Shawnee team wins BBQ on the River
In a hard-fought battle, Holy Smoke BBQ of Shawnee, Kan., emerged as the victor in this weekend’s BBQ and Fly-In on the River.
With 72 teams officially in the competition, it was a victory worth claiming, but it could have ended in another way. A point here or there would have made all the difference, seeing as how the top three finishers were within a point and a half of one another and nine of the top 10 were within a five-point range.

The commercial development known as the Vintage Plaza has been in the midst of preparations for several businesses, including a movie theater, restaurant and retail space. But since they first began clearing the property, located on the north side of U.S. 69 near McCleary Road, residential neighbors to the north have complained about erosion and sedimentation caused by runoff from the construction work.
