David Anderson
David Charles Anderson, 59, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010. Mr. Anderson was born April 25, 1950, in Kansas City, Kan., and lived in the area for more of his life before retiring to the Lake of the Ozarks. He worked for Hallmark Cards for 35 years, then after retiring continued to work in the construction field. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Dale. Survivors include his wife, Doris Maxine Anderson, of the home; a daughter, Nicole Kincaid, Excelsior Springs; a son, Reese Anderson, Excelsior Springs; his parents, Charles and Delores Anderson, Climax Springs; four brothers, Glen Anderson, Seattle, Wash., Rev. Mark Anderson, Hiawatha, Kan., Don Anderson, Climax Springs, and Keith Anderson, Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Dene Vogrin, Kansas City, Kan., and Marsha Anderson, Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at the chapel. Burial in Glenridge Cemetery.
Zachary Anderson
Zachary J. Anderson, 21, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Excelsior Springs Hospital. Mr. Anderson was born Aug. 8, 1988, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Donald and Debbie Anderson. He attended Excelsior Springs High School. He was a member of Rock Falls Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Debbie and Matt Marrant; brothers, Matthew and Luke Anderson; brothers, Wesley and Kevin Marrant; sister, Brandy Trainer; and his grandparents, Robert and Clara Horton, Donnie Anderson and Mollie and Bud Sims. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Rock Falls Baptist Church, followed by a service, also at the church. Burial will be in Elmira Cemetery. Mary M. Bahlmann, 70, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, in Rochester, Minn. Mary was born Sept. 26, 1939, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Arnim Griffith and Ethel Garrison Griffith. She worked as a resident adviser for the Job Corps. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and a longtime Missouri resident. Larry G. Barber, 71, Kearney, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at his home. Jon Kevin Bryan, 46, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at his home. Martha A. Cook, 89, Cameron, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at St. Munchin Catholic Church in Cameron; burial in Graceland Cemetery in Weston. A prayer service was held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, followed by visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home in Cameron.
Ansel Copple Ansel Burle Copple, 90, Liberty, Mo. (formerly of Breckenridge, Mo.), died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Rosehill Cemetery in Breckenridge. A memorial service was held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Liberty United Methodist Church, with visitation and family fellowship following. Arrangements are through Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe.

Barbara E. Crook, 60, Richmond, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010. Services were set for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Chandler Baptist Church in Liberty; burial in Richmond Memory Gardens. “Aunt CC” Crosby
Valerie Clarice “Aunt CC” Norton Crosby died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Lawson Manor Care Center in Lawson, Mo. Ms. Crosby was born July 29, 1916, in Minden Mines, the daughter of Frank Norton and Mary Louise Rushford Norton. She was a longtime member of Kearney First Baptist Church and Leeds Baptist Church in Kansas City. She was employed for many years at East High School in Kansas City. She was married to Willie W. Crosby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Crosby, on July 8, 1979; two brothers, Warren and Kenneth; and one sister, Mary Lou Newell. Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Kearney. Mitchell Cross
Mitchell Allen Cross, 45, Kansas City North, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, following a motor vehicle accident. Mr. Cross was born Jan. 20, 1965, in Aurora. He worked at Ben Bolt Barber Shop in North Kansas City. He attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty. He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Cross. Survivors include his wife, Kelli Cross; children, Marcus Allen Cross, Preston Lee Cross, Troy Mitchell Allen Cross and Taylor Patrick Payne; his mother and stepfather, Brenda and Charles “Hap” Wilson; brother, John Michael Cross; and other relatives. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty. James Eason
James Lawson Eason, 56, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at his home. Mr. Eason was born Aug. 14, 1953, in Rantoul, Ill., the son of Lenton Edgar and Edith (Stephens) Eason. He was employed with Certain Teed Corporation in Fairfax, Mo., for 32 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Excelsior Springs. He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Lenton Eason II. Survivors include his spouse, Gail Vassmer, of the home; three children, Christopher James Eason, Grain Valley, Brian Thomas Eason, Excelsior Springs, and Elizabeth Jane Eason, Kansas City, Kan.; his mother, Edith Imhoff, Gladstone; one sister, Sharon Stockton, Gladstone; four stepsisters; one step-brother; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. *Jane Farabee
Jane Farabee, 62, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Hillview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Platte City, Mo. Jane was born on Oct. 21, 1947, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the daughter of David and Amy Maude (Manley) Stanway. On March 9, 1969, she was united in Marriage to Dennis Farabee, who survives of the home. She worked as a paraprofessional in Special Education. She was a member of Smith Fork Baptist Church in Osborne, Mo., the Red Hat Society, and Calico Quilters of the Excelsior Springs United Methodist Church. Besides her husband, Dennis, of the home, survivors include one son, Patrick Farabee and wife, Christiana, of Wood Heights, Mo.; one daughter, Michelle Prindle and husband, Tommy, of Liberty, Mo.; one brother, David Stanway of Parkville, Mo.; two sisters, Amy Perkins of Fenton, Mo., and Sarah Logston of Richmond, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Laura and Tara Prindle and Robbie, Beth and Amie Farabee. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial will be in the Old New Garden Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Special Olympics, in care of the funeral home.
Iris Fuller
Iris Nadine Fuller, 77, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. Fuller was born Dec. 10, 1932, in Connersville, Ind., the daughter of Emerson and Vivian (Reece) Gulley. She was married to Dan Clark Fuller on Oct. 13, 1961; he survives. She had lived in Excelsior Springs since 1990 and was a homemaker. She was a member of Tryst Falls Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Jayne Cornish, Salina, Kan.; four sons, Donald Fuller, Cheyenne, Wyo., David Fuller, Excelsior Springs, Douglas Fuller, Platte City, and Jeffery Fuller, Excelsior Springs; three sisters, Joy Hapner and Patsy Morris, both of Connersville, Ind., and Phyllis Lake, Everton, Ind.; one brother, Terry Gulley, Plainfield, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at the Masonic Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. There is no public visitation. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Home for Children or any children’s charity of the donor’s choice.
Dora Gaddie
Dora Violet Gaddie, 84, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010, at Centerpointe Hospital in Independence, Mo. Mrs. Gaddie was born July 28, 1925, in Norwich, Norfolk, England, the daughter of Herbert John and Lily (Willamette) Curson. She was married to Marvin Wendell Gaddie on June 2, 1945; he preceded her in death in May 1988. She was a war bride who came to America with her husband in 1946. She was a homemaker and a pastor’s wife and was involved in the ministry at Grace Baptist Church several years ago. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Marvin W. Gaddie Jr., on Feb. 2, 1980; two brothers, George and Albert; and three sisters, Lily, Blanch and Joan. Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Thayer, Kansas City, D.J. Kephart, Independence, and Margaret Blankenship, Excelsior Springs; one son, Steve Gaddie, Prathersville; one brother, John Curson, Norwich, England; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held Monday, Feb. 15, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs; burial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. There is no public visitation.

C. Melvin Gill, 96, Richmond, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond; burial in Richmond Memory Gardens. Betty Jean Gowing, 74, Richmond, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond. Becca Hastings
Becca Hastings, 90, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010. Ms. Hastings worked for MAWD Labs after she retired from the Clay County Health Department. She was a member of Hillside Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert. Survivors include her son, John Hastings and his wife, Sharon; and grandson, Cameron Hastings. Services were set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at White Chapel Funeral Home in Kansas City.

Joyce L. Haupt, 69, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at Liberty Terrace Nursing Home in Liberty, Mo. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atchison, Kan.; burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Atchison, Kan. Fern Henson
Fern Elizabeth Henson, 91, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 28, 2010, at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Excelsior Springs. Survivors include three children, James W. Henson and John C. Henson, both of Kansas City, and Jeanette Ivy, Liberty; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Graveside services were set for 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at Green Lawn Cemetery in Kansas City. Arrangements are through Park Lawn Funeral Home in Kansas City.
John Hermes
John Victor Hermes, 79, Overland Park, Kan., died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at his home. Mr. Hermes was born Sept. 16, 1930, in Greencreek, Idaho, the son of Peter Anthony and Bernadina “Dena” Nuxoll Hermes. He was a 20-year executive with Sears, Roebuck & Co., initially as store manager in Lamar, Colo., then ending his career as operating manager of the Kansas City catalog region. Afterward, he was an insurance/finance broker. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Hermes; and three sisters, Irene H. Westhoff, Emma H. Larsen and Vivian H. Surbrugg. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Virginia Ward Hermes, of the home; six children, Victoria Rindt, Garden City, Kan., Lynda Heimbach, Olathe, Kan., Janet Day, DeSoto, Kan., Rev. Michael P. Permes, Kansas City, Kan., Thomas S. Hermes, Frisco, Texas, and Douglas J. Hermes, Liberty, Mo.; one sister, Anna Marie H. Lanari, Beaumont, Calif.; and nine grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park, Kan.; burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kan. Riley Hutchinson
Riley C. Hutchinson, 83, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010. Mr. Hutchinson was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Longlane, the son of Clinton Edwin and Martha Ellen (Jones) Hutchinson. He retired from Cook Paint & Varnish Company. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Jane Hutchinson; and two grandchildren, Michelle Hutchinson and Brian Gray. Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hutchinson; two sons, Michael Hutchinson, Kansas City, and Terry Hutchinson, Excelsior Springs; a daughter, Joyce Gray, Cameron; stepdaughter, Diniece Warlick, Overland Park, Kan.; stepson, Milton Paul Blankenship, New York City, N.Y.; brother, Harry Hutchinson, Collins; one grandson; five stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, until service time at 2 p.m. at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty. Private burial at New Hope Cemetery in Liberty.
Dorothy Jackson
Dorothy Jane Jackson, 85, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at Park Lane Care and Rehabilitation Center in Wentzville, Mo. Mrs. Jackson was born May 4, 1924, in Orrick, the daughter of Roy and Tolito Ethyl (Camden) Frank. She was married to Paul Milton Jackson in 1946; he preceded her in death in 1997. She was employed by the VA Hospital for several years and later as a bookkeeper for Job Corps in Excelsior Springs. She and her husband lived in Excelsior Springs for more than 50 years, and three years ago she moved to St. Louis to be near her son. She was a member of Siloam Spring Baptist Church. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Frank. Survivors include a son, Roy Jackson, St. Louis; and four grandchildren, Richard Clifton, Kansas City, and Daniel Reynolds, Gregory Jackson and Timothy Jackson, all of St. Louis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at Siloam Spring Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Vern Jackson Sr.
Vern Arnold Jackson Sr., 92, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center. Mr. Jackson was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Butler, the son of James Thomas and Gladys Lena (Zinn) Jackson. He was married to Rosemary Grace Brown on Nov. 14, 1941; she survives. He moved to Excelsior Springs at a young age, living there and also in Lawson. He worked in various jobs, then later worked for General Motors before retiring in 1975. He also enjoyed farming. He was a member of Siloam Springs Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Delores Jackson; two brothers, Paul Jackson and James “Bud” Jackson; and two sisters, Lillian Elliott and Jean Barnes. In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Vern A. Jackson Jr., Lawson, Thomas O. Jackson, Excelsior Springs, and William E. Jackson, Holt; two daughters, Peggy Crooks and Patsy Barlow, both of Liberty; two brothers, William Jackson, Missouri City, and Delbert Jackson, Excelsior Springs; three sisters, Stella Thompson, Louise Duncan and Ann Conley, all of Excelsior Springs; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Siloam Springs Baptist Church.
Jonathan James
Jonathan James, 51, Ardmore, Okla., died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Purcell Municipal Hospital in Purcell, Okla. Mr. James was born Jan. 15, 1959, in Talihina, Okla., the son of Jonas and Lucinda (Early) James He had lived in Ardmore for the past year. He was married to Josephine Griffith on Oct. 31, 2008. He was a Native American artist, and they owned Giant Indian Art & Native Trades. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Darryl James and Jeremiah James. Survivors include his wife, Josephine James, of the home; father, Jonas James, Wright City, Okla.; mother, Lucinda James, Liberty, Mo.; son, Jonathan David “Jon Boy” Naltazan, Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter, Hollie Crystal “Gayle” James, Liberty, Mo.; stepson, Lukas Raleigh Steiner, Denton, Texas; two stepdaughters, Kellee Ray, Boynton Beach, Fla., and Desiree Michelle Steiner, Lewisville, Texas; brother, Johanson James, Kansas City, Mo.; five sisters, Joyce Lavern James, Liberty, Mo., Iris Conway, Houston, Texas, Ireta Bond, Broken Bow, Okla., and Jonell James and Jakki James, both of Joplin, Mo.; half-brother, Javier James, Broken Bow, Okla.; half-sister, Joni Newsome, Fresno, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. Scott Kelso
Scott Alan Kelso, 44, Kearney, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Liberty Hospital from complications following a heart attack. Mr. Kelso was born Sept. 19, 1965, in Kansas City, Kan. He was married to his wife, Susie, on May 12, 1990. For the past 15 years, he had been employed at Midwest Wholesale Hardware. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma (Hogue) Jones. Joanne Kersten, 68, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010. Ms. Kersten was on the faculty of the William Jewell College Nursing Department, retiring as the department’s chair in 2002. Jerry Lee Kincaid, 63, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010. Jerry was born on Oct. 1, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Robert Lee and Mary Ann (Brown) Kincaid. On Oct. 2, 1987, he married Nanci (McClanahan) Kincaid, who survives of the home. He served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW Post in Excelsior Springs, Mo., a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a member of Freedom of the Road Riders, and the Patriot Guard. Jerry enjoyed riding with his friends on his Harley Davidson motorcycle and hanging out at KC Cycle with his buddy, Kurt. He and his wife Nanci had owned and operated Healthy Life Choices in Excelsior Springs, Mo., for the last 15 years. Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by one stepson, Anthony Brown; and one brother, Stephen. Besides his wife, Nanci, Jerry is survived by one daughter, Tammy Morrison, Independence, Mo.; one son, Charles Kincaid and wife, Sheryl, of Orrick, Mo.; three stepsons, Ronald Brown and wife, Shari, of Fridley, Minn., Daniel Heaton and wife, Dorothy, of St. Joseph, Mo., and John Heaton and wife, Angie, of Horton, Kan.; one brother, Roy Kincaid and wife, Sharon, of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; one sister, Deborah Hayes, of Sedalia, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; an nine great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Jerry will be remembered by many as a loving family man, and a wonderful friend and neighbor. A Celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Paul Eugene Lane, 47, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Feb. 24, 2010, at his home. Paul was born on June 4, 1962, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., to Paul and Francine Lane. He was a lifelong Excelsior Springs area resident. He graduated from Excelsior Springs High School with the class of 1980. He attended college at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo., where he received his degree in criminal justice. He was employed for the past 20 years at Cross Midwest Tire Co. Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Francine, in 2006; and his first wife, Cindy Anne Hoover Lane, in 1994. Survivors include his wife, Susan Kay McCoy Lane, of the home; his children, Taylor Danielle Lane, Chelsea Anne Lane and Paul Thomas Lane, all of Excelsior Spring, Mo.; his father, Paul Lane Sr., of Brownsville, Texas, formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; two sisters, Shelly Henn (Bill), of Liberty, Mo., and Patty Hood (Johnny), of Holt, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. Paul was an avid outdoorsman, he loved sports and if you knew Paul you knew him as a friend. Paul was known for his outgoing wit and humor. He was a loving son, husband and father as well as a friend to many. The family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at First United Methodist Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Mary “Theresa” Moore, 54, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away at home Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010. Theresa was born Mary Theresa Johannes on April 27, 1955, in Independence, Kan. Theresa graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1973, and three years later from UMKC with a degree in mathematics. Her entire career of 21 years was spent at Airborne Express, where she rose to the rank of District Field Service Manager by the time she was 28. She was an extremely good judge of business talent and many people got their start through her mentorship. She retired in 1997 to raise her family and reveled in the joy of nurturing and caring for them. Theresa will be remembered for her undefeated spirit and her enthusiasm for life. She is survived by her husband, Ed, and daughter, Rachel, of the home; and son, Greg (Kim), grandson, Tristan, and stepson, David Bendett, all of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is also survived by her parents, Joseph and Margaret Mary Johannes; siblings, Julie Arthur (Larry), Sara Brown (Scott), Barbara Nemechek, Joseph Johannes, Jr, (Cindy), Martha Johannes, Chris Johannes (Gay), Margie Cangelosi (Sam) and Phil Johannes (Laura), along with many loving nieces and nephews. Katherine Hogan Nolan, 50, Lancaster, Pa., died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at the Hospice of Lancaster County. Mrs. Nolan was born Dec. 1, 1959, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Matthew and Dorothy Hagan. She was married to Frank Nolan on Jan. 31, 1988. She spent 29 years with the same employer, initially called Ford Motor Credit Company and now known as CNH Capital Inc. She lived in Overland Park, Kan., from 1959 to 1979, Suisun City, Calif., from 1989 to 1999, and in Lancaster, Pa., from 1999 to the present. Survivors include her husband, Frank Nolan, Lancaster, Pa.; son, Matthew Nolan, Lancaster, Pa.; father, Matthew Hogan, Cameron, Mo.; brother, William Hogan, Sacramento, Calif.; and sister, Patricia Mort, Smithville, Mo. Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 10, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Lancaster, Pa. An additional service for the family will be held in April at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, Calif.
Effie O’Dell
Effie Henson O’Dell, 99, Richmond, Mo., (formerly of Orrick, Mo.), died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation in Richmond. Mrs. O’Dell was born October 29, 1910, in Mosby, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Hoover) Henson. She was married to William Jewell O’Dell Sr., who preceded her in death in 1976. She was a homemaker and had also previously worked for Pepsi Cola and Campbell’s Meat Locker. She was of the Southern Baptist faith. In addition to her husband, She was preceded in death by a son, William Jewell O’Dell Jr.; a daughter, Roberta Ann O’Dell; and seven siblings. Survivors include a son, James Russell O’Dell, Largo, Fla.; a sister, Anna Means, Richmond; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in the O’Dell Cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the funeral home.
Luetta Pederson
Luetta Jean Pederson, 82, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, in Riverside, Calif. Mrs. Pederson was born Oct. 9, 1927, to Otto and Ida Wicklund Worley of Bucklin. She attended Excelsior Springs (Mo.) High School and the Salvation Army College in Chicago, Ill. While there, she met her husband, Leroy Pederson; they were married on Aug. 6, 1951. They were ministers in the Salvation Army in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Kansas City, Indiana and Michigan, then for health reasons went to California from 1976 until they retired in 1991. She was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Cindy Lou; her parents, Otto and Ida Worley; a sister, Velma Harrington; and two brothers, Eguene and Marvin Worley. Survivors include her husband, Leroy Pederson, of the home; three sons, Richard, Robert and Scotty; three grandchildren, Jessica, Timothy and Samantha; one great-granddaughter, Star; one sister, Aldine Creason; and one brother, Marvin Worley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Salvation Army Church in Riverside, Calif., after which she will be taken to Chicago to be with her baby daughter.
Julia Petty
Julia Yancey Petty, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010. Ms. Petty was born Nov. 10, 1923, the only child of William and Minnie Yancey of Liberty, Mo. She was married to Eldon “Jack” Petty on May 5, 1945. She was a Navy wife and was also a published poet and musician; she recorded an album in the early 1970s. Richard Gilbert Prichard, 67, Richmond, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Prichard was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Robert Carl “Bob” and Mabel Marie (Hill) Prichard. He was married to Betty Frances Franklin on Jan. 8, 1982; she survives of the home. He had been employed by Avsco Plastics and Ferguson Manufacturing. For several years he owned and operated his own business, Prichard Company in Richmond. He was a member of the Old Union Christian Union Church near Lawson. He was preceded in death by his parents. In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Julie Baker and Connie Phipps, both of Richmond, and Cathy Wright, Excelsior Springs; one stepdaughter, Cheryl Marrant, Orrick; one stepson, Jeff Palmer, Richmond; one sister, Pat “Trisha” Thompson, Richmond; two brothers, Robert Prichard, Rayville, and David Prichard, Paso Robles, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 1, at Polley Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in Crowley Cemetery at Rayville. Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 28, at the funeral home. Todd Scott
Todd Jason Scott, 47, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Scott was born Jan. 11, 1963, the son of Ross and Bunnie (Ewart) Scott. He was a lifelong member of the Liberty Methodist Church. He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt quail and pheasant. He also loved motorcycles, working on computers, rock and roll music and playing guitar and bass. He even composed several songs in his later years. He was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents. Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Suzanne Scott, Excelsior Springs, and Judy Heiffus, Independence; a niece; cousins and a special friend, Rev. Bob Shane, Excelsior Springs. There will be a memorial at a later date, with interment in the family plot in the Blockton, Iowa, cemetery. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Arthur Smith
Arthur R. Smith, 65, Sabetha, Kan., died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at the Apostolic Christian Home. Mr. Smith was married to Teresa DeGroodt and spent 38 years teaching physical education in the Kansas City, Kan., School District. He had also run for Congress, and in 1988 was the Kansas City, Kan., High School Soccer Coach of the Year. Survivors include his wife, Connie Smith, Kansas City, Kan.; one son, Arthur C. Smith, Liberty, Mo.; a brother, John Berggren, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Alice Stone, Raytown, Mo.; and two grandchildren with a third on the way. Linda Lou Walter, 69, Smithville, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Doctors Hospital in Edinberg, Texas. Mrs. Walter was born July 18, 1940, in Kansas City, the daughter of Don and Geneva McTaggart. She retired from Sunshine Biscuit Company after 30 years of service. When her husband retired from TWA, they became “winter Texans” for six years in Pharr, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, Don McTaggart, in 1990. Dewey Thomas Way, 62, went home to be with our Lord Feb. 22, 2010. Dewey was lovingly cared for by his wife, family , friends, church members and Northcare Hospice. He was born Feb. 24, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo., to Alva T. and Nancy Rose (Mace) Way. Dewey graduated from Missouri City School and Liberty High School. He worked for Stone Container for 26 years. He was a life member of Missouri City Assembly of God, where he loved caring for the church and doing maintenance work, until it closed in 1993. In 1999 he became a member of Moment of Truth Baptist Church until the Lord took him home. Dewey loved being a part of God’s family, making music for the Lord and doing any work he could do for the church. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Jess Henry Spear, Maxine Huey, Catherine Sutherland and Earnest Way. He was also preceded in death by his beloved Pastor Fred Coonce who went home to the Lord the same day. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shirley JoAnn Way; a niece, Georgia Brinkley; his siblings, Elizabeth Verell (Phil), Joe Spear (Anna), Elva Schneider, Francis Sims, Carol Wharton and David Way (Linda); brothers in-law, Paul Lane and George Lane (Dixie); sisters in-law, JoAnn Perry and Wanda Wells (Mike); and his aunt, Sherry Mace. Dewey was much loved by family, friends and his church family. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at The Moment of Truth Baptist Church, 310 S.
