Dorothy Adams
Dorothy D. Adams, 86, Liberty, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009. Ms. Adams lived in Freeman, Mo., before moving to the Gladstone/Liberty area in 1990. Survivors include her husband, Harry Adams, Liberty; one son, Richard Adams, Kearney; two daughters, Marilyn Massard, Highland Ranch, Colo., and Marsha Clapp, Brazoria, Texas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Freeman Presbyterian Church in Freeman. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial in Freeman Cemetery. Arrangements are through Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Presbyterian Church or Freeman Presbyterian Church.
Marcheta Allen
Marcheta E. Alvis Allen, 83, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009. Ms. Allen was born July 28, 1925, in Kirksville, the daughter of Zester H. and Ruth (Ryon) Hatfield. She was a longtime Kansas City area resident. Survivors include a daughter, Lola Leggio; a son, Sherrill Alvis; a brother, Herbert Hatfield; a sister, Joanna Neal; four grandchildren, Eric Dierkens, Christopher Dierkens, Janelle Greenhill, and Thomas Alvis; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Charter Funerals/Northland Chapel, 77 NE 72nd Street, Gladstone, with a visitation beginning at noon. Inurnment will be in Marshfield Cemetery in Marshfield, Mo., at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Barbara Andrews
Barbara Joy Andrews, 65, Independence, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009. Funeral services were scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Blue Springs Cemetery in Blue Springs. Visitation was held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home.
Maxine Byrd
Maxine Edna Byrd, 89, Lawson, Mo. (formerly of Richmond, Calif.), died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Lawson Manor in Lawson, Mo. Mrs. Byrd was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Wileaka, Okla. She later moved to California, where she lived in the Richmond and San Pablo areas for more than 40 years. Maxine worked in the shipyards as a weld checker on Liberty ships during World War II. Later she was employed as an accountant with Kaiser-Permanente for 16 years before retiring in the early 1980s. She was of the Baptist faith. She was married to Paul Byrd, who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Paula Brown and Max Byrd. Survivors include one son, Tim Byrd, San Pablo, Calif.; a daughter, Pam Castillo, Pinole, Calif.; a grandson, Steven Brown, Lawson; one granddaughter, Lisa Knox, Venicia, Calif.; and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cremation. There are no public services scheduled at this time. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Lawson, Mo.
Irene Carrel
Delores Irene Carrel, 73, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009. Mrs. Carrel was born Dec. 19, 1935, the daughter of Silas and Beryl Smith. She graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1954 and attended Central Missouri State College. She worked as an executive secretary for AmerenUE for 41 years retiring in 1998. She was married to C.D. Carrel on March 11, 1956, and they enjoyed 52 years together. After retirement, she worked in the Excelsior Springs Hospital's gift shop as a volunteer. She was active in several organizations. She was also active in Excelsior Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.D. Carrel, on July 5, 2008. Survivors include an aunt, Margaret Corbett; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at Excelsior Springs Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Liberty. Arrangements are through Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to Excelsior Springs Baptist Church.
Carol Comley
Carol Rivas Comley, 69, Liberty, Mo. (formerly of Carrollton, Mo.), died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Comley, was born Jan. 23, 1940, in Carrollton, the daughter of Bernard and Gladys McCormack Cahill. She worked as an administrative assistant in the insurance business for more than 30 years. She was married to John Comley on Sept. 22, 2006. Survivors include her husband, John Comley, of the home; her mother, Gladys Cahill, Carrollton; two daughters, Staci Marie Rivas, Kearney, and Kristi LaMothe, Mission Hills, Kan.; one brother, L.J. Cahill, Carrollton; four sisters, Jane Atherton and Wanda Wilson, both of Carrollton, Roberta Wolford, Independence, and Mary Helen Johnson, Omaha, Neb.; and one grandson with another grandchild on the way. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville, with Chaplain Tom Blake officiating. The family will receive friends after the service until 4 p.m. Graveside services and burial will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at East Slope Cemetery in Riverside. Memorial contributions may be made to Keith Worthington Chapter of ALS or NorthCare Hospice, in care of the funeral home.
*Helen Corum
Helen Lucretia Corum, 85, Liberty, Mo., passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009. Helen was born March 22, 1923 in Excelsior Springs, Mo., to Howard Holden Morse and Helen Lyman (Robinson) Morse. Her father served in WWI with General March and General Goethals. He was overseas five times, and was with General Pershing when the armistice was signed. Helen was the granddaughter of Colonel Erastus Livingston "E.L." Morse and Kate D. (Lemon) Morse of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Henry Darius Robinson and Helen Lyman (Holliday) Robinson of Chicago, Ill. E.L. "Liv" Morse was a founding father of Excelsior Springs. He was involved in starting many services and businesses, including the Elms Hotel. Liv was influential in Republican politics, and in 1908 entertained the Vice President of the United States, Charles Warren Fairbanks. Helen graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1942. She married Frank Eugene "Gene" Corum from Kearney, Mo., in 1945. Gene served in WWII. They settled in Liberty and had two sons. Helen worked as a bookkeeper for a time at Percy Kent Bag Co. in Kansas City. She enjoyed being a homemaker, taking delight in her children, gardening, cooking and lifelong friends in her women's neighborhood club, the "Brookettes" of Brookview Gardens. She had a great fondness for animals, from her childhood German Shepherd, Fritz, to her many small dogs and one stray cat later in life. Helen was known for her quiet and polite demeanor. Her devotion to her church for over 45 years was expressed through her weekly service to the Altar Guild and quilting with the Women's Bazaar Group. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, often taking her sons with her to assist. Helen enjoyed several types of needlework, and was always working on a project. She enjoyed bowling in women's leagues. A favorite memory of her son is working on crossword puzzles together. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Eugene "Gene" Corum, on Nov. 14, 1986, and her son, John Holden Corum of Blue Springs on Nov. 9, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her four siblings, John Frederick Lovett (Loraine) of Arizona, twin brother Henry Livingston "Bud" Morse (Joanne) of North Kansas City, Edwin Robinson Morse (Joan) of California, and Harriet Virginia King (Peter) of Chatsworth, California. Helen is survived by her son, Michael Eugene Corum (Sonya) of St. Louis; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four nieces; and two nephews. Her grandchildren are Stacie Waller (Kevin) of Buckner, Marly McLanahan of Concordia, Debbie Corum of Blue Springs, John "Jared" Corum (Kristen) of Independence, Robert "Jason" Corum of Blue Springs, Callie Corum of Kansas City, and Ryan Corum of Kansas City. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home, 119 E. Franklin Street, Liberty, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Grace Episcopal Church, 520 South 291 Highway, Liberty, Mo. Burial will follow at Glenridge Cemetery, Liberty. Trudy Davis
Trudy Lynn (Campbell) Davis, 46, Liberty, Mo. (formerly of Hardin/Norborne, Mo.), died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation was held Sunday at the funeral home.
John Denison Sr.
John M. Denison Sr., 82, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. Mr. Denison was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Macon County, the son of John and Edna (Davis) Denison. He lived in the Liberty area for more than 50 years. He was a home builder and owned and operated John Denison Construction in the Northland before he retired. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, D. June Deniosn, in 2000. Survivors include four sons, John Denison Jr., Joe Denison, James Denison and Jerry Schwoyer; his sister, Mary Martha Turner; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation was scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m., also at the chapel. Burial with military honors in Glenridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
Mildred Douglas
Mildred Thelma Douglas, 65, Liberty, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, of cancer. Ms. Douglas was born Dec. 20, 1943, in Persia, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Loretta Pauley Sandbothe. She retired as a business analyst for Ford Motor Company. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church for 35 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gail Douglas; and son, Scott Douglas. Survivors include daughters, Brenda DePalma and Susan Newton, both of Liberty, and Julie Johnson, Kansas City; brother, Joseph Sandbothe, Council Bluffs, Iowa; sisters, Frances Millsap and Genny Bassett, both of Minnesota; and five grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at St. James Catholic Church in Liberty; burial in Resurrection North Cemetery in Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the church. Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Irvin Middleton Farmer, 78, Kearney, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at home. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney. Arrangements are through Marts Memorial Services in Kansas City.
"Bill" Foster
William "Bill" Woodard Foster, 77, St. Joseph, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at his home. Mr. Foster was born Oct. 17, 1931, in Forest City, the son of Keith Dewey and Carrie Foster. He worked as a brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring in 1991 after 40 years of service. He was a member of the South Side Fall Festival Committee, serving as the official photographer for many years. He was also the 1995 Grand Marshal. He was a Christian. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Keith "Coop" Foster. Survivors include two sons, Greg Foster, St. Joseph, and William "Skip" L. Foster, Excelsior Springs; a brother, Henry Royce Foster, St. Joseph; a sister, Jeane Crouse, Mound City; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; .A funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 14, at Rupp Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Oregon, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Side Fall Festival or the American Cancer Society.
*"Tony" Glasscock
Thornton "Tony" Robert Glasscock of Pleasant Valley, Mo, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009. Tony was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Aug. 14, 1922, the only child of Robert Shirley and Sybil Glasscock. He served our country as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps 4th Division during World War II. He was employed by Cole National Optical for 40 years and at Family Vision Center in Excelsior Springs until retiring in 2008. Tony married Nell Corine Wright on Oct. 30, 1948, and raised four children. He is survived by his wife of 60 years; son, Douglas Glasscock, of Kansas City; daughters, Donna Jones of Colorado, Karen Bridges of Lee1s Summit, and Joyce Capps of Excelsior Springs; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, Mo. Arrangements are through Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home in Kansas City.

Joseph Edward Grymala III, 28 days, Richmond, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. "Trudy" Halterman
Gertrude Rose "Trudy" Halterman, 55, Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Ms. Halterman was born Dec. 1, 1953, in Kansas City, the daughter of Matthew Harrison and Lula June (Bradley) Pigg. She was a member of the Mo-Kan Gospel Singers. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jackie Halterman in 2007 and Joseph Calvin Farrar Sr. in 1994. Survivors include one son, Joseph Calvin Farrar Jr., Hermitage; two daughters, Becky Faye Leonard and Maria Lynn Morton, both of Hermitage; her mother, Lula Pigg, Richmond; two brothers, Austin Pigg and William Pigg; three sisters, Marcia Farris, Virginia Graham and Joyce Lackey; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at New Salem Funeral Home in Independence; burial in New Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Salem Chapel.
"Jo Jo" Hardwick
Josephine Ann "Jo Jo" Hardwick, 70, of Excelsior Springs, Mo.(formerly of Lexington, Mo., and Polo, Mo.), passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 at Excelsior Springs Nursing & Rehab. Josephine Ann Wolf Hardwick was born June 9, 1938, in Lexington, the daughter of David Harvey and Anna Minnie Elizabeth Kiso Wolf. She was a member of St. Paul Church of Napoleon in Napoleon, Mo., and had been a waitress at Trails Inn Restaurant in Liberty. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Howard David Hardwick; and a sister, Dorothy Hitzman. Surviving are three children: Mike Payne and wife, Jackie, Richmond, Christine Calvert and husband, Lindell, Lexington, and Kelli Rice and husband, Jim, Excelsior Springs; one brother, Harvey Wolf, of the state of California; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at St. Paul Church of Napoleon. Burial in St. Paul Cemetery. Jeffery Allen Heitman, 17, Kansas City, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009. Jeffery was a student in his junior year at the Liberty Academy. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Paula and Shawn Chesney, of the home; his father and stepmother, Pat and Dixie Heitman, Camden; a sister, Melissa Sanford, Jacksonville, S.C.; stepbrother, Jimmy Heitman, Excelsior Springs; and maternal stepgrandmother, Zola Chesney, Kansas City. Funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at the House of Joy, 34032 W. 94th St., Richmond. Interment in Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty. Betty Jean Huettenmueller
Betty Jean Huettenmueller, 86, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009. Ms. Huettenmueller was born Jan. 6, 1923, in Tulsa, Okla., the daughter of Charles and Connie Broad. She worked in several office jobs in the Kansas City area, but her most rewarding occupation was as a stay-at-home wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Huettenmueller. Survivors include one son, Ron Huettenmueller, Excelsior Springs; one daughter, Cheryl Lenz; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Mt. Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home in Kansas City, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m.; burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Mary Huffman
Mary Elizabeth Huffman, 72, Richmond, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Huffman was born Oct. 11, 1936, in Eldorado, the daughter of Archie and Ruby Clare (Rash) O'Dell. She was married to Floyd Aire Huffman on April 2, 1955; he preceded her in death on July 11, 2003. Following her marriage she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Richmond. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include one daughter, Clara Osborne, Richmond; two sons, Floyd Huffman and Roy Huffman, both of Richmond; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Liberty Cemetery, north of Warrensburg. There will be no public visitation. DeWayne Isom
Jerry DeWayne Isom, 90, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Mr. Isom was born July 2, 1918, in Athens, Ala., the son of Jerry and Ella (White) Isom. He moved to Excelsior Springs as a baby and lived there his entire life. He was married to Wanda Maidment in 1939. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Elms and the American Legion. He worked as an insurance agent for Reliable and Prudential. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Wanda; two children, Mike Isom and wife, Janis, Miami, Fla., and Diane Schmidt and husband, Gary, Excelsior Springs; one sister, Eileen Kelly and husband, Loyd, Miami, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at the United Methodist Church in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Donald Ivy
Donald Ivy, 68, Kearney, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Ivy was born Nov. 1, 1940, in Holt, the son of Frank and Violet Ivy. He was a member of Arley United Methodist Church. He worked for Pence Heating and Cooling in the Kearney and Smithville area for more than 40 years. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Liz Ivy, of the home; three sons, Bryan Ivy, Platte City, and Brad Ivy and Kirk Ivy, both of Kansas City; two brothers, Jim Ivy, Kansas City, and Gary Ivy, Holt; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Arley United Methodist Church in Kearney. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Marilyn Jones
Marilyn J. Jones, 72, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Mo. Ms. Jones was born Nov. 13, 1936, in Kansas City, the daughter of Alvin Earl and June (Heflin) Shockley. She was married to Myron R. Jones on Oct. 31, 1952; he preceded her in death June 1, 2006. Following her marriage she worked for Montgomery Ward for several years. From 1967 to 1970, she and her husband began to establish M & M Sales in Excelsior Springs, which they operated until her husband's death in 2006. She closed the store in November 2006. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Patty Martin. Survivors include two daughters, Penny Hamdi, Kansas City, and Cindy Bell, Missouri City, Texas; one sister, Linda Hiatt, Rayville; one brother, Alvin Shockley Jr., Kansas City; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Cremation.
Steve Koontz
Stephen Wade "Steve" Koontz, 50, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at his home. Mr. Koonts was born July 9, 1958, in San Jose, Calif., the son of Claude Melton and Louise Hilda (Groves) Koontz. He went to work in construction and moved to Excelsior Springs 10 years ago. At the time of his death, he was employed with Sellers & Marquis Roofing Company of Kansas City. He was preceded in death by his mother and two brothers, Doug Koontz and Larry Koontz. Survivors include a son, Nick Koontz, Excelsior Springs; one sister, Billie Garcia, Modesto, Calif.; and one brother, Eddie Koontz, Modesto, Calif. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Eagles Lodge, 14305 Y Hwy., Excelsior Springs. Cremation. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

JoAnne Larkin, 88, Richmond, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009. Visitation was scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 6, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel in Raytown. Donald Love
Donald J. Love, 57, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Excelsior Springs Hospital. Mr. Love was born Jan. 4, 1952, at his parents' home in rural Clay County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Aaron. Survivors include his wife, Anita, of the home; a son, Donald Love, of the home; daughter, Jennifer Love, of the home; daughter, Stephanie Summers and husband, Michael, Excelsior Springs; sisters, Becky Campbell, Paty Love, Linda West, Cynthia Atkins and Karol Clark; brothers, Mike Love and Curtis Biggs; and five grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at the home of his sister in Excelsior Springs. Forrest L. Marshall, 78, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009, at Boone Hospital Center. Mr. Forrest taught vocational agriculture in Orrick for four years after earning his degree in 1956. Survivors include his wife, three daughters, two sons, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at Fairview United Methodist Church in Columbia.
Reba McCormick
Reba L. McCormick, 55, Lawson, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Ms. McCormick was born Dec. 19, 1953, in Kansas City, the daughter of Robert and Betty Brock Barnes. Survivors include one son, James McCormick Jr., Kansas; a sister, Cindy Cox, Lawson; a brother, Robert Barnes, Olathe, Kan.; and six grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Old Union Christian Union Church in Lawson, with a gathering of friends to follow. Cremation. Donna Meyers
Donna A. Meyers, 62, Riverside, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, in Riverside. Ms. Meyers was born Oct. 28, 1946, in Independence. Survivors include her children, LaDonna Woods, Daisy Woods, Timothy Woods and Oliver Woods; and six grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Community of Christ Church, 7615 N. Platte Purchase Dr., Kansas City. There will be a gathering of friends following the services. Geraldine Nelson
Geraldine Nelson, 80, Independence, Mo. (formerly of Kearney, Mo.), died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at Independence Manor in Independence. Ms. Nelson was born Aug. 18, 1928, in Kearney, the daughter of Harley and Epsy Catherine Harmon. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Kearney. She had been a bookkeeper for Kearney Trust Company. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James; six sisters; and one brother. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, 208 S. Jefferson, Kearney, Mo., with graveside services following at 11:15 a.m. At Mt. Frances O'Dell
Frances Lorene O'Dell, 69, formerly of Richmond, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at her home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Ms. O'Dell was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Rayville, the daughter of Archie W. and Ruby C. (Rash) O'Dell. She immensely enjoyed spending time with her loving family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Masters; and one brother, John O'Dell. Survivors include her daughter, Ruby (Lawrence) Shook, Excelsior Springs; sister, Mary Huffman, Hardin; and three grandchildren. Cremation. No services are planned. Joseph Randazzo
Joseph Randazzo, 59, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at KU Medical Center. Mr. Randazzo was born July 21, 1949, in St. Louis, the son of Frank and Ann (Ognibene) Randazzo. He worked most of his adult life as a painter.He was married to Naomi (Brown) Randazzo on May 6, 1989; she survives of the home. They attended the Lawson Assembly of God Church. In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Ann Randazzo, Belleville, Ill.; one son, Joseph Randazzo Jr., Excelsior Springs; three daughters, Valerie Jenette Hoffecker, Excelsior Springs, Tina Renee Cook, Lawson, and Jaime Walden, Excelsior Springs; one brother, Frank Jr.; and five sisters, Sandy, Paula, Rosie, Mary and Annette, all of Illinois; and 10 Grandchildren. Cremation. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Lawson Assembly of God Church. Interment in the Lawson Cemetery, Lawson, Mo. Charles Savage
Charles Eugene Savage, 68, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009, after a brief bout with cancer. Mr. Savage moved to the Excelsior Springs, Mo., area from Pattonsburg, Mo., in the early 1980s. He was a painting instructor at the Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center, leaving there to work at the Clay County Courthouse in building maintenance. He also worked at Engine Master until their relocation to Texas, not willing to leave behind beloved grandkids Amanda K., Tim K. and Bethany L. Gene, was a great stand-in Poppy. He will be missed by a lot of people in this area. He leaves behind longtime friend Evelyn Kennedy; her family, John Kennedy, Amanda Kennedy, Tim Kennedy, Bethany Long, Sharon Longsdorf; three sons, Darrell, Randy and David Savage; and a long list of others. No services are planned in this area. He will be laid to rest with his family in the family cemetery in Pattonsburg.
Kim Simmons
Kimberly Ann Simmons, 58, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Kimberly was born July 12, 1950 to parents Clifton and Virginia Rose (Templeton) Bell in Kansas City, Mo. On October 7, 1972 she married David Lloyd Simmons in Kansas City, Mo. Kimberly worked as a sports reporter for the Excelsior Springs Standard. She attended Vibbard Christian Union Church, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Kimberly was also a talented vocalist, guitarist, author and photographer. She is survived by husband, David L. Simmons, of the home; daughter, Jenny Lee Ann Scherfenberg and husband, Eric, Harrisonville, Mo.; son, Wesley Charles Simmons and wife, Amy, St. Joseph, Mo.; mother, Virginia Bell, Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Leslie Lemon and husband, Larry, Lee's Summit, Mo.; and grandchildren, Andrea Simmons, Jason Simmons and Bella Scherfenberg. Kimberly was preceded in death by her father; son, Jason David Simmons; and brother, Christopher Bell. Funeral services for Kimberly will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the Pisgah Baptist Church in Excelsior Springs, Mo. The visitation will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2009 at the Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial will take place at the Polley Cemetery, also in Excelsior Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Lifted Up from the Deep Publishing Fund.

Sarah Martha Sisson-Hoyer, 66, Independence, Mo., passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009. Sarah was born on June 18, 1942, in Excelsior Springs, Mo., the daughter of James and Juanita (Petree) O'Dell. She was a member of the Old Union Christian Union Church of Lawson, Mo., as a young girl. She ran her own business, Sarah's Cakes and Catering, out of her home. In 2008, she retired from Family Care of Eastern Jackson County. She had also worked for T.R. Baldwin, M.D., in Excelsior Springs, Mo., for a number of years. Sarah was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend who always put others before herself. She took great delight in her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Sarah was preceded in death by her father, James O'Dell. Survivors include her husband, Garry G. Hoyer, of the home; her mother, Juanita O'Dell; her children, Michael Sisson and Melinda Gregory; her siblings, Mary Kindred, Charles O'Dell and Judith Sears; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. The Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home. Edna Mae Stanley, 52, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed from this life on Feb. 27, 2009, at the Valley Manor Rehab Center, where she resided for the past five years. Edna was born Aug. 21, 1956, in Independence, Mo. She was employed by The Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City and H&R Block. In earlier years she was employed by Mid-America Cinema at several locations and Bethany Hospital. She was a former member of MADD. Edna was a member of Susquehanna Baptist Church in Independence, a graduate of Fort Osage High School and has an associate's degree in accounting from the Kansas City School of Business. Her survivors include her mother, Edna Stanley, Independence; sisters, Teresa Tribble and husband, Val, Holt, Barbara Johnson, Grain Valley, Ethel Loftin, Independence, Sandra Romines and husband, Dennis, Grain Valley, Willa, Kansas, Libby Hunter, North Kansas City, Debbie Proffitt, Holt, Nancy McBride, Braymer, and Mary Frances Catalano, Lee1s Summit; brothers, Mike Hunter and wife, Sharon, Lee's Summit, Tom Hunter, New Jersey, and Ted Hunter, Tennessee; eight nephews, Paul V. Tribble, Excelsior Springs, and Scott, Jerry, L. Mike, Rick, Kevin and Bill, of the greater Kansas City area, and Johnny, Iraq; 10 nieces, Kerri, Jenny, Vicky, Renee, Robbin, Shawn, Brandy, Kim and Belinda, of the greater Kansas City area; 11 great nieces; seven great nephews; three great-great nephews; and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Harmon N. Stanley; great-niece, Valerie Ann Tribble; brothers, John Hunter, Bill Hunter and Jim Combs; and sister, Brenda Hunter. A Celebration of Life will be held in Edna's honor from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence.
Barbara Stubbs
Barbara Jean Stubbs, 52, Cameron, Mo. (formerly of Kearney, M0.), died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Stubbs was born April 26, 1956, in Elizabeth, N.J., the daughter of Gertrude Mary (Lear) Layton. She was married to Kevin Ray Stubbs on April 23, 2004; he survives. Barbara was a registered nurse and had been employed by Excelsior Springs Medical Center. She attended Bible Baptist Church in Cameron. She was preceded in death by her mother. In addition to her husband, survivors include five daughters, Julia Lenz, Liberty, Jennifer Schoemaker, Kearney, Jessica Bruhn, Cameron, Joyce Mumm, Trimble, and Nicole Stubbs, of the home; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the funeral home.
Eva Swafford
Eva Nell Swafford, 84, Topeka, Kan., died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009. Mrs. Swafford was born Sept. 4, 1924, in Clay County, Mo., the daughter of Roy C. and Myrtle Eva (Titus) Holt. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post No. 1650 and volunteered at the VA Hospital in Topeka. She was married to Paul W. Swafford on Sept. 26, 1942, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1994. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Charles Swafford. Survivors include her son, Dave Swafford; her daughter, Merry Glover; five grandchildren, Mark, Ian, Megan, Brett, and Zachary; and a great-grandson, Nicholas. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1320 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Topeka. Mrs. Swafford will lie in state after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
"Betty" Thompson
Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Thompson, 84, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Mrs. Thompson was born Sept. 7, 1924, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Frank W. and Hilda (Richard) Ragen. She was married to Theadore "Ted" R. Thompson on Aug. 7, 1954. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Excelsior Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Theadore "Ted" R. Thompson, of the home; and son, Richard R. Thompson, Liberty. Cremation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Excelsior Springs. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, with a rosary beginning at 10:30 a.m., also at the church. Burial will be at Resurrection North Cemetery in Kansas City. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.
Robert Trayler
Robert Franklin Trayler, 83, Liberty, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Trayler was born March 19, 1925, in Excelsior Springs, the son of Etheridge Eugene and Marjorie (Ewing) Trayler. He was married to Geraldine Clark on Oct. 19, 1949; she preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 1979. He was in the construction business, and owned and operated R.F. Tayler Construction until his retirement in 1999. He was instrumental in starting CRAVE (Content Relevance & Accuracy of Vocational Education) and had also worked for Habitat for Humanity. He was a member of Prathersville Baptist Church, and also attended the Christian Union church in Liberty. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Franklin Trayler Jr., on June 6, 1976. Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Walters, Excelsior Springs; four grandchildren, Bree Yeates, Shana Nippert, Robbie Clevenger and Zach Clevenger; and two great-grandchildren, Brooke Yeates and Todd Yeates. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 2, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial with military honors will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
George Troutman
George L. Trouman, 83, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at the Veterans Home in Cameron, Mo., where he resided. After Mr. Troutman returned home from service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he and his wife, the former Mary Lou Nolker, lived in Lawson. During this time, he worked as a home contractor. He later moved to Warsaw and retired in Cameron. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Philo Troutman; a son, George David Troutman, on April 27, 1978; and a stepson, Everett Vaughn, on Dec. 7, 2007. Survivors include his wife, Edna (Peebles-Vaughn), of the home; his mother, rankie (Bales) Hiatt, Kalispell, Mont.; his sister, Betty Scoggins, Kalispell, Mont.; four sons, Dan, Tom and Royce, all of Excelsior Springs, and Faron, Gladstone; two stepsons, Ernie Vaughn, Cameron, and Eddie Vaughn, Savannah; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. He was laid to rest on Friday, Feb. 13, at Woodland Cemetery near Excelsior Springs.
"Bill" Trussell
William Emmett Trussell, 62, Orrick, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009. Mr. Trussell, a Vietnam Navy veteran, is survived by a brother, Robert Lee Trussell, and other relatives. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty.
Lola Warren
Lola Ellen Warren, 88, Richmond, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Mrs. Warren was born March 3, 1920, in Butler, the daughter of William and Emma (Sweets) Brown. She was married to Rev. John Wesley Warren on May 29, 1939; he preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 2004. She had been employed by Wentworth and had also done domestic work in various homes and was a homemaker in her own home. She was a minister1s wife and had served in numerous pastorates in the A.M.E. Church with her husband, the Rev. Warren. She was a life-long member of the A.M.E. denomination and a member of Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Richmond for more than 50 years. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Survivors include three daughters, Lola Warren and Emma Williams, both of Richmond, and Helen Hauck, Terra Haute, Ind.; one son, John Warren Jr., Richmond; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, at the Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Richmond. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Richmond.
Edward Welch
Edward Wayne Welch, 61, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel in Osceola; burial with full military honors in Pleasant Springs Cemetery near El Dorado Springs. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary J. Wille, 78, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following an illness of several months. Ms. Wille was born Dec. 20, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Arthur Adam Kneller and Iona Lena Isley Kneller. She married Vernon Wille on May 20, 1954, in Lawson, Mo., and he preceded her in death in April 1991. Mary grew up in Lawson, Mo., and graduated from Excelsior Springs High School in 1948. She received her master's degree in special education from Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg, and her undergraduate degree in elementary education from CMSU. She worked as special education teacher at Ruskin High School in Hickman Mills for nine years. In 1972, she and Vernon moved to Liberal, Mo. She began working at the Nevada State Hospital as a habilitation supervisor until her retirement. Following retirement, she taught for two years at Walker High School in Walker, Mo. Mary was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Survivors include one son, William A. Wille, Salina, Kan.; one daughter, Mary Lynn Wille, of the home in Nevada; two granddaughters, Hanna Gregory and Emily Gregory, both of Houstonia, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and beloved dog "Rosie." She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Martha Wille Gregory, in 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, Mo., with Steve Russ officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada, Mo. Friends may call from now until the hour of the service, and the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday evening, Feb. 15, at the funeral home. Gene Yack
Gene Yack, 88, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009. Mr. Yack was a veteran of the Army and a retired Excelsior Springs police officer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie. Survivors include three sons, Larry, Barry and Garry Yack; and two stepdaughters, Earlene and Charlene. Graveside services will be held privately.
