Two new historic districts proposed
The residents of two proposed new historic districts have mixed feelings about the benefits—and disadvantages—of living in such a designated neighborhood.
A few of them voiced their concerns during a public meeting Wednesday evening. Hospital board preparing for future of health care
The Excelsior Springs Hospital Board of Trustees learned Monday what will be required of them as health care moves forward into the electronic age.
A 23-point “meaningful use matrix” was explained by hospital employee Ann Hester as a form that must be completed by nurses upon a patient’s first hospital visit; however, Hester and hospital CEO Sally Nance explained that after the initial visit, the information goes to a “clearinghouse” where other hospitals can access it and update it as necessary.

School year to end on May 28
The Excelsior Springs Board of Education voted 7-0 Monday night to make up five of the six days missed due to weather this winter.
The school calendar has 175 days built in, instead of the required 174. Superintendent of Schools Jim Horton said making up the sixth day would require students to return to class for a single day after Memorial Day, and he felt that was not feasible.
