Father, son caught red-handed in pharmacy heist
Police caught a father and son apparently in the act of burglarizing an Excelsior Springs pharmacy last Saturday evening.
Harold Jason Lester, 40, Excelsior Springs, and his 16-year-old son were arrested for burglary, stealing and possession of controlled substances. The son was not identified by name, as he is a minor.

Tax abatement OK'd for manufacturer
A new manufacturer will be taking up residence in the former DeNovus/Orbseal building this summer, and for 20 years EXT Inc. will have a tax abatement approved Monday night by the Excelsior Springs City Council.
The council met in a special session Monday night to hear a presentation by city attorney John McClelland and EXT representative Christian Mann, who is moving the extruded plastics plant from the Lenexa, Kan., location where it has operated for more than 30 years to 1324 Kearney Rd., known to many locals as the old Whitaker Cable building.

Cast picked for '42nd Street'
The Excelsior Springs Kiwanis Club has chosen the cast for its sixth annual musical production. This year’s performance will be the Broadway musical, “42nd Street.” Auditions in three communities last month brought out some great new talent alongside past Kiwanis performers.
"This is a different performance than we have ever done before," said Director Tanya Duncan of the extensive choreography, costuming, and dance elements of the musical. "How wonderful it is to work with so many new faces .… it is heartwarming to see the talented performers who return to work with us year after year."
