Kacey Adams
Kacey Michael Adams, 22, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at his home. Mr. Adams was born Dec. 4, 1985, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Mark William Wagner and Jimi Lynn Adams. Kacey was a 2004 graduate of Excelsior Springs High School. As a vo-tech student,he began working at Waller Trucking in Excelsior Springs as a mechanic in 2003, and he was employed with them at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark William Wagner, on June 14, 2008; one uncle, Travis Wagner; his maternal grandparents, J.T. "Jimmie" and Audrey Adams; and his paternal grandmother, Thelma Marie Schwab. Survivors include his mother, Jimi Adams, of the home; his daughter, Emma K., Kearney; one sister, Kylie Whitcomb, Lawson; a half-sister, Tommy Mae Wagner, Kansas; his grandparents, Lloyd and Mary Beth Wagner, Rush Center, Kan.; and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends at that time. Burial will be at a later date in Polley Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. J. D. Allen
J.D. Allen, 72, Orrick, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at the Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Mo. Mr. Allen was born Nov. 27, 1935, in Oklahoma, the son of W.S. and Rena (Munn) Allen. He was married to Rebecca Kathran Roberts on Dec. 29, 1969; she survives, of the home. He worked for several years as an independent truck driver, and also owned and operated Allen1s Steam Cleaning in Orrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Delma Watts; and one brother, Walter Allen. In addition to his wife, survivors include his natural children, Bob Allen, Spokane, Wash., and Lind Allen and Debbie Hernandez, both of Oxnard, Calif.; four stepchildren, Bill Jeffries, Marilyn Jeffries, Kenneth Jeffries and Gary Foote, all of Orrick; four brothers, Hugh Allen, Tommy Allen, Norman Allen and Sonny Allen; two sisters, Thelma Gilbert and Helen Boyd; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Fleming Baptist Church in Fleming, Mo., with Brother Fred Kelley Jr. officiating. The services will be concluded at the church. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Richmond.

Rose Bales
Rose Ettie Bales, 74, Richmond, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. Bales was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Rayville, the daughter of Lloyd Efton and Mamie Mae (Wright) McFee. She was married to Glen Arthur Bales, Sr. on Sept. 11, 1974; he survives of the home. She was a lifelong resident of the Richmond community. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Richmond Assembly of God Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd McFee, Junior McFee, and Roland McFee; and four sisters, Jane Swafford, MaryBelle Green, Lola Estenbaum, and Louella McFee. In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Larry Outersky, Gladstone, and Rick Outersky, Mountain Grove; five stepchildren, Glen Bales Jr., Richmond, and Glenda White, Paul Bales, Patricia Owens, and Kimberly Bales, all of West Fork, Ark.; two sisters, Wilma Battagler, Orrick, and Vera Ramey, Kansas City; six grandchildren; 12 stepgandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in the Crowley Cemetery in Rayville. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Barry Bauman
Barry L. Bauman, 51, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008. Mr. Bauman was born to Ed and Betty Bauman of Kearney, Mo. He was a lifetime resident of Clay County. He was preceded in death by his father, Ed Bauman. Survivors include his children, Tamra West, Natasha Bauman, and Tyler Bauman, all of Clay County, and Jonathan Bauman, Arizona; his mother, Betty Bauman; brothers, Ed Bauman Jr., Bob Bauman, and Brian Bauman; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Arley Methodist Church in Kearney, where a memorial service will be held from 7-8 p.m.

Marsha Bean
Marsha June Bean, 62, Liberty, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Bean was born March 7, 1946, in Independence, the daughter of June May and the late Alvin May. She was married to Dr. John Bean in 1968, and in August of that year began teaching physics and physical science at Liberty High School. Survivors include her husband, Dr. John Bean; mother, June May; brother, Dr. Rod May; two daughters, Dr. Marchelle Bean and Dr. Melissa Leimkuehler; and one grandchild. A private memorial service will be held. Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Chapel in Kearney. Larry G. Bemis
Larry G. Bemis, 61, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at his home. Mr. Bemis was born July 7, 1947, in Antigo, Wisc., the son of Gordon and Betty (Reynolds) Bemis. He was married to Rita J. Madole on April 14, 1973; she survives. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from Jan. 9, 1968, to Aug. 12, 1970. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Association. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Lee Bemis. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Dan Bemis, Lawson; his mother, Betty Bemis, of Weston, Wisc.; a sister, Sue Richardson, Reedsburg, Wisc.; his grandmother, Ella Wassman, Weston, Wisc.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In accordance with the family's wishes, cremation services are private. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

Terry Bowles
Terry Lee Bowles, 52, Kansas City North, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. Mr. Bowles was born Feb. 8, 1956, in Independence, the son of Marvin and Lou Ann (McCrorey) Bowles. Survivors include a son, Jeremy; his parents, Marvin and Lou Ann Bowles; two sisters, Deborah Henderson and Marla Ellison; and his companion, Vicki McGinnis. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the chapel; burial in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Shirley Brown
Shirley Ann Brown, 75, Lawson, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Ms. Brown was born Oct. 3, 1932, in Kansas City, the daughter of Theodore Franklin and Frances Faye (Murray) Miller. She was married to Larry Omer Brown on Sept. 25, 1953; he preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2007. She was a homemaker and a resident of the Lawson community for more than 30 years. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Gerald Gene Brown; one sister, Jean Post; two grandchildren, Christopher Brown and Casey Lynn Welsh; and one great-grandchild, Shelby Elam. Survivors include four children, Steven E. Brown, Yorktown, Va., Donnita Franklin, Holt, Sandy D. Sharon, Richmond, and Larry T. Brown, Lawson; three brothers, Wayne Miller and wife Vera of Raytown, MO, Darrell Miller and wife Theresa of Wood Heights, MO and Ted Miller and wife Mindy of North Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Barbara Longgood and Carol Naylor; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 4, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens in Richmond.

*Joan Brown-O'Dell
A. Joan (Smart) Brown-O'Dell, 77, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at her son's home. Joan was born April 19, 1931, in Rayville, Mo., to Jesse and Flora Cecile (Stone) Smart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ray Donald Smart; one sister, Joyce Smart; and her husbands, Herb Brown, in 1978, Glenn Brown, in 1989, and Cecil F. O'Dell, in 2008. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale K. and Debbie Smith, Rayville, and Roger J. and Lorie Smith, Excelsior Springs; stepdaughter, Linda K. Shubert, San Bernardino, Calif.; one brother, Ralph J. Smart, North Kansas City; four grandchildren, Audra and Terry Minck, Kansas City, Rusty and Christy Smith, Rayville, Chancellor Smith, Excelsior Springs, and Natalie Stalnaker, San Bernardino, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Jessica Katyln, Chelsea, Kayla, Colton and Dustin; and a niece and nephew, April and Kevin Boyer, Kansas City. She was raised on a farm in the Rayville community and graduated from Lawson High School in 1949. She worked at the Excelsior Springs Laudry Office for 10 years; she was at one time Chief Deputy City Clerk and the Office Manager for the City of Excelsior Springs. She retired in March 1988 from the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Excelsior Springs/Sedalia. She was a member of the Spacia Club and Barbee Memorial Presbyterian Church. She had lived in Liberty, Excelsior Springs and Rayville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Flack Memorial Church in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.

Steven Buckley
Steven A. Buckley, 54, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008. Mr. Buckley was born Nov. 24, 1953, in North Kansas City, the son of Thomas and Margaret Buckley. Survivors include his wife, Stacy; daughter, Andrea; two brothers, Tom Buckley and Billy Buckley; sister, Susie Johnson; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, followed by services at 7 p.m., both at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with expenses, and for his daughter, Andrea.

Edith Croskey
Edith Mae (Dunlap) Croskey, 94, Farley, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Pleasant Valley Manor. Ms. Dunlap was born Oct. 25, 1913, in Wathena, Kan., the daughter of Rose Jane (Warren) and Elza D. Dunlap. She was married to Wyman L. Croskey on Nov. 14, 1934. She lived in Farley most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Farley Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Sharon Rose Croskey; and her brothers and sisters. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Pogue, Rockford, Ill., and Shirley Lyons, Lynnwood, Wash.; sons, Lloyd Croskey, Shoreline, Wash., Loren Croskey, Kearney, and Dennis Croskey, Kansas City; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City; a graveside service followed at Platte City Cemetery. Annabelle Cunningham
Annabelle Cunningham, 72, Richmond, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond. Annabelle was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Missouri, the daughter of Clara Mae (Wilson) and Willie O1Dell. She was married to Jack E. Cunningham. She was also the owner and operator of a retirement home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; and one grandson. Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Brubeck, Liberty, Joyce Hufford, Richmond, and Susan Danner, Richmond; her son, Jack Cunningham Jr., Richmond; sister, Wanetta Clark, Richmond; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service at Richmond Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be me made to the American Cancer Society.

Norma DeForest
Norma Jean Luedtke DeForest, 67, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at her home. Mrs. DeForest was born Nov. 3, 1940, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of Elmer Forrest and Gertrude Ernestine (Service) Batchelor. Following her first marriage and being part of a military family, she lived in various locations, including Germany, where she was often employed with the base commissaries. In 1971 she moved to Fort Riley, Kan., where she lived and worked for several years before eventually returning to Excelsior Springs. She had worked in the local theaters and also Tiffany's Home Health. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was married to Ronald DeForest in June 2007; he survives of Georgetown, Ontario, Canada. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Don Batchelor. In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Maria Whitehead, Lawton, Okla.; three sons, Mark Holloway, Oceanside, Calif., Mike Wallace, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Jim Wallace, Lawton, Okla.; one sister, Carol Stanhope, Excelsior Springs; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Cystic Fibrosis.

*Todd Dickens
Todd Jason Dickens was born on May 25, 1975, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Clyde Albert and Gale Lee (Enlow) Dickens. Todd passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kan. Todd was 33 years old and had lived most of his lifetime in the Ray County area. He had attended Excelsior Springs High School in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Todd had worked in the construction industry, where he installed fiberoptic cables. Todd loved to spend time with his children and enjoyed watching them play at any sport. He enjoyed playing video games with is children and had a passion for watching movies. Todd loved to fish and spent many hours out of doors. Todd was of the Christian faith. Todd is survived by his parents, Clyde and Gale Dickens, Riverside, Mo. He is also survived by his wife, Tricia Wartenbee, of the home in Orrick, Mo.; his four children, Kaylee Sue Dickens, Blake Cole McNulty, Kagen Michael Wartenbee, and Mackenzie Lee Dickens; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Terry Alan Dickens, Clay County, Mo., and Timothy Scott Dickens and Shonda, Sibley, Mo.; and his special canine buddy, Ozzy, of the home in Orrick, Mo. It was the family's desire that memorial services for Todd be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Orrick Baptist Church, with Dr. Clay Kahler officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Price Cemetery in Tahlequah, Okla., also with Dr. Kahler officiating. Arrangements are through Gowing Funeral Home in Orrick. Doris Durham
Doris Durham, 74, Lawson, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at her home. Doris was born March 21, 1934, in Vidette, Ark., the daughter of Roy and Ora (Talburt) Shrable. She was married to Haman Durham on May 16, 1951; he preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 2007. Doris and Haman owned and operated Durham Tax and Bookkeeping Service in Lawson for several years. She was a member of the West Tracy Church of Christ in Excelsior Springs. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Letha Shrable; and one brother, Kenneth Shrable. Survivors include three children, Donald Durham, Excelsior Springs, Cynthia Posey, Gravois Mills, and Melinda Carpenter, Lawson; one sister, Eva Bush, Liberty; three brothers, Bernie Shrable, Mansfield, Bernard Shrable, Ennis, Mont., and Dean Shrable, Covington, La.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, in Bakersfield, Mo.

"Tony" Fernandes
Manuel Anthony "Tony" Fernandes, 62, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at his home in Sacramento, Calif. Survivors include two sons, Chris and Josh; one daughter, Denice; a sister, Marie Overman, Lathrop, Mo.; and six grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, at Sanderson Cemetery in Rayville, Mo.

Martha Finch
Martha Sue Finch, 66, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at her home. Ms. Finch was born June 30, 1942, in Kansas City, the daughter of Frank and Mary Ellen (Nichols) Finch. She worked as a telephone operator for Bell South. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Cremation. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

Mary Freel
Mary Bess Freel, 90, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Mo. Ms. Freel was born May 6, 1918, in West Plains, the daughter of R.S. & Jen Rodgers. She was married to Samuel H. Freel in August 1947. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; and her sisters, Marjorie Rice and Betty Hill. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sam R. and Melinda Freel; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Memory Gardens in Richmond. Donald Fuenfhausen
Donald E. Fuenfhausen, 76, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at his home. Mr. Fuenfhausen was born March 1, 1932, in Salisbury, the son of Emil and Lena Goetz Fuenfhausen. He was married to Mary Lou Roling on June 2, 1953. They lived in Kansas City and North Kansas City before moving to Liberty in 1957. Mr. Fuenfhausen worked as a mechanic and a supervisor for TWA for 41 years, retiring as a manager in 1995. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; three sons, James Allan Fuenfhausen, Liberty, Kenneth Lee Fuenfhausen, Greenwood, and John Scott Fuenfhausen, Columbia; a brother, Bill Fuenfhausen, Liberty; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at St. James Catholic Church in Liberty. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salisbury. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at the church, where a parish rosary will be offered at 7:30 p.m. and a Tribe of Mic-O-Say service will begin at 8 p.m. Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Kearney. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Hospital Hospice, Little Sisters of the Poor or the Boy Scouts of America's Heart of America Council.

Ellis Harris
Ellis Franklin Harris, 61, Smithville, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008. Mr. Harris was born April 23, 1947, in Smithville, the son of Wylie Franklin and Faye Ruth (Harris) Harris. He was married to Mary Katherine Tuter on June 28, 2000; they lived in Kansas City before returning to Smithville. He was a dispatcher for Hampel Oil in Fairfax, Kan., and a truck driver for Gallo Produce in Kansas City. He also farmed. He was preceded in death by his father, Wylie Franklin Harris. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; his mother, Faye Harris, Smithville; his children, Traci Struemph, St. Elizabeth, Scott Franklin Harris, Lee’s Summit, Kim Taylor, Excelsior Springs, and Rose Brady, of the home; his brothers, Jess Allen Harris, Garnett, Kan., and Randall Harris, Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Patty Booth, Kearney; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville. Private family inurnment will be held at Grayson Cemetery. Pauline Harris
Pauline Harris, 84, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Ms. Harris was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Protem, the daughter of Wilford and Mary Alice Persinger Clarkson. She worked as a secretary. She was married to James Harold Harris on Oct. 3, 1946. She was a member of Flack Memorial Christian Union Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister; two nephews and three nieces. Survivors include four sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Joe Prado, Wilma and Charles McCoy, Virginia and Harold Hemeyer, and Carolyn and Matt Wakeley; one brother, James Clarkson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at Flack Memorial Christian Union Church in Excelsior Springs. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Anna Mae Shipman Hicks died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Ms. Hicks retired from North Kansas City Hospital in 1998 after 35 years of service. In addition to her parents, John and Lillian Shipman, she was preceded in death by her husband, Neil; her son, Michael; her sister, Mary Jane Alexander; and her brother, Joe Shipman. Survivors include her daughter, LeaAnn Hicks, of the home; three sons, Jeff Hicks, Lathrop, and Tim Hicks and Russell Hicks, both of Gladstone; brothers, Charles Shipman, Versailles, Jim Shipman, Liberty, and Carl Wayne Shipman, Warsaw; sisters, Sandra Busbee, Madison, Ala., and Linda Walker, Fredericksburg, Va.; six children, including Kimberly Ann, Liberty, Charles Michael Hicks, Excelsior Springs, and Cole Hicks, Lathrop; and five great-grandchildren. Gayle Holterman
Gayle Holterman, 71, Liberty, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2008, following a short illness. Mrs. Holterman was born Oct. 16, 1936, in Port Washington, Long Island, New York. She was a dedicated wife and mother of three, and raised Siberian Huskies. Survivors include two daughters, one son, four granddaughters, one grandson, four great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Beulah Jones
Beulah Evelyn Jones, 76, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Valley Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs. Ms. Jones was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Arkansas, the daughter of Lee A. & Mary Ellen (Strother) Lewis. She was married to Larry Jones She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry. Survivors include one daughter, Sheena L. Franklin, Kansas City; sons, Michael Dale Hobbs and Terry Allen Plemmons; brothers, Omar Neal Lewis, Poplar Bluff, and Arvil "Buck" Lewis, Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Harold Keller
Harold Emmitt Keller, 80, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at his home. Mr. Keller was born May 3, 1928, in Louisiana, Mo., the son of Walter Emmitt and Jessie Blanche (Sapp) Keller. He was married to Marjorie Naomi Bell on Aug. 24, 1949; she survives. He drove a dump truck, and then became an over-the-road truck driver before retiring after 48 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers. In addition to his wife, survivors include three children, Vicki Clark, Holt, Brenda Slusher, Liberty, and Chuck Keller, Kansas City; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Sue E. Kinnison, 84, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Robert W. Krulic, 73, died Thursday, September 4, 2008, following an extended illness. Mr. Krulic was born Aug. 11, 1935, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Joseph A. and Lida (Thomas) Krulic. He was married to Valerie Terjak on July 12, 1986. He was a manager for American Can Company for 45 years before he retired in 1992. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Krulic; and a son, Robert W. Krulic Jr. Survivors include his wife, Valerie Krulic; one daughter, Jody A. Mrs. Maharg was born Nov. 9, 1927, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of Eli and Elizabeth Hulse Manley. She worked as a housekeeper at Liberty Hospital. She was married to John J. Marxen and began her life as a homemaker. Shirley was a longtime member of North New Garden Primitive Baptist Church in Wood Heights. Mrs. McAllister was born March 19, 1926, in Richmond, the daughter of Frank Derstler Sr. and Cecil (Richardson) Derstler. She lived in Richmond most of her life. She was a Baptist. John M. McKown
John Martin McKown, 69, Missouri City, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Mr. McKown was born Feb. 18, 1939, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Earl Thomas and Olive Irene (Wohlgamuth) McKown. He was married to Tommie Lucille Writsman on Dec. 16, 1963; she survives. He had attended school in Carrollton and Excelsior Springs before graduating from Orrick High School. He drove a rock truck for a short time before going to work for Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Orrick Baptist Church and served on the Missouri City Cemetery board for several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters, Danny McKown and infant twins. In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, John McKown II, Missouri City; four brothers, Earl Thomas McKown Jr., Smithville, Ronald McKown, Independence, George McKown, Excelsior Springs, and Richard McKown, Kansas City; six sisters, Dixie VanOster, Beverly Hutchings, Sandra Waters, and Joyce Stockton, all of Orrick, Sherry Loutjen, Lincoln, and Karen McKown, Excelsior Springs; and other relatives. Bob Miller
Robert Glen "Bob" Miller, 62, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at his home. Mr. Miller was born Sept. 4, 1946, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Orville Glenn and Marilyn M. (May) Miller. He was married to Mary E. Birkness on March 25, 2000; she survives. He was employed with TWA from 1968 until 2001, retiring after 34 years. He was preceded in death by his father and his stepfather, Wendel Clark. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Brian Miller, Surprise, Ariz., and Curtis Mayes, Lathrop; three daughters, Barbara Jones, Smithville, Teresa Francois, Ashland, Ore., and Pam Kelerick, Kirksville; his mother, Marilyn Clark, Excelsior Springs; two sisters, Sharon Elliott, Excelsior Springs, and Shirley Rubino, New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and six grandchildren. Jewell Mills
Jewell Clevenger Mills, Wyoming, Mich. (formerly of the Orrick, Mo., area), died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods in Byron Center, Mich. Mr. Mills was born July 19, 1925, in San Bernardino, Calif., the son of Jewell M. and May (Clevenger) Mills. He was married to Marilyn Virginia Squires on Aug. 6, 1953. He graduated from high school in Excelsior Springs, Mo. And held degrees from Emporia State College and the University of Michigan. He was a teacher of senior high special education at Utica Community Schools in Utica, Mich., for 28 years. In retirement, he and his wife moved ot the Orrick area. He had been a Navy veteran of World War II, having served as a pharmacist's mate on the hospital ship the USS Effingham. He was a former vice president of the Michigan State Teachers Union and served in other positions in various organizations. Survivors include his wife, M. Virginia Mills, Wyoming, Mich.; three sons, Samuel W. Mills, Lansing, Mich., Edward J. Mills, Kansas City, Mo., and Martin K. Mills, Caledonia, Mich.; and one grandson. Cremation. Burial at Union Cemetery in Orrick, Mo., will be private. Roberta Moore
Roberta Capps Moore, 88, Liberty, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, after a long illness. Ms. Moore was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Princeton, Mo., the eighth of 10 children of Herbert Cain and Corah Alice Brantley Casteel. She was married to Joe Hall Capps on June 22, 1941, and made their home in his hometown of Liberty. Mr. Capps died in 1981. On May 12, 1990, she was married to Lowell Garl Moore, an old friend from Princeton. She had been a homemaker. She was active in the Republican party, and twice had run for elective office in Clay County. She had been chair of deacons at South Liberty Baptist Church and then at Second Baptist Church of Liberty. In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Joe Curtis Capps; a grandson, Joe David Clevenger; and seven brothers and sisters. Survivors include her husband, L.G. Moore, Lincoln, Neb.; six children, Herbert Lee Capps, Jefferson City, Mary Alice Dobberson, Robert Casteel Capps, and Thomas Cain Capps, all of Liberty, George Hall Capps, Des Moines, Iowa, and Martha Lou Capps, Eden Prairie, Minn.; two brothers, Herbert Cain Casteel Jr., Carthage, and James Dudley Casteel, Greenville, S.C.; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Joyce Ann Myers, Lawson, Mo., was born on Aug. 18, 1939, the daughter of Erick and Dorothy Jackson. She married the love of her life, James "Speedy" Myers, on May 17, 1957, in Polo, Mo. Aside from being a devoted wife and mother of three cherished sons, her top priority in life was her faith and love of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a long-standing member of the Lawson Baptist Church, and over the years has dedicated much of her time and prayers to the needs of her church family and friends. Survivors include her husband, Speedy Myers; son, James and his wife, Michelle, and their children, Jessica and husband Jeremy, Jillian and husband Damon, and Jamie; son, Jeff and his wife, Janna, and their child Isaac; son, Jonn Mark and his wife, Jill, and their child Zachary; fove great-grandchildren, Aspin, Zach, Allie, Presley and Davin; one sister, Janice Hodgman and her husband, Ray, and their children Adam and Celia, and her children Alec and Ashton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David Jackson. *Cecil Petty Mynear - 1916-2008
Cecil Petty Mynear, 92, Kearney, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at Excelsior Nursing & Rehab in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Born March 10, 1916, in Kearney, he lived most of his life in the area. He was a 1936 graduate of Kearney High School. He married Beryl Pulse, who preceded him in death. Mr. Mynear was a sewing machine mechanic at Pioneer Bag Company in North Kansas City for many years, and later worked for Porter Lumber Company in Kearney until he retired. He was a member of the Holt Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge in Kearney for more than 50 years, Walkers & Talkers Saddle Club, Crooked River Draft Horse and Mule Association, Backwoods Country Horsemen and the Clydesdale Association. He owned Beryline Kennels and raised beagles. He competed nationwide, having raised a National Grand Champion, and his dogs were in a Purina advertisement. He loved coon hunting. The highlight of his life was a trip with Darrell Barnett and Jerry Drew to Reno, Nev., where at age 89, he camped out, rode horses in the mountains and even chased a bull. Much of his father's family lived in Kentucky, and Cecil loved attending family reunions with his family in and around Lexington, Ky. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Della (Harmon) Mynear; and two brothers, Thomas and J. T. Mynear. Survivors include his son, Brian McKnight, Holt, Mo.; a grandson, Joshua McKnight; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at First Baptist Church in Holt. Interment will take place at Antioch Cemetery in Holt. Juanita Nickell
Juanita Anita (Voehl) Nickell, 81, Richmond, Mo., died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at her home. Ms. Nickell was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Paris, Mo., the daughter of Adolph "Gus" and Myrtle (Luntsford) Voehl.  She was married to Otho Nickell on Aug. 31, 1952. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Simpson, Dorothy Hill, Norma McElwrath and Annabelle Voehl; and a grandson, Mick Bodine. John O'Brien
John G. O'Brien, 76, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Valley Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs. Mr. O'Brien was born Jan. 28, 1932, in Kansas City, the son of Agnes and William O'Brien. John loved cats, and was well taken care of by the nursing staff at Valley Manor. Cheryll Rainey
Cheryll Vonette Rainey, 51, Independence, Mo. (formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.), died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at her home. Ms. Rainey was born Aug. 21, 1957 in Farmington, N.M., the daughter of Richard Dave and Clarice Dean (Cox) Gunter. She moved to Excelsior Springs to attend Job Corps, then spent most of her married life in Excelsior Springs. She had been employed by Clarice's Home Care Services for five years, working in Shelbyville, Mo., and Waterloo, Ill. For the past 10 years she had lived in the Kansas City and Independence areas. She was a member of Jesus Is The Rock Church of Excelsior Springs. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Clarice and Donald Jones, Percy, Ill.; significant other, Lupe Bejarano, Independence; a son, Eric Rainey, Cameron; a daughter, Rachell Rainey, Excelsior Springs; four sisters, Phyllis Olquin, Percy, Ill., Tammie Erisman, Gillette, Wyo., Cindy Meeks Gunter, Clovis, N.M., and Jeffie Lewis, Nashville, Ill.; a brother, Richard Gunter Jr., Percy, Ill.; and nine grandchildren. Robert Reeves
Robert Ray Reeves, 78, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Liberty Hospital. Mr. Reeves was born March 21, 1930, south of Cowgill, the son of Arthur Floyd and Etta Mae (O'Dell) Reeves. He was married to Mary Louise Cain on Sept. 15, 1951; she survives. He did factory work before going to work at Honeywell, from where he retired in 1992 after 37 years. He was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Wheat and Flossie McElwee; and one brother, Edwin Reeves. In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Jenifer McCrary, Excelsior Springs; one son, Tim Reeves, Peculiar; one sister, Wilma Ford, Stet; one brother, Wilbur Reeves, Richmond; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Jeannette L. Rice
Jeannette Lois Rice, 64, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Mrs. Rice was born June 5, 1944, in Jefferson City, the daughter of Marvin Romaine and Luella Frances (Hildebrandt) Long. She was married to Douglas Allan Rice on Feb. 5, 1961; he survives. They lived in Jefferson City until 1970, when they moved to Liberty and later to Excelsior Springs. She was preceded in death by her father. Major Guy Scheetz
Major (Ret.) Guy Edward Scheetz, 88, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at his home. He was a retired major in the United States Air Force. Major Sheetz was born Oct. 20, 1919, in Sedalia, the son of Chester C. and Willa Carmen (Brewington) Scheetz. His parents moved to Excelsior Springs when he was an infant. He entered the U.S. Army Aviation Cadet Program on Dec. 30, 1941. A decorated fighter pilot, he participated in aerial combat in the Southwest Pacific theater of operations. Returning to school after World War II, he received his Federal Aviation Airline Transport Pilot license. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Victoria Suzette; and a brother, Richard Irving Scheetz. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Mary Frances (Payne) Scheetz, of the home; his former wife, Olivia Scheetz; six children, Diana Lynn Hefner, Cabot, Ark., Steven Allen Scheetz, Rochester, Wash., Karl Bruce Scheetz, Spring Creek, Nev., Cinthia Lou Boone, Cabot, Ark., Patricia Leigh Scheetz, Aberdeen, Wash., and Eric Edward Scheetz Sr., Minden, Nev.; three stepchildren, Marcie Northrop, Tucson, Ariz., and Tom Carroll and Glenda Saura, both of Excelsior Springs; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday Sept. 27, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, with the Rev. Dwayne Northrop officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside. There is no visitation scheduled. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Blanche Shanks
Blanche D. Shanks, 82, formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008. Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Bross & Spidle Chapel in Excelsior Springs; burial in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Friends were invited to call during the hour before the service at the funeral home.

Charles Shaw
Charles Lee Shaw, 49, Higginsville, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Mo. Mr. Shaw was born Feb. 16, 1959, in Sugar Creek, the son of Arlin F. and Bertha (Patrick) Shaw. He was preceded in death by his mother; sister, Kathy Lamson; son, Joshua Willbanks; and his significant other, Judy Willbanks. Survivors include his father, Arlin F. Shaw, Levasy; sons, Jeremy Willbanks, Lexington, and Johnathan Willbanks, Lexington; daughters, Jessica Willbanks and Jackie Willbanks, both of Lexington; sisters, Linda Shaw, Sugar Creek, and Lois Short, Bates City; and two grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 18, at Sibley Park in Sibley. Cremation. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Richmond.

Beulah Sisco
Beulah M. Sisco, 73, Richmond, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Shirkey Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral services were set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond; burial in Richmond Memory Gardens. Visitation was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home.

Marvin Smith
Marvin Howard Smith, 74, Richmond, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Arrangements are private. Interment will be held in Peshastin, Wash. Arrangements are through the Cremation Society of Kansas and Missouri.

Mary L. Snelling
Mary Lucille Snelling, 72, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Snelling was born Aug. 5, 1936, in Braymer, the daughter of Jude and Louise (Cain) Redhair. She had lived in Braymer until she was married. She had been a waitress and moved to Excelsior Springs about 45 years ago. Following her retirement in 1989 she moved to Forsyth until 1996, when she returned to Excelsior Springs. She was a member of Salem Christian Union Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters. Survivors include five children, Becky Johnston, Excelsior Springs, Barbara Harper, Taneyville, Laura Silkwood, Springfield, Kelly Satterfield, Lawson, Mike Snelling, Excelsior Springs; two stepsons, Marc Snelling, Excelsior Springs, and Travis Snelling Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Salem Christian Union Church in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in the Black Oak Cemetery near Braymer. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

Dustin Stevenson
Dustin Keith Stevenson, Richmond, Mo., the infant son of Randy Stevenson and Rhonda Dunlap, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008. In addition to his parents, survivors include his grandparents, Dorothy Stevenson and James and Ethel Dunlap; seven siblings; and numerous aunts and uncles. Graveside services were set for 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at Providence Cemetery in Kansas City. Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

Donald Thompson
Donald Jean Thompson, 80, Knoxville, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at his lifelong home. Mr. Thompson was born Sept. 2, 1928, to Florence (Perry) and Lewis Thompson in Missouri. He was married to Janis Dean Becker on Dec. 24, 1948. He was a farmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janis; and sister, Marjorie Burgess. Survivors include two daughters, Jennie Thompson, Cameron, and Cherie Palmer, Richmond; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Cremation. A private committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Knoxville Cemetery. Close friends and family are invited to attend. Beulah Tolliver
Beulah N. Tolliver, 86, Excelsior Springs, Mo. (formerly of Independence, Mo.), died after a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. Ms. Tolliver was born in Sugar Creek, the daughter of James A. and Elba (Cox) Tolliver. She lived in Independence for many years before moving to Excelsior Springs to be close to her daughter. She retired from Montgomery Ward after 25 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kearney. Survivors include her daughter, Lynn Greer, Excelsior Springs; grandchildren, Andrew Greer, Christina Dawn Trussell, and William Cody Greer; and a great-grandson, Dominic Holden Trussell. Sevices will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Mt. Washington Forever Mausoleum Chapel, 614 S. Brookside Ave., Independence; visitation will be held during the hour before the service. Mary Trayler
Mary A. Trayler, 101, Plattsburg, Mo. (formerly of Lawson, Mo.), died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Clinton Care and Rehab Center in Plattsburg. Ms. Trayler was born Nov. 12, 1906, in Milo, Iowa. She was married to John E. Trayler on June 20, 1939; he preceded her in death in 1994. She was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, Fred Trayler Plattsburg; one daughter, Jevene Baer, Forrest, Va.; two grandsons; two granddaughters; and three great-grandsons. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Lawson Cemetery in Lawson. There is no scheduled family visitation, but friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Thelma Trisler
Thelma Grace Trisler, 90, Liberty, Mo., died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at Ashton Court Care & Rehabilitation Center in Liberty. Ms. Trisler was born Aug. 15, 1918, in South Sioux City, Neb., the daughter of William H. and Edith (Duckson) James. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry O. Trisler; and three sisters. Survivors include her daughter, Miki Reon Mott, Leavenworth, Kan.; sister, Beulah Hooton, Iowa City, Iowa; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m Friday, Oct. 17, at the College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kan. Cremation. There will be an inurnment at a later date in Sioux City, Iowa. Ginny Ulmer
Ginny Ellen Ulmer, 11-day-old infant daughter of Dana and Regina (Pace) Ulmer, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at her home in Lawson, Mo. Ginny was born Sept. 15, 2008, in Liberty. In addition to her parents, survivors include nine brothers and sisters, Zachary, Dana, Hannah, Jacob, Autumn, Jeremy, Christian, Abigail, and Annabelle, all of the home; paternal grandmother, Willie Ulmer, Alexandria, La.; and maternal grandmother, Juanita Lutz, Zuni, Va. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Old Union Cemetery near Lawson. There is no visitation scheduled. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Lawson.

Dicky Vermillion
Dicky Ray Vermillion, 57, Rayville, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at his home. Mr. Vermillion was born Aug. 27, 1951, in Kansas City, the son of Grady Austin and Mely (Brown) Vermillion. He was employed in construction as a flat worker, and had been employed by Swearingen Construction, Bill Long and Earl Coates before his health failed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Mely Vermillion; three sisters; and one brother. Survivors include four children, Lori Lafferty, Excelsior Springs, Arenita Haines, Richmond, Bobby Newsome, Orrick, and Scotty Vermillion, Richmond; four brothers and sisters, Grady Ace, Mary Waring and Clara Johnston, all of Rayville, and Terry Vermillion, Cowgill; and 11 grandchildren. Billy Wallace Sr.
Billy E. Wallace Sr., 79, Climax Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008. Mr. Wallace was born Oct. 13, 1928, in Baldnob, Ark., the son of Denver and Katie Pace Wallace. He worked as a truck driver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy J. Wallace. Survivors include four children, Julie A. Evans, Climax Springs, Jeannie M. Cramer, Plattsburg, Billy E. Wallace Jr., Gladstone, and Katy J. McFerrin, Orrick; one sister, Gladys Perry, Conway, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Carl Wallis
Carl Benjamin Wallis, 88, Kansas City, Mo., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at Ashton Court Nursing Center in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Wallis had been a master plumber with Local #8 of the Plumbers Union. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Wallis, of the home; a son, Clifford "Gene" Wallis, Tombstone, Ariz.; a daughter, Karlyn Wren, Kansas City; a sister, Evelyn Binkley, Eugene, Mo.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren. Verna Witte
Verna Sylvia Witte, 77, Richmond, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond.  Ms. Witte was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Hardin to Fred Henry and Dorothea (Barchers) Witte.  She was a long-time member of the Lexington United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Erna Witte and Mabel Witte. Survivors include her brother, Carl, Richmond; nieces, Marcia Scott, Albany, and Carla Witte, Kansas City; and nephews, David  Witte, Independence, Duane Witte, Holt, and Scott Witte, Richmond.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond; burial at Fairhaven Cemetery in Norborne. She will lie in state from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Lexington United Church of Christ.

Grimes Yoakum
Grimes E. Yoakum, 86, Richmond, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Bethel Cemetery near Richmond.
