Gonzalo R. Anaya Jr., Liberty, Mo., died Saturday, June 27, 2009. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at Watkins Brothers Chapel in Kansas City. Visitation was held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.

Larry Anderson
Larry Ray Anderson, 48, Fulton, Mo., died unexpectedly Thursday, June 25, 2009, in Fulton. Mr. Anderson was born Aug. 20, 1960, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Charles Ray and Karen Mae (McCammon) Anderson. He worked at the Labor Pool in Independence. In 2003 he was employed by Backers Potato Chip Company in Fulton, where he was employed at the time of his death. He was of the Baptist faith and had been baptized at the Old Mount Zion church. In addition to his grandparents, he was preceded in death by his mother, Karen Anderson, in 1994. Survivors include his father, Charles R. Anderson, Independence; two brothers, Scott Anderson, Excelsior Springs, and Charles Anderson, Kansas City; two sisters, Mary Anderson and Ellen Anderson, both of Independence; and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in Old Mount Zion Cemetery, near Mosby. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the funeral home.

Vera M. Berry, 92, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, June 19, 2009. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at Second Baptist Church-Tutt Chapel in Liberty. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Gladstone.

Winifred “Sue” Buis, 60, Ridgeway, Mo., died Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Kirkley Chapel Church in Ridgeway. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 11, at the church. Burial in Kirkley Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Charles Carrell
Charles A. Carrell, 78, Mosby, Mo., died Monday, June 15, 2009, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Carrell was born Jan. 25, 1931, in Grandview, the son of Charles Floyd and Alta (Stout) Carrell. He worked as a general contractor and had owned and operated Carrell-Way Roofing for more than 40 years before he retired in 2002. He was married to Ireta Shoemaker; she preceded him in death in 1988. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberley Ledford, in 2003; and a sister, Beverly Franklin, in 1994.Survivors include one son, Tommy Ledford, Mosby; three daughters, MargettSolomon, Kansas city, Tammy Ledford, Ottawa, Kan., and Christy Carrell, ColeCamp; two brothers, Gary Carrell and Gaylord Carrell, both of Belton; asister, Delores Solomon, Texas; 21 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Carson-Speaks Chapel in Independence, with cremation to follow. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the chapel.

Frank Carter
Franklin Dale “Frank” Carter, 59, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Excelsior Springs Hospital. Mr. Carter was born Nov. 5, 1949, in Kansas City, the son of Oval Charles and Billie Ruth (Victory) Carter. He had been employed at Henry Wrust Company for 15 years, operating a printing press. He then worked for Greyhound Bus Lines for five years, and then later went to work for KCTA Metro Bus Line, where he had been employed for the last 13 years. He was of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by his father in 1996. Survivors include one son, Franklin Carter, Excelsior Springs; his mother, Billie Ruth Carter, Excelsior Springs; a stepdaughter, Chrystal Miller, and a stepson, Jeremy Miller, both of Kansas City; and one sister, Grace Mormino, Excelsior Springs. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, with visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, also at the funeral home. Cremation.

Harvey Clark
Harvey Earl Clark, 73, Liberty, Mo., died Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Mr. Clark was born Dec. 27, 1935, in Oakland, Calif. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a son; two daughters; and other relatives. Mr. Clark requested no services. Arrangements are through Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty.

Todd Cornine
Todd Eric Cornine, 33, died Saturday, June 27, 2009. Mr. Cornine was born Feb. 15, 1976, in Boonville, Mo., the son of Marvin Eugene and Brenda Nell Venable Cornine. He was married to Brandy Marie Howard on March 30, 1998. Todd spent his childhood living in Blackwater. He was a 1994 graduate of Boonville High School and entered into the United States Army shortly after graduation. He served his country for six years, with one year being spent in Korea, and was later honorably discharged from the Army. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Edwin Venable; and his paternal grandfather, Archie Cornine. Survivors include his wife, Brandy, of the home; two children, Kaylee and Cole Cornine, of the home; his parents, Marvin and Brenda Cornine of Blackwater; two sisters, Martha Fahrenbrink, Boonville, and Tammy Pierson, Richmond; his paternal grandmother, Mildred Cornine, Marshall; maternal grandmother, Grace Venable, Lamar; and other relatives. Visitation will be from held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Camdenton. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dr. Bill Cuthbertson
Dr. William Welsh Cuthbertson, 81, died Friday, June 5, 2009, in Plattsburg, Mo. Dr. Cuthbertson was born June 22, 1927, in St. Louis, and moved to North Kansas City as a child. After graduating from Plattsburg High School in 1945, he supported himself as a painter while living in Liberty with his grandmother and attending William Jewell College. He returned to William Jewell as a teacher in 1958, and served as chairman of the History Department for many years before he retired in 1985. He wrote a biography of his predecessor at the college, Dr. H.I. Hester. During his summers, he visited some of the most important battle sites of the Civil War. He was married to Eleanor Bernice Blackburn on Dec. 16, 1960. They and their sons were active members of Second Baptist Church, and Dr. Cuthbertson was an ordained Baptist minister, frequently serving as a visiting preacher at rural Missouri churches, including the church at Gilead. Since 1992 he had lived at Cedars of Liberty. Survivors include his sister, Sue Breckenridge, Plattsburg; half-brother, Ernest Cuthbertson, Cheyenne, Wyo.; sons, John Cuthbertson, San Diego, Calif., and David Cuthbertson, El Paso, Texas; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, in the Tutt Chapel at Second Baptist Church in Liberty. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, also at the chapel. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery in Liberty. Arrangments are through D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty. Robert Boliver “Bob” DePugh, 86, Richmond, Mo., died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his home. Cremation. In accordance with Mr. DePugh’s wishes, there will be no services. Contributions to help defray funeral expenses may be made in care of Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St., Richmond, MO 64085.

Kevin Dimes
Kevin W. Dimes, 44, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Friday, June 5, 2009. Kevin was born Feb. 27, 1965, in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of Carl and Barbara Reed Dimes. He was vice president of Bank Midwest, president of the Rotary Club, active member of the Waterfest and Christmas committees and participant in numerous other community activities. Survivors include his wife, Christine; children, Katelynn, Caleb, Sean and Zachary; his parents, Carl and Barbara Dimes; and brothers, sisters and in-laws, Christopher and Julie Dimes, Scott and Jenny Dimes and Kelly and Greg Ambrose. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 8, at the Excelsior Springs Baptist Church, 1500 Rosalea St., Excelsior Springs. Cremation. Uvonne Durm
Uvonne Echo Durm, 76, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mrs. Durm was born Dec. 10, 1932, in Ord, Neb., the daughter of Ralph Arnold and Ivy Lavanche (Ingraham) Sperling. She had worked as administrative clerk for a grain milling company. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for more than 50 years and was also a volunteer at Westview Elementary School for 15 years. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Jean, in 1959. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Thomas A. Durm, of the home; daughters, Criss Howell, Lenexa, Kan., Linda Reeve, Excelsior Springs, and Cory Dorsey, Milwaukee, Wisc.; brother, Rodney Sperling, Fairbury, Neb.; sisters, Evelyn Hiett, Denver, Colo., and Larietta Williams, El Paso, Texas; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., both at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 13109 Highway O (Hwy 10 at Rt. O), Wood Heights. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City. Arrangements are through Mt. Moriah & Freeman in Kansas City. Ronald Gulick Sr.
Ronald K. Gulick Sr., Kansas City, Mo., died Monday, June 15, 2009. Mr. Gulick was born May 29, 1948, the son of Irwin and Sophia Gulick. He retired from Jack Cooper Transport after 30 years. He was a Catholic. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim, and a sister, Carolyn. Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; three children, Shannon Shelton and Ron Jr. and Amanda, all of Independence; two sisters, Sandra DeScepper, Independence, and Janice Cox, Excelsior Springs; and six grandchildren. Visitation was held Wednesday, June 17, at White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone; funeral services were held Thursday at the funeral home. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Mary Hatfield
Mary M. Hatfield, 60, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, June 6, 2009. She was the wife of Gordon, mother of 10 and grandmother of 37. She was loved by all. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kan. There will be a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by dinner at 5 p.m. at Salem Christian Union Church.

Mitzi Heath
Mitzi Ellen Heath, 49, Independence, Mo., died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Centerpoint Medical Center. Ms. Heath was born Oct. 22, 1959, in Japan, the daughter of George B. Funk, who preceded her in death. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Nancy and Warren Lockard, who soon became her parents. She worked as a mechanic for Pepsi-Cola for many years. Survivors include her children, Mark Funk, Ashley Heath and Dominic Castilleja, all of Independence; her parents, Nancy and Warren Lockard, Osceola; sisters, Ramona Lockard, Warsaw, Noma Dobbs, Blue Springs, and Kim Lockard, Kingsville; and two grandchildren, Zachary and Anthony Funk, Kearney. Visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, at Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Blue Springs Cemetery. Rev. “Jess” Jackson
Rev. Jesse “Jess” Jackson, 68, Independence, Mo., died Thursday, June 11, 2009. The Rev. Jackson was formerly the pastor of Cameron Assembly of God in Cameron and Lineville Assembly of God in Iowa, and staff pastor at Englewood Assembly of God in Independence. He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse D. Jackson Sr.; his stepfather; and one sister. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Phyllis Jackson, of the home; two sons, Jesse Jackson III, Illinois, and Cliff Jackson, Liberty; one daughter, Kim Brashear, Half Rock; stepbrother, John Burnett, Springfield; three sisters, Dorothy J. Flippin, Peggy Mansfield and Nancy Huestis, all of Springfield; and his mother, Juanita Burnett, Springfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, at Englewood Assembly of God in Independence. Visitation was held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, prior to the service, at the church. Interment was in Monticello Cemetery in Shawnee, Kan. Arrangements are through Mt. Washington Forever Funeral home in Independence. Martha Keisker
Martha Jane Keisker, 85, Lee’s Summit, Mo., died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Wilshire at Lakewood Care Center. Ms. Keisker was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Hardin. She served as a school secretary to her husband and had a career at the Bank of Lee’s Summit. She was a member of Lee’s Summit United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Keisker, in May 2000; four sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include one son, Larry M. Keisker; one sister, Gladys Colbert; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Langsford Funeral Home in Lee’s Summit. A memorial service was scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, at the funeral home. Burial in Oakland Cemetery in Chamois. Colene Ruth (Hendrix) Kincaid, 92, Knoxville, Mo., died Monday, June 15, 2009. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the funeral home. Burial in Knoxville Cemetery.

Tonya King
Tonya L. King, 37, Liberty, Mo., died Saturday, June 6, 2009. Mrs. King was born Dec. 24, 1971, in Kansas City. She grew up and attended high school in Kearney, then earned a degree at Missouri Southern State University. She worked for seven years as a supervisor for Ford Motor Company, and was recently employed by the U.S. Postal Service. Survivors include her parents, Bob and Linda Leytham, Kearney; her husband, Jesse King, Liberty; her brother, Rob Leytham, Lawson; and other relatives. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at the Annunciation Community Center in Kearney. Crmeation. Arrangements are through Elite Funeral Chapel in Kansas City. Alma Larvel
Alma Lucille Larvel, 82, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, June 19, 2009. Survivors include five sons, Keith Varvel, Dale Varvel, Dave Varvel, Mark Varvel and Clint Varvel; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty; interment in Sira Cemetery in Yates Center, Kan.

Dorothy Love
Dorothy Madeline Love, 81, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Ms. Love was born June 22, 1928, in Ray County, the daughter of Wilbur Joseph and Reta Madeline (Cavender) Gulley. In October 1946 she was married to Donald Louis Love, who preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2004. She was a beauty operator for eight years and also worked at Cox’s Greenhouse until 1986. She was a homemaker. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Spurbeck and Betty Allred. Surviving include a daughter, Jennifer Hosman, Richmond; a son, Terry Love, Richmond; one sister, Joan Herlihy, San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shirkey Care Center Activities Fund.


Mary Lynn
Mary Louise Lynn, 87, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, June 14, 2009. Ms. Lynn was born Oct. 23, 1921, the daughter of Robert E. and Nellie Mae Foley Pence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank O. Lynn; and nine siblings. Survivors include her daughters, Sue Evans and Mary Ligon; sons, Pete and Frank Lynn; stepson, Gerald Ray Lynn Sr.; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Excelsior Springs Baptist Church, 1500 Rosalea. Burial will follow at Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

Prof. Ron McCrary
Professor Ronald Gene McCrary passed away Thursday, June 24, 2009, in Picayune, Miss. Prof. McCrary was born Dec, 20, 1945, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the son of Earl Gene and Betty Mae (Teegarden) McCrary. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a professor of romance languages at the University of Mississippi State and Kent State University. He was preceded in death by his wife, Professor Judith (Bruce) McCrary, and his father, Earl Gene McCrary. Survivors include his mother, Betty McCrary, Excelsior Springs; and his two sisters, Connie Murray and Stephanie McCrary-Perry, also of Excelsior Springs.


D.C. McKown
D.C. McKown, 83, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Monday, June 15, 2009, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center. Mr. McKown was born July 22, 1925, in Excelsior Springs, the son of David Craven and Virgie Caroline (Clark) McKown. On March 30, 1946, in Alameda, Calif., he was married to Sadie Kathleen Baker, who preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 1993. Mr. McKown received his education in Excelsior Springs public schools. A veteran of World War II, he joined the United States Navy on Jan. 8, 1943. He was honorably discharged on July 22, 1946, obtaining the rank of Boatswain’s Mate Second Class USN. Following his discharge he began to operate a variety of local businesses including Mac’s Appliance, Mac’s Furniture, Mac’s Antiques and Mac’s Auctions, from which he retired in 2004. He was a member of VFW Post #236, the Elks Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. Mr. McKown also enjoyed gardening, sports which included golfing, bowling and supporting the Kansas City Chiefs, and also buying and selling various artifacts. In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Sharp and husband, Don, Excelsior Springs; three sons, David McKown and wife, Shelley, Excelsior Springs, Jackie McKown and wife, Roberta, Kansas City, and Paul McKown, Excelsior Springs; two sisters, Betty Wilson, Excelsior Springs, and Grace Bissell, Golden, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were set for 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, with full military honors. There will be no formal visitation, but friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post #236 or the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center Activities Fund.

Richard Molinario
Richard Wayne Molinario, infant son of Beverly Baker and Mark Molinario, Kansas City North, Mo., died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. In addition to his parents, survivors include a brother, Nicholas Gibson, Kansas City North; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Barbara Baker, Excelsior Springs; and paternal grandparents, Richard and Sandra Molinario, Lake Winnebago. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville, with the Rev. Pat Tobin officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Resurrection North Cemetery.

Charlotte Moore
Charlotte Oydette Moore, 73, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mrs. Moore was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Hollywood, Calif., the daughter of Mack Lowan and Sadie (McGee) Popejoy. She was married to Edwin Ray Moore on Oct. 15, 1984; he survives. She was a homemaker. She was a born-again Christian and a member of Woodland Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Melody René Harris; and a brother, Mack Popejoy, in 2008. In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Melinda Peebles, Arlington, Texas; two sons, Michael Harris, Arlington, Texas, and Mack Harris, Pine Knot, Ky.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, in the community room at the Ruey Anna Apartments, 320 W. Excelsior, Excelsior Springs, M0. Cremation. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

Michael Mooren
Michael W. Mooren, 56, Liberty, Mo., died Monday, June 15, 2009, in Red Bud, Ill. Mr. Mooren was born Sept. 1, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a graduate of O’Hara High School in Kansas City and was a longtime member of St. Regis Parish. He was an officer for many years for the Kansas City Police Department; the Montrose (Mich.) Police Department, where he was chief of police; the North Kansas City Police Department and later the Clay County Sheriff’s Department before he retied. Kathryn Nelson
Kathryn Ann Nelson, 80, Liberty, Mo., died Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Ms. Nelson was born July 29, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Scholz) Mueller. She was married to James A. Nelson Sr. on Nov. 28, 1948. For many years she was a school psychologist and teacher with the North Kansas City School District. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Liberty. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Nelson Sr. Survivors include four children, James A. Nelson, Minneapolis, Minn., Michael Nelson, Liberty, Thomas Nelson, San Diego, Calif., and Elizabeth Nelson, Liberty; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Ronald L. Piercy, 72, died Friday, June 19, 2009. Mr. Piercy was born March 7, 1937, in Carthage, Mo., the son of June and Don Piercy. He served in the Air Force, stationed in Iceland during the Cold War. He started and operated several businesses, including ADE Lumber & Supply Company and Complete Roofing Supply. Grace Sams, 83, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at North Kansas City Hospital. Mrs. Sams was born on Aug. 17, 1925, in Linneus, Platte County, Mo., the daughter of Alvis and Lucy (Hall) Runyan. In addition to working as an administrative assistant for the Jones Store Company in Kansas City for several years, she lived and worked together with her husband, Jack Sams, for 57 years on their farm. She was an avid reader, genealogist, historian, gardener and traveler. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wendell Runyan; and a sister, Thelma Carson. Survivors include a son, Mel Sams, Colorado; a daughter, Linda Ferris, Maryville; a sister, Carol Runyan, Washington; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Rylan Keith Saulsbury, infant son of Taylor Saulsbury and Brittany Smith, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Robin Elizabeth (Sims) Shields, Kansas City, Mo., died Monday, June 8, 2009, at her home after a long battle with diabetes. Mrs. Shields was born in December 1955 in Kansas City. Helen M. Shofler, 82, New Braunfels, Texas (formerly of Liberty, Mo.), died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at her home. Ms. Shofler was born March 6, 1927, in Liberty, the daughter of Fred and Lila Coreen (Keller) Foster. She was a member of Nebo Baptist Church. She was a lifelong resident of Clay County, Mo., before she moved to Texas five years ago. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Foster, when she young; her husband, Fred Shofler, on March 29, 1985; her mother, Coreen Henderson, on June 14, 1988; and her sister, Mary Lou Newell, on March 11, 1990. Rev. James Smith Sr.
The Rev. James E. Smith Sr., 80, died Monday, June 8, 2009. The Rev. Smith was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Vendor, Ark. He retired from the East Side Assembly of God Church after 33 years, and was also associated with churches in Sioux City, Iowa, Richmond, Mo., and Mason City, Iowa. Virgil Thompson
Virgil L. Thompson, 95, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Mr. Thompson was born March 5, 1914, near Cowgill, to Olie and Nellie (Lee) Thompson. He married Lena Mae Shelton on Dec. 23, 1933; they were married 70 years and five months before she preceded him in death on May 24, 2004. They lived in numerous places as they traveled with their jobs. Mr. Thompson farmed during his early years. He managed the grain elevators in Orrick, Carrollton, Kirksville and Ewing. After managing the grain elevator in Ewing he worked as an electrician, wiring grain elevators and feed mills in Missouri and Kansas. He was a longtime member of Christian Union Churches. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clifton Eugene “Gene” Thompson. Survivors include one sister-in-law, Mildred Thompson, Richmond; a godchild, Jim Wilson, Peculiar; and many nieces and nephews. "Glenn" Turner
Earl "Glenn" Turner Jr., 66, Kearney, Mo., died Monday, June 1, 2009, as a result of an auto accident in Lowry City, Mo. Mr. Turner was born Oct. 26, 1942, in Willow Springs, the son of Earl Glenn Turner Sr. and Norma Turner. He was employed with the Bayer Co. He was a member of the Christian Union Church in Independence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his sister, Shirley Stewart; and his brother, Kenneth Turner. Barbara L. Watson, 81, Lawson, Mo., died Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Ms. Watson was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Bisbee, Ariz., the daughter of Raymnond and Maude Long Ratterree. Mary Ellen White, 57, Butler, Mo., died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at her home. Mrs. White was born Dec. 28, 1951, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of William Samuel and Martha Nell (Thompson) Crippen. She was married to Jeffrey Bart White on March 19, 1976; he survives. She was a homemaker most of her life. For 10 years she was employed at Wal-Mart in Liberty in the fabric department. She and her husband had resided in Butler for the past six years. She was of the Christian faith. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Crippen, on May 14, 2003. “Butch” Williams
Derrell Keith “Butch” Williams, 65, Lathrop, Mo. (formerly of Plattsburg, Mo.), died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Williams was born Nov. 13, 1943, in Sedalia, and lived most of his life in Plattsburg. He was a truck driver. In addition to his parents, Derrell S. and Marjorie B. Vera B. Williams, 76, Orrick, Mo., died Friday, June 5, 2009, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. Williams was born July 3, 1932, in Siloam Springs, Mo., the daughter of Elliott and Mary (Stubbs) Collins. She was married to Huey E. Williams in December 1952. She had lived in Kansas City and Pleasant Valley before moving to Orrick in 1973. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Beulah, Evelyn and Delphie; and a brother, William. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Huey E. Williams, of the home; four sons, Glenn Welch and Melvin Williams, both of Kansas City, Bruce Welch, Urbana, and Ronnie Williams, Orrick; one daughter, Pamela Cantrell, Excelsior Springs; a sister, Delphie Turner, Sedalia; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Earl Withee, 85, Pleasant Valley, Mo., died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Withee was born Jan. 20, 1924, in Lansing, Iowa. He worked for more than 35 years at General Motors Fairfax. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Belle Withee. Monty Jo Worlledge
Monty Jo Worlledge, 65, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at her residence in Gladstone, Mo. Ms. Worlledge was formerly of Lawson and Excelsior Springs. She had worked at the Bank of Lawson for 20 years.
