Cecelia Anderson
Cecelia Marie “Cissy” Gramlich Anderson, 83, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at her home. Ms. Anderson was born March 2, 1924, in Cooper County, the daughter of Ollie Frank and Stella Catherine (Weimholt) Gramlich. She spent her entire career in retail shoe sales as a buyer and salesperson for Emery-Byrd-Thayer and later Woolf Brothers in Kansas City. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Anderson; a brother, Estil “Boots” Gramlich; and an infant sister, Norma Lee Gramlich. Survivors include her brother, Vincent “Punkin” Gramlich, Kansas City; her sister, Shirley Ann Gramlich Knipp, Liberty; and other relatives. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty, where a scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at St. Raphael Church. Interment will take place at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery in Clear Creek. Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Hospital Hospice.

Geraldine Aull
Geraldine Lucille (Haight) Aull, 92, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at Cameron Regional Medical Center in Cameron, Mo. Ms. Aull was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Antrim, Penn., the daughter of Arthur and Mary Alice Sease Haight. She was married to Forrest J. Aull Sr. on Feb. 14, 1946; he preceded her in death on July 13, 1986. She had been a public health nurse in Washington, D.C. and New York City. Mr. and Mrs. Aull came to Excelsior Springs, then lived in Nitro, W.V., New Orleans, La., and St. Louis before returning to Excelsior Springs, where they retired in 1970. She was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church. Prior to entering the hospital she had been a resident at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Cameron. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Alice Douglas, on July 27, 2007. Survivors include two sons, Forrest J. Aull Jr. and John Ray Aull, both of Excelsior Springs; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. An Eastern Star service was held at the beginning of the service. The family was scheduled to receive friends one hour prior to the service Monday. Burial will be at a later date in the Masonic Cemetery in Excelsior Springs.


Rose Bleyenberg
Rose Marie Bleyenberg, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008. Ms. Bleyenberg was born May 13, 1927. She retired from General Motors. She was a long time member of St. Therese North Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Frank A. Bleyenberg. Survivors include five children, Connie Davis, Excelsior Springs, Vickie Hamilton, Kansas City, John Bleyenberg, Parkville, Cheri McCullough, Excelsior Springs, and Tracy Roberts, Overland Park, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving companion of six years, Leland Rinehart, Trimble. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at St. Therese North Catholic Church in Parkville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the church. Interment will be in White Chapel Cemetery in Gladstone. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

*Thomas Bumgarner
The Gates of Heaven opened wide on Monday, Jan. 28, to greet Thomas Conrad Bumgarner. Waiting there to greet him were his mother, Mrs. Wave Swancy Bumgarner; his father, Edgar E. Bumgarner; and two of his brothers, Bernerd and Bryan, all of whom preceded him in death. Tom entered the world March 14, 1933. He was one of 14 children and lived in California and Arkansas, as well as Taylorsville, N.C. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 17 and served honorably in the Army, and later also the Air Force for 18 1/2 years. He was of the Catholic faith. Later he drove a transfer truck for 10 years where he traveled across the country. In 1981 Tom came back to North Carolina to care for his mother. He was a collector of anything wolf-related and loved nature. He was a fan of Willie Nelson and his music. Some believed he had a likeness to Willie, although he always said that Willie resembled him since Willie was younger. He leaves behind one daughter, Denise Bumgarner Mays, and son-in-law, Mike, of Taylorsville, N.C.; two granddaughters, Courtney Elizabeth Mays, Carlsbad, Calif., and Lauren Ann Mays, Boone, N.C.; three stepchildren, Kay McNeel and husband, Bill, of Carlsbad, Calif., Tony Southwick and wife, Lana, of Liberty, Mo.,. And Dr. Ken Southwick and wife, Suzette, of Belton, Mo. He also leaves behind seven sisters and four brothers, Josephine Watts, Taylorsville, N.C., Bobby King, Statesville, N.C., Bill Bumgarner, Bell, Calif., Relda Hameline, Statesville, N.C., Betty Howei and husband, Frank, Murrells Inlet, S.C., Bud Bumgarner and wife, Dean, Boomer, N.C., Connie Campbell and husband, Bobby, of Statesville, N.C., Delmer Bumgarner and wife, Helen, of Chania Crete, Greece, Martha Wall and husband, Wayne, of Statesville, N.C., and Gracie Brown and husband, J.L., and Jim Bumgarner and wife, Mildred, all of Taylorsville, N.C. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and special friends Danny Eller and Sue Price of Wilksboro, N.C. A special thank you to Dr. Robert Mauldin and Catawba Radiology, and Heather Elliott, Linda Craig and Tonya Roland of Alexander County Hospice for their gentle kindness and care. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Adams Funeral Home in Taylorsville, N.C., with the Rev. James Byer officiating. Burial with military rites by DAV Chapter #84 will take place in Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home. Shirley Burch
Shirley A. Burch, 66, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008. Survivors include her husband, David; four sons, Kevin Elliott, Brian Burch, Doug Burch, and James Burch; three daughters, Alicia Hill, Michelle Taylor, and Joni Burch; four brothers; two sisters; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs; burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Friends were invited to call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the funeral home.

John Camper
John Camper, 64, Liberty, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at his home. Mr. Camper was born Sept. 2, 1943, in Wilmington, Del., the son of Randolph and Sara Lightbourne Camper. He lived in Syracuse, N.Y., Honey Brook, Penn., and Racine, Wisc., before he moved to Kansas City in 1958. He was married to Dianna Brink on Sept. 10, 1963. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 42 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kearney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Dianna Camper, of the home; two sons, Joe Camper, Kearney, and Jerreme Camper, Independence, Kan.; two daughters, Dana Barton, Cameron, and Jill Camper, Kansas City; two sisters, Priscilla DiCarlo, Bellevue, Wash., and Julie Hollenbeck, Racine, Wisc.; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 202 W. 19th St., Kearney; burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kearney. Friends called from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association or Liberty Hospital Hospice.

Warren Case
Warren O. Case, 84, Gladstone, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Shirkey Nursing Home in Richmond, Mo. Mr. Case was a retired transport driver for Woods Industries. He was an Elder for the South Crysler Restoration Branch. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Oscar and Alta Case; and two sons, Dale W. Case and James I. Case. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Virginia (Nadine) Case, of the home; one daughter, Nancy Nolker, and her husband, Jim, Richmond; one daughter-in-law, Kay Case, Cameron; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at McGilley Antioch Chapel in Kansas City; burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation was held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at the funeral home, where a Masonic service was held at 4:30 p.m.

Donna Sue Clark
Donna Sue Clark, 39, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008. Mrs. Clark was born March 21, 1968, in Kansas City, the daughter of Donald Cochran and Linda Whitmore Dawley. She grew up in Osceola and spent most of her adult life in Excelsior Springs. She was married to Chuck Clark in May 1990. She was employed by the Liberty Public School District in the maintenance and custodial department. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband, Chuck Clark, of the home; a son, Jeff Cochran, Excelsior Springs; a daughter, Ashley Clark, of the home; her mother and stepfather, Linda and Fred Dawley, Marshall; a sister, Tracy Jones, Osceola; her stepmother, Karen Cochran, Richmond; her maternal grandparents, Sherman and Helen Whitmore, Bogart, Mo.; and a soon-to-be-born grandson, Rodney Cochran. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Bross & Spidle Chapel in Excelsior Springs. Friends were invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the funeral chapel. Cremation, with private interment at a later date.

*Robert Davenport
Robert H. Davenport Sr., Moreno Valley, Calif. (formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.) left this life for his Heavenly home he so much looked forward to on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008. He was 86 years of age. Born to William And Allie Davenport on July 25, 1921, in Brailey, Mo., he was one of 15 children. He married the love of his life, Evelyn B. Wiseman, in December 1941 at Canton, Mo. They enjoyed a long, loving and wonderful life together for 56 years. Evelyn went on to her Heavenly home in September 1997. Robert (Bob to most who knew him) had a quiet personable character and an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ that led him through his long and remarkable life. No one was a stranger to him; he was a man of few faults and many, many strengths that became an anchor point and inspiration to so many that knew him. He had been a resident of Moreno Valley for the last eight years, a member of New Life Christian Fellowship church in Moreno Valley and a longtime resident of Riverside since 1959. Robert had a long and satisfying career in the sheet metal/heating and air conditioning trade and later, after retirement, as a volunteer chaplain for numerous hospitals in the Kansas City/Excelsior Springs area. Caring and ministering to those suffering and in spiritual need was his passion. It was the part of his life he was so very much suited for and capable of doing for all the many people that came into his life. Robert is survived by two sons, Robert H. Davenport, Jr. (daughter-in-law Wilma), Riverside, and Terry Davenport, Moreno Valley; granddaughters, Diana Belcher, Licking, Mo., and Sherri Rankin, Marysville, Calif.; sisters, Roberta O’Dell and Zannie Davenport, both of Excelsior Springs, and Doris Butts, League City, Texas; and many many nieces, nephews and longtime friends, all of whom he cherished greatly. Robert and his caring spirit will be greatly missed by us all. Funeral sevices will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, with visitation following at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the Durham Cemetery in Durham, Mo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled Veterans.

Florence Elder
Florence Elder, 100, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008. Ms. Elder was born Jan. 12, 1908, in Macon, the daughter of George Thomas and Emily Washington Kitchen. She became a lifelong resident of Excelsior Springs, where she was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Elder, and her brothers and sisters. Survivors include seven great-nieces and -nephews. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Bross & Spidle Chapel in Excelsior Springs; burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Friends were invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel.

Geraldene Elgin
Geraldene Elgin, 85, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Valley Manor and Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs. Geraldene was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of Howard W. and Nelle E. Keith. She was employed by the Gates Rubber Co. and the McCleary Clinic. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, James Creason; and two brothers, Cecil and Francis Keith. Survivors include one daughter, Donna Creason, Excelsior Springs; one granddaughter, Amy Shelor; and two great-grandchildren, Mason and Payton Shelor. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

Larry Embley Sr.
Larry Eugene Embley, Sr., 65, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Mr. Embley was born Dec. 23, 1942, in Kansas City, the son of Elbert F. and Betty (Dutcher) Dodson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include three daughters, Laura Feebeck, La Cygne, Kan., Tina M. Bridges, and Shelly A. Embley, Holt; two sons, Larry E. Embley Jr., Olathe, Kan., and Garry D. Embley Sr., Excelsior Springs; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Buffalo Cemetery in Buffalo, Kan. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

John Ervin
John W. Ervin, 90, Liberty, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Liberty Hospital. Mr. Ervin was born March 26, 1917, in Kearney, the son of John and Lettie May Perrin Ervin. He worked for 35 years at Ford Motor Company before he retired in 1976. He served on the Kearney Zoning Board, the Kearney Board of Adjustments and the Kearney Board of Aldermen, and was mayor of Kearney in the late 1960s. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Kearney. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine, in 1987; a sister, Gladys Hoskins; and a brother, Allen Stanley Ervin. Survivors include his wife, Frances; two sons, Glenn Ervin, Blue Springs, and John Norton Ervin, Denver, Mo.; two daughters, Willena Downhour, Kansas City, and Donna Bycraft, Roeland Park, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Kearney First Baptist Church; interment in Fairview Cemetery in Kearney. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the church. Arrangements are through Fry-Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Kearney. Darrell Galloway
Darrell B. Galloway, 64, Kearney, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home in Kansas City. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop 376, Liberty, Mo.

“Bill” Garber
William M. “Bill” Garber, 78, Liberty, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at Liberty Hospital. Mr. Garber was a retired mechanic for Trans World Airlines. He was a member of Park Hill Christian Church in Parkville. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Garber, of the home; one son, Billy B. Garber, Kansas City; one daughter, Rebecca D. Imokhome, Kansas City, Kan.; five brothers; five sisters; and four grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles. Interment will take place in Bethel Cemetery near Versailles. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Elsie Green
Elsie Clara Green, 82, Knob Noster, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at the Carmel Hills Living Center in Independence, Mo. Ms. Green was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Mildred, Mont., the daughter of Alvie and Bertha (Heinz) Wheeler. She was married to Ralph L. Green in 1941. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; brothers, Bob Wheeler and Lloyd Wheeler; sister, Margaret Dougherty; and stillborn son, Mark David Green. Survivors include her daughter, Sherrell Green, Independence; two sons, Bryon Green, Kansas City, and Allen Green, Warrensburg; brother, Montey Wheeler, Billings, Mont.; sisters, Jessie Nigg, Faye Mason, Mildred Ayers, Sharon Monarko, and Eva Busby, all of Montana; and two grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, also at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Burial will take place at Old Union Cemetery in Lawson.

Harriett Hall
Harriett Ann (Skelton) Hall, 73, Richmond, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m., at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lexington. Memorial contributions may be made to Lexington Memorial Park Cemetery or Ray County Hospice.

Martha C. Hall
Martha Christine Hall, 99, of Excelsior Springs, Mo. (formerly of Lathrop, Mo.), died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Hall was born Sept. 9, 1908, the daughter of Steve and Myrtle (Warren) Morse. She was a retired seamstress. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Liberty. She was married to Hugh Hall, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Kirby. Survivors include several cousins, including Bud and Pat Lamb, Excelsior Springs, and Mirlene Sharp, Kearney; and a very good friend, Ellen Craven. Graveside services were set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Lathrop Cemetery in Lathrop, Mo. Friends were invited to call after 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to The Missouri School for the Deaf, 505 E. Fifth St., Fulton, Mo. 65251; Good Shepherd Hospice, 7611 State Line Rd. #200, Kansas City, Mo. 64114; or a charity of the donor’s choice.

*Carl Harper
Carl Harper, 81, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo. Carl was born May 8, 1926, in Alton, Mo., to George and Velma Harper. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Carl’s career was spent in sales. He garnered many awards for his outstanding ability to make lifelong friends of many of his repeat customers. Whether customers, family, or friends, all connected instantly and trusted deeply his honesty and integrity. Carl had a great love for his family, farming, and horses. Having won numerous awards for his Hackney ponies and Tennessee Walking horses, he encouraged his children and grandchildren to excel in horsemanship, as well. Besides work, family, and friends, seven days a week he was in the hay field, spending a warm night at a horse show, mowing on a hot summer day, or enjoying a night of supper with the family. Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father; daughter, Shelly Harper; grandson, Steve Kibby; granddaughter, Emily Harper and great-granddaughter, Cyanna Harris. Survivors include his wife, Lou Harper; sister, Ruth Robinson; brother, J.B. Harper; children, Merlene (John) Tucker, Cecelia (Larry) Blackwell, Ray Keech, Carl (Becinda) Harper, Jr, Karen (Jeff) Rullman, Steve (Cindy) Keech, Cliff (Cindy) Harper, Rena (Steve) Galloway and Carlene Gray; 29 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Mt. Moriah Terrace Park, with services following at 3 p.m. Interment following. Contributions in Carl’s name may be made to Lou Harper for the purchase of a memorial bench and may be sent to Mt. Moriah Terrace Park, 801 NW 108th St., Kansas City, Mo. 64155.

Robert Hartman Sr.
Robert W. Hartman Sr., 72, Lawson, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at Lawson Manor. Mr. Hartman was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Lawson, the son of Theodore and Edna (Green) Hartman. He was married to Charlotte M. Melling on June 15, 1958; she survives of the home. He had farmed and was a dairyman for years. He also worked for Atkins Implement and later worked for Precise Technology for 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church and had also attended Canaan Hill Church of the Nazarene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Angela Mae Hartman, who died at birth. In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Wayne Hartman Jr., Lawson; a daughter, Vikki L. (Hartman) Newman, Lawson; five grandchildren; and other relatives. Funeral services were scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Canaan Hill Church of the Nazarene in Lawson. Burial in Lawson Cemetery. The body lay in state after noon Thursday at the Polley Funeral Home in Lawson, where the family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Jarvis Sextuplets
Memorial services for Chance, Spencer, Hannah, Georgia, Grant and Gracie Jarvis of Excelsior Springs, Mo., will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Liberty Christian Fellowship, 1815 W. Liberty Dr., Liberty, Mo. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., following the memorial service. Richard Jones
Richard G. Jones, 89, Holt, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, in an auto accident in Kearney, Mo. Mr. Jones was born April 24, 1918, in Nanticoke, Pa., the son of David and Emma Richards Jones. He was married to Jean Mackie on Nov. 13, 1948. He was a sales representative for American Brass Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Jones, in September 2006; a sister, Betty; and a brother, Bob. Survivors include a daughter, Wendy Hord, Holt; a son, Glenn Jones, Alabama; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at VFW Post #5717 in Kearney. Friends may call there from 6 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday. Nancy Liddle
Nancy Carol Liddle, 69, Warsaw, Mo. (formerly of Blue Springs, Mo.), died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at KU Medical Center. Ms. Liddle was born Feb. 4, 1938, the daughter of Clarence and Lillian (Cockrum) Aldred. She and her husband, Dody, owned and operated Liddle Sport Shop for many years. She was also a clerk at the Jones Store, retiring in 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dody Liddle; her father, Clarence Aldred; and a grandson, Blake Liddle. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Porter, Kearney; son, Todd Liddle, Blue Springs; mother, Lillian Aldred, Springfield and Kearney; brother, John Aldred, Springfield; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Visitation was scheduled for 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs, where funeral services were set to begin at 11 a.m. Burial in Blue Springs Cemetery. Rollin Lightfield
Rollin LeRoy Lightfield, 71, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Mr. Lightfield was born May 11, 1936, in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Roy and Lillian Ames Lightfield. He was married to Belma Jane Thorne in 1958. After earning an LPN degree in 1966, he worked for a short time as a nurse, then turned to driving a truck for several years until his early retirement in 1977 for health reasons. He and Jane lived in Eldora until they retired to Missouri in 1992. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane. Survivors include his children, Toni Sorensen and Toby Lightfield, both of Polo, Mo., and Tami Goligoski, Richmond, Mo.; five granddaughters, Cassie Sorensen, Jennie Sorenson, Kaylee Sorensen, Abby Lightfield, Brett Goligoski, and many other relatives and friends. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, with military honors. Cremation. No public visitation is planned. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Richmond.

Marta Love
Marta Love, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at the Lawson Manor and Rehabilitation Center in Lawson, Mo. Ms. Love was born in El Salvador, the daughter of Carmen and Juan Ruiz-Torres, and immigrated to this country at the age of 18. She met and married Kenneth Love and relocated to the midwest in 1955. She had lived and worked in Excelsior Springs for many years, employed by the Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center and the local library. She had also lived in Columbia, Lincoln, Neb., Sedalia, Kansas City and Liberty, and had worked as an insurance broker. Survivors include three daughters, Frances Powers, Excelsior Springs, Karen Epp, Raytown, and Marta Love, Suffolk, Va.; and nine grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Excelsior Springs, with visitation at 10 a.m. and a Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

Leroy Means
Leroy Means, 90, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008. Mr. Means was born April 25, 1917, in Mosby, the son of Adam and Ola Rhodus Means. He owned and operated a service station. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Edna, of the home; son, John Means, Kearney; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters. Graveside services were held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Means Cemetery in rural Liberty. Friends called Wednesday at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.


Tina Nevels
Tina Darlene Nevels, 52, Odessa, Mo. (formerly of Lexington, Mo.), died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Nevels was born Oct. 30, 1955, in Prescott, Ariz., the daughter of Robert A. and Betty Derrossett Martin. She was married to Danny Nevels on May 28, 1985. She worked for Aquila for 28 years in customer service. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert A. Martin. Survivors include her husband, Danny Nevels, of the home; her mother, Betty Martin, Bolivar; three children, Velvet Martin, Orrick, Shel Nevels, Joplin, and Karmen Vanderpool, Indianola, Iowa; a brother, Robert Martin, Kansas City, Kan.; her stepmother, Marlene Martin, Sun City, Ariz.; a stepbrother, Randy Bost, Peoria, Ill.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington. Visitation will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Bertha F. O’Dell, 94, Richmond, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008. Judson Palmer Sr.
Judson L. Palmer Sr., Liberty, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Mo. Mr. Palmer opened Palmer and Davidson Law Office in North Kansas City, and later worked for Kansas City Title Insurance Company before retiring from Chicago Title Insurance Company as regional vice president in the early 1980s. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Liberty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Simrall Palmer, in 2002; and a son, Judson L. Palmer Jr., in 2006. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Grundy, Liberty; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Cremation. Laura Peters
Marjory L. Williams, 74, Oklahoma City, Okla. (formerly of Excelsior Springs, Mo.), died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City. Ms. Williams was born Nov. 6, 1933, in Kearney, Mo., the daughter of Lloyd Rae and Hazel Irene (Poulson) Leach. She was married to Junior Andrew Williams on July 29, 1950; he preceded her in death on March 22, 1998. She was a member of the Pisgah Baptist church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, James Wayne Williams; three brothers; and one sister. Survivors include two sons, Randy Williams and Lloyd Williams, both of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; one daughter, Donna Moore, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, James Leach and David Leach, both of Boise, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs; burial in the Old New Garden Cemetery in Excelsior Springs. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at the funeral home.

Jim Pfeifer
James Lee “Jim” Pfeifer, 58, Liberty, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Liberty Hospital. Mr. Pfeifer was born July 13, 1949, in Macon, the son of Howard Franklin and Verna C. Meyer Pfeifer. He was a police officer with the Kansas City Police Department for 17 years, retiring in 1996, and from 1999 until the time of his death he was owner and operator of KMA Heating and Cooling Co. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, James Jr.; and a brother, George Pfeifer. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Mary Ann Sissom Pfeifer, of the home; three daughters, Katherine S. Pfeifer, Marija R. “Maggie” Pfeifer, and Anna M. Pfeifer, all of Liberty; two brothers, Marvin Pfeifer, Bevier, and Thomas Pfeifer, Macon; and two grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at St. James Catholic Church in Liberty; burial in New Hope Cemetery in Liberty. Richard Pigoni
Richard Frank Pigoni, 62, Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at his home. Mr. Pigoni was born April 21, 1945, in Kenosha, Wisc., the son of Geno and Elizabeth (Paulmann) Pigoni. On Sept. 17, 1966, he was married to his wife of more than 41 years, Ruth (Waldron) Pigoni. He had worked as a chemical engineer for Proctor & Gamble. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Excelsior Springs. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Pigoni, of the home; daughters, Suzanne Toms, Liberty, and Kara Pagoni, of the home; son, Robert Pigoni, LaMesa, Calif.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the Church of the Nazarene in Excelsior Springs. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the church. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Arrangements are through Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs.

Harold Pollard
Harold Dean Pollard, 70, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008. Mr. Pollard is survived by one son, Michael Pollard, his wife, Kelly Pollard, and their two children, Ashley and Troy Majors; one daughter, Michelle Swierski, her husband, Ken Swierski, and their three children, Heather, Hannah and Hayden; and four brothers, Bill, Don, Art, and Ronald Pollard and their families. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Pitts Funeral Home, 207 E. 4th Street, Braymer. Burial will immediately follow in the Cowgill Cemetery. Dean was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle and will be missed, but never forgotten, by all his family, friends and everyone who knew him. “We love you Dad. M & M.”

Muriel Quigley
Muriel Elizabeth Quigley, 94, Excelsior Springs, Mo., passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center. Ms. Quigley was born Dec. 17, 1913. She was a member of the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Lawson, Mo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Lawrence Eugene Quigley. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Paulsell and husband, David, of Kansas City, Mo.; and two granddaughters, Christina Geabhart and husband, Shawn, and Melissa Diack and husband, Ibrahima. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Polley Funeral Home in Lawson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center Van Fund.

Ann Marie Shannon
Ann Marie Shannon, Ph.D., 78, Liberty, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at her home. Dr. Shannon, the daughter of Anne Sanford Woods and William Frank Woods, was a distinguished service professor of English emerita at William Jewell College in Liberty. She was married to David Patric Shannon on Aug. 9, 1961; he preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at Grace Episcopal Church in Liberty, with The Very Reverend Susan McCann officiating. A reception will follow, but there is no formal visitation. Her ashes will be interred with those of her husband in the columbarium of the church.

Jerry Lynn Sorensen, 54, Polo, Mo., passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Excelsior Springs Medical Center in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Jerry was born July 21, 1953, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to George and Dorothy (De Lawyer) Sorensen. He married Toni Lightfield on Aug. 30, 1986. They resided in Union, Iowa and had three children. He worked as a machine operator for many years at Dayco Industries in Eldora, Iowa. They moved to Polo, Mo., in 1998. He worked as a tire and lube technician at Wal-Mart in Excelsior Springs, Mo., for several years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; several aunts and uncles; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law. Survivors include his wife, Toni, of the home; his three daughters, Cassie, Jennie, and Kaylie, all of the home; his parents, George and Dorothy Sorensen, Union, Iowa; three sisters, Nancy Frerichs, Peg Fulton, and Pat Spicer, all of Marshalltown, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Bailey & Cox Family Funeral Service in Polo, Mo.

Elmer Swafford Sr.
Elmer Lee Swafford Sr., 88, Liberty, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008. Visitation was scheduled for 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Church-Archer-Pasley Funeral Home in Liberty. Ian Lee Thomas, 33, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008. “Tina” Tucker
Imatene “Tina” Tucker, former member of the Clay County Election Board, died. Ms. Tucker moved to Kansas City in 1968 and became very involved with the Clay County Republicans. In the early 1970s, she began working for Tom Coleman, serving in his congressional district office until 1992. In 1994, she ran for the Sixth District Congressional seat. She retired from the Clay County Election Board in 2006. Survivors include numerous family members. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Winnwood Baptist Church in Kansas City. Richard Weber
Richard Otto Weber, 77, a lifelong resident of Kearney, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at his home. Mr. Weber was born Oct. 27, 1930, in Arley, the son of Henry C. and Willie G. (Brown) Weber. His mother died when he was nine months old, and he and his father went to live with his paternal grandmother. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Hattie Lee Reynolds, on Nov. 5, 1950. They started Weber Real Estate and Insurance in Kearney in 1959. He served in a number of charitable, civic and community roles, including as president of the Kearney Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Kearney City Council. After 47 years as owners of Weber Real Estate, the Webers sold the business in 2004. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Hattie Weber; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Danny Lawhun, Baton Rouge, La.; daughter, Leesa Weber Saunders, Kearney; and three grandsons, Tommy Saunders, Thomas Lawhun, and Jonathan Lawhun. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at Kearney First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the church. Burial will take place in the Arley United Methodist Church Cemetery.
