PRIDE kicks off with After Hours
The biggest PRIDE After Hours crowd in recent years turned out Tuesday night to help kick off PRIDE season in Excelsior Springs.
The two-hour reception at the Elms Resort & Spa had more than 100 in attendance. Catered by the Culinary Arts class at the Excelsior Springs Job Corps Center and featuring door prizes and giveaways --including advertising in the Excelsior Springs Standard and Town & Country Leader for a handful of lucky PRIDE sponsors -- the event was a resounding success.

Three face charges in weekend arson
Three men have been charged with setting a fire that caused tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage to city property over the weekend. Samuel A. Monteleone, 18, Austin L. All three list their most recent addresses as the 700 block of St. Louis Avenue; they are currently incarcerated on a bond of $200,000 each.

Only one school project remaining
When local students returned to their schools Thursday morning, they saw the results of construction projects that were begun before school even started last year.
Improvements, funded by a bond issue approved by voters in 2007, were made at every school in the Excelsior Springs School District. And according to school administrator John Lacy and Rich O'Brien of Jenkins & Associates, the only project that remains unfinished is the new gymnasium at Elkhorn Elementary School.

Voters pick Ebenroth, Fousek, Nance
Excelsior Springs voters will see some familiar faces when they visit the ballot box in November, as three local residents earned spots on the general election ballot in Tuesday's primary.
Republican Bob Nance, seeking his third term in the 36th District seat of the Missouri House of Representatives, was unopposed in the primary. He received a total of 958 votes -- 403 from Clay County voters and 555 from Ray County -- but as it was an uncontested race, turnout is likely to be somewhat higher in the November election.
