Council OKs engineering for shelter
A new animal shelter came one step closer to reality Monday night, as the Excelsior Springs City Council endorsed a recommendation to fund engineering services for the new facility.
The Excelsior Springs Capital Improvements Authority had originally set aside $15,000 for a needs assessment for the building, but city staff decided they knew what they needed and that money could be better spent toward engineering. The authority agreed, adding another $25,000 to the amount to bring the total to a maximum of $40,000.

WWI footlocker transforms into Lodwick tribute
The idiom “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” is evident in the display currently visible in the storefront window of Cabinets, Vanities and More, owned by Don Collins. Collins made his find one Wednesday, when he met Dave Lodwick outside the city dump.
“I saw that he (Dave Lodwick) was carrying a box.” After explaining how he had to make the tough decision to get rid of the box, Collins offered to take it off his hands. Collins restores and sells furniture at his store on Broadway.
