owned and operated the Liberty Custom Shower Door Company for 32 years before he retired. Wilma Jean Pugh, 60, Lawson, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at her home. Wilma was born Dec. 9, 1948, in Hominy, Okla., the daughter of Ned and Margaret Frances (Stanley) Porter. She was married to Donald Pugh on July 29, 1989; he survives, of the home. She attended Siloam Spring Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs. Phyllis Raybourn, 78, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehab Center. Phyllis was born Jan. 13, 1930, in Pleasant Hill, Mo., to Jesse Franklin and Minnie Braden Brown. She was married to Maynard Raybourn. They raised five children. She was a loving housewife, mother and grandmother. Phyllis started working at 53 years old for the Kansas City Royals from 1983 to 1998, after Maynard passed away. Mom never complained about her circumstances or the pain she had in her hips and legs. All she has ever done was persevere and did what she had to do as a mother to provide for her kids. We appreciate the sacrifices you made, Mom, and the many, many things you have done for all of us. Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband of 26 years, Maynard, in 1982; and both of her parents, Jesse Brown in 1994 and Minnie Brown in 2006. Phyllis is survived by five children, Wayne and Tina of Deepwater, Mo., Brian and Melissa of Wood Heights, Mo., Sheryl of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Donnie and Savina and Ronnie and Cristina, all of Kansas City. She is also survived by a host of family and friends, too many to list. She regretfully leaves behind nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Jesse, Michael, Stephanie, Annie, Felicia, Johnny Joe, Dominic and Benjamin, as well as two great-grandchildren, Josh and Juliana. With your true perseverance in life and all you have done, you have truly been a blessing in all of our lives...We will all miss you, but you and your courage will never be forgotten...Rest in Peace. Nellie Reynolds
Nellie B. Reynolds, 94, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center. Mrs. Reynolds was born July 23, 1914, in Smithville, the daughter of Leonard Estle and Amney Calven (Lowman) Swan. She was married to J.R. Reynolds on Aug. 12, 1933; he preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1980. She attended public schools in Smithville. Following her marriage, she lived in Birmingham and Orrick, where they had a family farm, then they moved to Excelsior Springs in 1984. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church in Orrick, where she served as church secretary for many years. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Reynolds, on Dec. 12, 1998; two sisters, Wanda Fay Reynolds in infancy and Ruby Fern Reynolds; and one brother, Donald Swan. Survivors include three children, Betty Pauline Aldrich, Republic, Ralph E. Reynolds, Excelsior Springs, and Linda Joyce Hill, Kansas City; two sisters, Betty Conley, Lawson, and Myra May Chisam, North Platte, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. *John Roe
John Alden Roe, 81, Independence, Mo., passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Centerpoint Medical Center. John was born June 10, 1927, in St. Paul, Minn., to Earl and Emma (Lathrop) Roe. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1952. On July 8, 1950, he married Shirley Jansen, and together they raised five children. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, John attended the University of Minnesota and Notre Dame, becoming a licensed radiologic technologist. After 30 years of service as Department Head of Radiology for Children's Mercy Hospital, he retired in 1991. Throughout the years, John was involved with the Kiwanis Club, Sister Cities, Habitat for Humanity, the Boy Scouts and the American Association of Radiologic Technologists. He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Independence, serving as deacon, elder and trustee. He enjoyed Chiefs football and traveling. More than anything, John loved children and was especially proud of his grandchildren1s accomplishments. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him for his sense of humor, his good advice and the prankster that he was. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Roe; children and their spouses, Jeff and Shannon Roe, Bruce and Betty Roe, Jane Cogan, Barbara and David Dent, and Jim Roe; grandchildren, Jennifer Rankin, Adrienne Roe, Brad Roe, Katie Babcock, Kimberly Roe, Melissa Roe, Steven Cogan, Kelly Dent, Ryan Dent, and Quinn Roe; six great-grandchildren; brother, Clyde Roe and wife, Yvonne; sister, Beverly Evans; and four nieces and nephews. Eileen JoHanna Seifert, 78, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Mo. Mrs. Seifert was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Scranton, Iowa, the daughter of Laurence and Elsie Nielsen. She was married to Eugene James Seifert on July 4, 1948; he survives, of the home. She was a homemaker for several years. She and her husband purchased Earl's Electronics in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and she was the vice president and treasurer of the business before they retired after 13 years. For the next eight years, they enjoyed traveling by motor home to many places before eventually moving to Excelsior Springs. She was a member of the Clay-Ray Radio Club. She was of the Methodist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan Nielsen and Aaron Nielsen; and one sister, Margaret Nielsen. In addition to her husband, survivors include four sons, Kenneth Seifert, Excelsior Springs, LaWayne Seifert, Haysville, Kan., Eugene Seifert Jr., Ft. Worth, Texas, and LaVerne Seifert, Excelsior Springs; one sister, Vivian Anderson, Seattle, Wash.; three brothers, Harold Nielsen and Ronald Nielsen, both of Crystal Lake, Iowa, and Laurence Nielsen Jr., Seattle, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Irene Maxine Sharp, 82, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center. Maxine was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Independence, the daughter of William Earl and Irene (Hunter) Rider. On June 2, 1944, she married Ralph Sharp, who survives of the home. She had been employed with the McCleary Clinic in Excelsior Springs and worked as a checker at the S&N with her husband, Ralph. She was a member of the Northland Cathedral in Kansas City. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by one sister, Erlene Lowe. In addition to her husband Ralph, survivors include one daughter, Peggy Young and husband, Ron, Excelsior Springs; one son, Doug Sharp and wife, Shana, Weston; one brother, William Rider and wife, Janice, Georgia; and five grandchildren, Jackie Dodge, Josh Sharp, Drew Sharp, Dustin Young, and Andrea Sharp. Randal Siders
Randal Lee Siders, 21, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at his home. Mr. Siders was born Nov. 11, 1987, in Kansas City, the son of Charles Lee and Angela Denise (Green) Siders. He attended schools in Excelsior Springs. He had worked for two seasons as a steam cleaner in Florida, had worked in landscaping and most recently worked as a mechanic. He enjoyed cars, especially working on them. He had attended Canaan Hill Church of the Nazarene in Lawson. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Green Sr.; and a great-grandfather, Hugh Green. Scott Simpson
Scottie Lee "Scott" Simpson, 34, Stover, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, near Versailles, Mo., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Mr. Simpson was born Aug. 21, 1974, in Kansas City, the son of Terry and Patricia Reiley Simpson. He graduated from Excelsior Springs High School, where he was on the wrestling team for four years and was a state champion in his class. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Ivy Bend near Stover. Survivors include his parents, Terry and Patricia Simpson, of the home; one son, Christopher David Simpson, Illinois; one brother, Christopher Simpson, Excelsior Springs; one sister, Daphnie Simpson, of the home; his maternal grandmother, Muriel Reiley, Kansas City; and other relatives. Frank was born on March 20, 1917 in Ray County, Mo. the son of Kurt and Martha (King) Stein. On June 27, 1941 he married Vera (Harris) Stein who preceded him in death on March 24th of this year. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He retired from Chevron Oil Company. He was a member of the Vibbard Christian Union Church, and was also a member of Colfax Lodge # 460 I.O.O.F. and the American Legion Post # 236, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Laurine Stone
Laurine Arnote Stone, 101, Richmond, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008. Graveside services were held Thursday at Cowgill Cemetery. Arrangements are through Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in Richmond.

Ted Thayer
Theodore William "Ted B." Thayer, 74, Lawson, Mo. (formerly of Belton, Mo.), died Sunday, Dec. 21, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Mo. Mr. Thayer was born Aug. 22, 1934, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of William Barge and Mary Beulah (Huff) Thayer. He was married to Judy Dickey on Feb. 25, 1966; she preceded him in death on July 22, 2006. Mr. Thayer left school early to care for his mother and sisters. After serving in the United States Army, he worked for Dye Candy Company and Propulsion Engines before going to work for Fordyce Concrete, from which he retired in 1996 after 35 years. He also had his own barbecue business, TeddyBear BBQ and had a concession stand he took to various places. He was a member of the Evangelistic Center Church in Kansas City, Mo. for more than 40 years. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dottie Thayer. Survivors include one daughter, Kelley Kilburn, Excelsior Springs; one son, Stephen Thayer, Blue Springs; two sisters, Maxine Burdick and Norma Lane, both of Lawson; and one granddaughter, Alicia Thayer, Excelsior Springs. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at the Evangelistic Center Church in Kansas City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

"Jo" Thompson
Josephine "Jo" Thompson, 93, Kearney, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Westbrook Care Center in Kearney. Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Kearney.

Dorothy Jean Vandiver, 77, Richmond, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008. James Williams
James Preston Williams, 19, Holt, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008. James was born Nov. 5, 1989, in Virginia Beach, Va., the son of Alonzo and Melanie Shelton Williams. They moved to Holt when he was three years old. He received his education in Kearney and attended Kearney High School. At the time of this death he was employed at the Dollar General store in Kearney. Survivors include his parents, Alonzo and Melanie Williams, of the home; his paternal grandparents, James and Verna Williams, Smithville; his maternal grandmother, Jolene Pitts, Senatobia, Miss.; his maternal grandfather, Bill Shelton, Memphis, Tenn.; his paternal great-grandmother, Orpha Callahan, West Plains; two aunts, Charlotte VanEman, Athens, Ga., and Esta Bryant, Excelsior Springs; an uncle, Rusty Shelton, Memphis, Tenn.; and several cousins. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Fry-Bross and Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Memorial contributions may be made in care of Alonzo Williams.

*Frank Wilmes
Frank R. Wilmes, 82, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at his home. Frank was born July 8, 1926, in Maryville, Mo., the son of Emma and Francis Wilmes. He served in the U.S Navy During World War II. He was in the trucking industry most of his life until retiring in 1989. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ann; one sister, Emma Dee Carroll; brothers, Robert and Bill; and son, Richard R. Wilmes. Survivors include his wife, Billie; one daughter, Stacey Wilmes Clay; two grandsons, Rick F. Wilmes and wife, Jennifer, and Trevor A. Clay; one great-granddaughter, Kaylee Jane Wilmes; two sisters, Maxine "Mac" Moran and Virginia "Ginney" Suma; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service to honor Frank's life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Cremation to follow the services. Burial will be at a later date. Roy Wright
Roy Junior Wright, 81, Lawson, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at his home. Mr. Wright was born July 18, 1927, in Avalon, the son of Roy Alan and Blanche Amanda (Richardson) Wright. He was married to Donna Josephine Farris on July 30, 1948; she preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 2008. Mr. Wright worked for GM in Kansas City for more than 36 years before retiring. He had been baptized into the Catholic faith. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Melanie Wright; one brother, Roger Wright; and four sisters, Marie Story, Dorothy Durnil, Helen Perry and Faye Simkins. Survivors include two daughters, Dana Speiser, Lawson, and Jennifer Park, Chillicothe; two sisters, Lois Colliver, St. Joseph, and June Combiano, Moralton, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be held at Lawson Cemetery.

Toby Wymore
Toby Dan Wymore, 38, Gladstone, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. Mr. Wymore was born July 9, 1970, in Wichita, Kan. He had been a Marine veteran during Desert Storm. He lived in the Gladstone and Kansas City North areas for most of his life. Survivors include his daughter, McKenna Wymore; his mother and stepfather, Patsy and Jack Ferguson; his father and stepmother, Danny and Barbara Wymore; his grandmother, Vera Chitwood; two sisters, Rhonda Sorensen and Megan Wymore; three brothers, Troy Wymore, Joshua Wymore and Aaron Wymore; two stepsisters, Shelly Ferguson and Libby Vedder; and other relatives. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home in Kansas City. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at the chapel. Inurnment will occur at a later date at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dream Factory.

Gladys Camden Zingarelli
Gladys Zingarelli, 95, died Dec. 26, 2008, at her home in Murietta, Calif. Cremation. Gladys was born five miles south of Excelsior Springs, Mo., on July 21, 1913, to Evaline and Jesse Camden. She had a sister, Grace, and a brother Garth, who preceded her in death in October 1948. Survivors are nieces Phyllis Camden Butler, Norma Camden Schwarzel of Crystal Lakes and a nephew, Kenneth Camden, Menifee, Calif. Gladys was a worldwide traveler with her husband, Joseph, who died in September 2000 at the age of 98.
